I think my skill level is around 1650-1750, but recently went on a streak losing 200 ELO in 3 days. Literally, 80% of these games I could not win. Afkers, massive feeding, intentional feeding, trolling, etc, I've seen it all. I'm by no means incredible at this game, but most of the time I perform my role well.
The best example is a game were within 15 minutes I was 8-0-5 with Sion. I killed the enemy jungler several times, dominated my lane, and dropped in on mid lane, but 3 of my team members were so ridiculously weak players that we would lose every single team fight, they'd literally die without doing anything meaningful.
The point of my post is mostly to rant so I feel better, because I am definitely pretty disillusioned at this point, but also to ask: What the hell can I do. No carry seems to work, I cannot win a literal 2v5, 3v5, which most of my games are. I've tried Pantheon, Corki, Sion, and Warwick. I'd say I'm quite good at Sion and Warwick, while being above average with the others, but it just doesn't matter how well I do my role, the team will fall short. It's just so damn frustrating. Ughahaahahgcgfgfherrrrrgggggggggggg.
Take a break when you start a losing streak / a retard team streak is my advice. Also get mejais if you know you are going to get fed on a AP carry.

BTW - Anyone saw Jiji's stream atm? God, this game was SO amazing. They lost mid inhi and most towers while enemies had only outer towers down and took like 2 barons? And yet Jiji won his team the game, he was like 17/3 while every other player in his team was negative. Does this guy complain about elo hell? No, he carries his bad teammates

It's a mix. I've had games where a teammate gets raged and intentionally feeds and/or quits. Just last night we had a veigar instant-lock in as veigar despite our team already having mostly AP champs. He fed bot 0-3 and then quit. Pretty lame.
But I've also had games where someone on the enemy team rages/quits. Free win.
And I've had games where I'm clearly the weakest link on the team. All those guys at 2k ELO have clearly done something right to get there in the first place.

Yep. Jiji lost ALL their towers... but they still won O_O

Last night I had a Kass, Zilean, Pantheon, Rammus, Renekton game where I (panth, durr) would have to try to 1v2 Janna and MF every fight while the other 4 would somehow still lose to Xin/Nasus/Sion in a 4v3 @_@. 0 Zil ults all game, no one else going for MF/Janna... There was really nothing more I could do... Kass spent the whole game running from Xin because he needed to protect his SS stacks. SIGH. Thank god I can always count on Turkey to troll with me to blow off steam.

So russians finally starts appearing at about 1300 ELO champ select: "me gang / trynd"
other russian last picks morde and goes bot with ezreal
first pick sivir goes 0/6 within 6 minutes of the game and bot lane dies early aswell.
Trynd and Morde continues to spam random jibberish in russian, sell all their gear and go afk / plant wards all across the map at about the 12min mark. Second pick ezreal goes afk on and off and reaches level 7 25 minutes into the game.
I guess you "deserve your ELO" right? If you can't carry your team hard enough you cant raise ELO.
Its true I guess, but isn't that statement given with the asumption that your team doesn't go afk?
... ELO heaven baby, ELO heaven
There's nothing worse than people who press the play button and then continues to troll the shit out of people.. I wish there was like active moderation of LoL where they can ban people, disqualify the game, right as shit happens sort of like GMs in WoW.

That statement also assumes that you will get those games from the enemy side as well, unless you have some strange luck of being able to attract ragers and those who'd go afk, in which case I offer my condolences.

With regard to carrying baddies in solo queue, are support champs as bad for it as people say? I know that later on your presence in teamfights will be comparatively small compared to a carry, but it seems that early-game, you can exert a map-wide presence the same way a jungler can. I mean, a jungler is good for solo queue because you can help contain your teammates' failing all across the map by taking buffs/objectives and ganking for them, rather than being stuck in a lane watching people feed on the other side of the map.
It seems like if you're roaming properly as a support champ (which admittedly lots of people don't do enough--ppl love to afk in the duo lane), you can do the same thing--ward the river/jungle, gank sidelanes, cover while people buy, etc.

had just as bad, had a warwick who died to golem at level 1 3 times then decided to just feed 15 times before leaving, as well as a kassadin mid who died to their katarina 4 times and was 4 levels under her
we still won

Uhm i didn't say anything like that. I absolutely agree with what you said, you can't judge someone's skill by a single event. This doesn't change the fact that you CAN'T say "I think my skill level is 1750 elo but i'm stuck playing with retards"... If your skill level IS 1750 elo you will get there, you know why? Because the more games you play the lesser the influence of luck is on your elo.

Soloq is a lot like poker in that it can be really streaky, but long term you will roughly end up where you are supposed to be. I got a huge streak of really useless rager/intentional feeder/troll/afk teams and lost 300 elo, but then Numbers told me to man the fuck up and start carrying.
So I manned the fuck up and started carrying. Got 100 of my elo back, not slowing down. Quit QQing and play better, it'll work out in the end.

Elo is fine, it might not ALWAYS be correct but it's a good measure of how many games you've won vs how many games you've lost, which I find to be a decent indicator of skill in general.

why do we keep revolving around this topic, i hate it so much, both the qq'ers and the condescending types who tell the qq'ers to stfu.
