Does anyone else feel that it is a bit exaggerated to think of this as an announcement? They changed the name and Carbot made a 1:40 min. video and that is basicly it. There is no new information at all.

Well it actually worked, no? We have 20 pages right now, everybody will watch the actual gameplay footage from blizzcon now i guess..

Well, it is a teaser. We also have no idea how much the game has changed since they last showed it. The only thing I know is that it has some interesting mechanics that make it really different from other moba's on the market with the exception of maybe Smite and Awesomenauts.

While Blizzard didn't do anything, how did you arrive at the conclusion that Blizzard thought the idea was stupid? Or are you just trying to stomp Blizzard down a bit?
Blizzard also didn't think much of it because Turret Defense, Lurker Defense, and bad RPG maps like Day in School and DBZ were so much more popular than Aeon of Strife.
Defense of the Ancients in Warcraft3 was eventually the game that got big, but at that point Warcraft 3 was also going big as an esport with Blizzard hedging its bets on Warcraft 3 tournaments and not custom games.
By the time Blizzard realized what it was sitting on, the rights were bought up and Dota2 was developed along with the release of LoL and HoN.
So no, Blizzard didn't try to cash-in on a niche custom map when they thought the future of gaming was Boxer and Grubby and not the UMS map system they had created.
But much like the grand majority of global esports, it always seems to tie back to Blizzard.

No, it didn't work. Having 20 pages of mostly negative comments is the opposite of hype. It only drew attention because it's Blizzard not some random company.

I dunno mang, I'm considerably more hyped for this game than I was at any time in the previous year.
Sounds to me like they did their job. You vocal doom-criers aren't the majority, don't interpret the amount of blizzard bashing you're seeing in this thread as any indication of the reaction that the video has garnered from anyone but those vocal in a single TL thread. The video's got 345,619 views, and a vastly higher number of thumbs ups than thumbs downs. If nothing else that alone shows that the posters in this thread are a tiny number of people who have watched the video.

This trailer is really good. Cabot made such improvement from the begining. It's smooth and colorfull. As for the game i like people bashing saying stuff etc... we don't know nothing about it. They could have change direction from blizzard all stars... We don't know.
Wait and see people.. No need to go "is this a joke ?", "this will be a bad game", "they are late" etc...

Well... using carbot who might be the most popular cartoon animator on the gaming community (at least starcraft's... Which is a blizzard game) i think their marketing are kind of genius...

Of course it didn't... If Carbot's heart of the swarm opening was realised before the hots intro cynematic it would have been the same thing... Maybe they thought that it would be nice to have the carbot one before it ?

Hearthstone? WTF IS THIS CRAP D3 expansion? GOING TO SUCK
Anything that Blizzard does is wrong in the eyes of people, even though their games are consistently well above the average game, then polished beyond that even. People here hate Blizzard, then go off and play and enjoy Blizzard games. It is the nastiest of bandwagons.

Most of the negativity stems from the name as well as the fact that its taking so long to develop. The video was entertaining despite the fact that its announcing a change in name that many people, including me, find much, much worse.

People seem to forget how much the DotA genre owes to blizzard. Without wc3 there would be no LoL or DotA. Aeon of strife also goes way back so please don't come in and say Dota started it all.
LoL is derived from Dota Allstars which is derived from Dota by Eul on the wc3 platform, the idea of which is derived from AoS which was a new-style funky BW custom map. So who wants to claim ownership?

So what i learned from this thread is that people chose and play games for their names... So if the name of the game is not good they don't like / won't buy it...
Interesting mentality.
It's a legitimate question (really) : "Do you care of the name of the game that you are playing ?"

I was going to bring this up too.
They're all bitching about the acronym of the name (in this case it's a word, so acronym fits). It's the same as another acronym, so obviously it's bad.
Personally, I think everyone that thinks it having the same acronym as another game's (expansion mind you, we can just as easily call hots sc2 because it is sc2 and wol is kind of irrelevant) acronym is stupid is nitpicking to the point of ridiculousness. They're totally different styles of games, and it's only a matter of time before we're not playine heart of the swarm anymore. Honestly, it's like nobody's happy unless they can be angry about some pointless detail.

nah, u're being too critical.
"The marketing team" can only work with what they are permitted to show. Pardo stated several times they've been revealing details of their "games in progress" too early in the development cycle. For example, SC2 was announced in May 2007. Blizzard is keeping the detailed game play hidden longer than they have in the past.
