Michael Jackson has died at age 50 after being rushed to UCLA Medical Center, NBC News has confirmed.
Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told the L.A. Times that Jackson was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home and CPR was performed.
TMZ.com reported that he may have suffered cardiac arrest.
Jackson had been due to start a series of comeback concerts in London on July 13 running until March 2010. The singer, whose hits included “Thriller” and “Billie Jean,” had been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months.
The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within minutes of going on sale in March.
His lifetime record sales tally is believed to be around 750 million, which, added to the 13 Grammy Awards he received, makes him one of the most successful entertainers of all time.
He lived as a virtual recluse since his acquittal in 2005 on charges of child molestation.
There were concerns about Jackson’s health in recent years but the promoters of the London shows, AEG Live, said in March that Jackson had passed a 4-1/2 hour physical examination with independent doctors.
A life in music Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, the seventh of nine children. Five Jackson boys — Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael — first performed together at a talent show when Michael was 6. They walked off with first prize and went on to become a best-selling band, The Jackson Five, and then The Jackson 5.
Jackson made his first solo album in 1972, and released “Thriller” in 1982, which became a smash hit that yielded seven top-10 singles. The album sold 21 million copies in the United States and at least 27 million worldwide.
The next year, he unveiled his signature “moonwalk” dance move while performing “Billie Jean” during an NBC special.

In 1994, Jackson married Elvis Presley’s only child, Lisa Marie, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1996. Jackson married Debbie Rowe the same year and had two children, before splitting in 1999. The couple never lived together.
Jackson has three children named Prince Michael I, Paris Michael and Prince Michael II, known for his brief public appearance when his father held him over the railing of a hotel balcony, causing widespread criticism.
We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.
Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.
A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.
Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.
We're told one of the staff members at Jackson's home called 911.
La Toya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.
Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

CNN just updated their article...no confirmation of death but they use the past tense when describing him.
CNN) -- Entertainer Michael Jackson was taken to a hospital on Thursday after suffering cardiac arrest, sources briefed on the situation told CNN. A Los Angeles fire official told CNN that paramedics arrived at Michael Jackson's home after a 911 call.
Paramedics revived Jackson before taking him to the hospital.
Fire Capt. Steve Ruda told CNN a 911 call came in from a west Los Angeles residence at 12:21 p.m.
Ruda said Jackson was treated and transferred to the UCLA Medical Center.
Asked specifics of the patient's condition, the spokesman said he could not discuss them because of federal privacy laws.
The music icon from Gary, Indiana, is known as the "King of Pop."
Jackson is the seventh of nine children in a well-known musical family.
If you look at the feed MOST websites are reporting he is in the hospital, which is VERY ODD, considering that TMZ says.
A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.
Also most websites that are saying he is dead, source TMZ in this fact, so as of now they are the ONLY ones reporting he is dead....be wary guys I'm not sure if TMZ would pull shit like this just to drive traffic but it's a possibility.

More reports are coming in of his death from other sources: most notably LA Times:
[Updated at 3:15 p.m.: Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times.]
[Updated at 2:46 p.m.: Jackson is in a coma and family have are arriving at his bedside, a law enforcement source told The Times.
Jackson was rushed to a hospital this afternoon by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.
Capt. Steve Ruda said paramedics responded to a call at Jackson's home around 12:26 p.m. He was not breathing when they arrived. The parademics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda told The Times.
[Updated at 2:12 p.m.: Paramedics were called to a home on the 100 block of Carolwood Drive off Sunset Boulevard. Jackson rented the Bel Air home for $100,000 a month. It was described as a French chateau estate built in 2002 with seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, 12 fireplaces and a theater.
The home is about 2 1/2 miles, about a six-minute drive, from UCLA Medical Center. An earlier version of this post incorrectly described the time to travel between the home and hospital as two minutes.]
The news comes as Jackson, 50, was attempting a comeback after years of tabloid headlines, most notably his trial and acquittal on child molestation charges.

People saying he is on a respirator and others saying he is dead. Is it possible he technically died (since his heart stopped for X amount of time) and is not actually dead, but revived?

TMZ says that the paramedics were not able to revive him.
and its ridiculous how so many news sources jumped on the conclusion he is dead because of the one site saying so, now some of them are backing from the claim afaik.

CNN news report is now saying: " The music icon from Gary, Indiana, was known as the "King of Pop." Jackson was the seventh of nine children in a well-known musical family. "
So yeah... I guess he's dead. Fuck sites covering Farrah Fawcett dying of anal cancer, MJ is dead!
EDIT: WOW, and just a couple of minutes later, they changed it: "The music icon from Gary, Indiana, is known as the "King of Pop." Jackson is the seventh of nine children in a well-known musical family."

Fox and TMZ can't be trusted anyways. Nothing has been confirmed, but obviously all the rumors don't make it look so good. I think it's interesting this is such a big deal.

Fox wasn't on the list, but TMZ is on Fox, so w/e. Anyways, I don't think CNN or NYT want to update anything until they have verified sources, because TMZ can just quote people anonymously, and make up lies, while CNN + NYT can't do that.
Maybe this is all a publicity stunt and he is pulling a 2pac on us. He will vanish from the public and live a comfortable life, making a couple of million dollars selling best-of albums and releasing songs he had secretly been working on.

Basically your chance of survival is very slim if you have CPR performed on you. CPR is only performed if your heart has stopped and you arent breathing (aka dead).
So definitely not looking good, especially with lots of sites reporting that he is dead.
For some reason...this doesn't even feel real. I mean, him just randomly dieing from cardiac arrest...doesn't really feel as if something like that is possible...I dunno, guess it just hasn't sunk in for me yet.

I actually couldn't care less about him dying. I mean, sure I feel sorry for his family, but now at least all we have is the music he made. He was a freaking maniac, and at least now he can't continue to tarnish his own legacy.

Well, younger ppl will know in future, as the record sales will raise up, 'best of'-albums coming up + radio play and music channels will start playing his hits now.
This is probably best thing that have ever happened to his record label.

With all due respect, I don't think Michael just 'became' a lunatic over the span of a decade. He was always that way; most good musicians seem to be. That's why I said I'm glad that now all we have is his music to enjoy.

Maybe, but it wasn't until later in his career that the lunacy became the everyday topic in the press around the world. People were able to enjoy his music a little more before media saturation made michael jackson about other things.
Granted he was a talented dancer/artist but honestly it's hard to have any respect and compassion for a man that used his children for publicity stunts, had a little ranch where he invited children to come and stay with him (granted the pedophilia was never confirmed but I mean come on =/). He became a psychopath that was a danger to himself and his children (no mention of him dangling his child off of a balcony?).
also don't say I'm to young to have known his music, I grew up listening to his music (my parents have most if not all of his CDs).
michael jackson was never proven to be a pedophile and it was my opinion he was just a confused guy who had a lot of genuine love for other people, and missed out on some stuff in his childhood. so he should be remembered for what we actually know about him, which is his awesome music.
the sad thing is everyone who thinks he is a pedophile has no right to even be talking about it. they absolutely, 100%, have no involvement in his life, know only what they have been told about him, and are only repeating things they have heard. they are just little immature parrots who don't know if there is any truth in what they are saying.
and im not sorry if these words are about you, because you should face it, what i am saying is the truth.

I agree, I had an argument with one friend because of this same thing, people are good for citicizing others without even knowing wtf they are talking about, most people in the world just talk shit because they can.
Fuck. Heard this at a disco, and DJ's played nothing but Jackson for 45 minutes straight. So very sad. RIP, the Mozart of the 20th century has left a legacy worth remembering.
And fuck you CharlieMurphy, it was neither fun nor appropriate.
Wonder if a 2pac " look alike " will go to his funeral?

this. its usually always some little immature 10 year old that doesn't respect good music.
the word "celebrity" has such strong connotations these days. Michael Jackson was a true Celebrity, he was so because he was a master of his art and a master of the media.
Everything you think you know about a celebrity is uncertain, because it is all fed to you through the media, which we know thrives on controversy, shock, emotion, etc. The media is very influential, though not always truthful.
You can easily verify this by noticing how many complete strangers to Michael Jackson are ranting on about who he really was in this thread.
I am sad such a great performer and important character has passed away, but such is life.
Dont just listen, you have to watch it to. It is mesmerizing.
I read that he cried after that Motown performance because he thought his performance was awful. To me, it was the greatest thing I've ever seen. I have a giant (at least a few gigs) file of that performance - perfect quality that I would show to my friends who would come over and we'd drink and dance along to it. Ahh ... Michael ...

One of the biggest drawback of being a celebrity is that people are always willing to believe the spectacular simply because it's sensation "news" and more exciting than the truth. For example, if you were to be accused of being a pedophile with nothing but hearsay against you, no one would believe it. (hopefully =P) But for a celebrity it'll follow them till the press drops the issue. RIP King of Pop.

Wow.... I was driving moments ago and I turned on one of most popular radio station in NY, KTU 103.5, and they're like "we've heard multiple reports Michael Jackson is dead.... this is a very sad day... we'll now play MJ songs" and start MJ songs continuously on and on. However, I then tuned onto other radio stations and.... nothing, no news of this, no mention of him, and not even a song of MJ.... even Z100, the most popular radio station in NYC....
But yea, it is a sad day.... however, I'll be frank and honest here, I did not know he was 50 and I stopped caring for him back years ago. Although this is a big news, I just can't see how this will affect my life at any way..... however, at the very least, RIP Michael Jackson.
so sad, he was a great performer, and i grew up listening to him. Despite the fact that he probably was a pedophile, that didn't make the quality of his singing any worse. R.I.P. Michael Jackson D:

Umm Michael Jackson's death is more important than some dumb puppet president dying.
Reminds me of a famous quote:
A nobleman once talked during a performance. Beethoven stopped playing and declared, "For such pigs, I do not play!"
He would say to the face of a prince and benefactor, "What you are, is by accident of birth; What I am, I created myself. There are, and have been, thousands, of princes; There is only one Beethoven."

Man, he absolutely owned it up with that music back then. How did it come to this? He just died like that. Reminds us all of how fragile life can be, and how much we take for granted every day.
I've posted R.I.P. before various times before... but it has always been out of respect and I can't say I ever really meant it or anything :o This time I really feel for the poor guy.. The one man that never really had a life...
He's been my childhood hero for a long time.. Highlight was the history tour in the Amsterdam Arena when I was still very little. Rest in peace Michael.
Ty for all your efforts and all the musical entertainment you have given us.
I'm happy for him to finally have some real peace..

I loved that guy's music. He is an icon, he is a hero, he'll always have my respect. He was an entertainer in it's purest form, and it's a shame to see him go. I can't think of any celebrities that make me sadder to hear go.
Michael Jackson definitely had a hard life and was almost predetermined entirely. He was a social servant for sure. Made literally THE best 'pop' music you'll ever hear and we're lucky to have lived during his time. I'll never forget the debut of the music video for "Black or White" sitting around the living room with my family; it was an EVENT.
Michael Jackson was one of the greatest. Thank you for sharing your music.
I can imagine no worse curse to afflict someone, in America, than dying while famous.
He was strange to the point where he became a poster child for strange, but it was all the sadder because you could tell exactly where the trouble had come from. Since he was a child, he never once had a normal life or happy family or, apparently, any stable cadre of friends that would not defend him against his own absurdities, or screw him over for a little money. His childhood was bitter, brutal, and short. He was a superstar, and perhaps an addict. He was a dominant American force, and perhaps something malevolent. He was undoubtedly unbalanced, mentally and physically frail, maybe even insane. And he was brilliant.
F. Scott Fitzgerald could have written his life story. His was the essence of modern American fame and wealth; an icon of both the selflessly good and the shockingly bad; famous, but alone; shining genius and grotesque self-destruction in constant competition.
Even at his peak he was a tragic figure, already isolated. Wasn't it always obvious why he used his millions to build himself a full-fledged childhood? And how sad it was that he had, apparently, nobody around who could act as an adequate foil. He surrounded himself with friends as he could, but also with fools and clowns and hangers-on.
He was like the kid from the Twilight Zone, I always thought, the one who could get anything he wanted, or wish anyone he wanted into the cornfield, and nobody would or could say a thing about it. Everyone around him seemed afraid of him, except the people who thought maybe they could use him. He was not human, not like them. And he seemed to feel it exquisitely. He mutilated himself -- there was no other word for it. Over decades, he tried to turn himself physically into something else -- a thing in his own image.
Michael Jackson was a dismembered soul; bits and pieces of him had been long ago sold off, and of his own volition. His physical appearance was stark, but uncannily apt, in a world where such things almost never are so literal.
He lay in death as he lived in life, alone but surrounded by thousands. Even as corpse, there are police cars and helicopters and television cameras everywhere, and all his friends (supposed and true) and business partners (close and distant) and hangers-on (of all stripes and demeanors) are on all the networks expressing their sorrow on live television.

MSNBC shows the goddamn ambulance footage -- the ambulance backing up through his gate, backing into the street very slowly and cautiously to avoid the person with the video camera who is filming the unfolding tragedy and will not move farther away. And then as the ambulance drives off, the tour bus drives in, careening past the fire vehicles, blocking the driveway so the tourists can get a good view of the day and place Michael Jackson died.
Gawd, what fuckers these people are. I think if they didn't have police protection on the hospital, people would be going in with scalpels to dismember him piece-by-piece, selling his remains as mementos. If his soul goes to heaven, it will first have to get past a hundred paparazzi with butterfly nets.
He was Norma Desmond, but played larger; he was his own Captain Ahab, seeking to find and murder himself. But goddamnit, he was brilliant too, a nuclear force of music, and no matter how his own soul failed him, that much cannot be denied. Hearing his young voice once again, touching each note flawlessly and effortlessly and with such weight, is nearly shocking. Then video of the gold and green helicopter, spiriting the corpse away. And what luck, in the control room -- we have video of the corpse, unnervingly small and light, wrapped in a brilliant white.
He was loved. By uncountable millions as idol, and by some too-few friends as a person. I hope that in the end he at least knew as much, and that even the most famously, visibly, agonizingly tortured soul in the world could find a little peace in that.

terrible. What ever happened to free speech and alternative views? One could suggest that there are more important things to discuss than a man's death. One could also argue that 20 pages of "RIP", "loved the music", etc are just worthless spam.
One or two voices, mean and self absorbed, leap into the fray with the supreme confidence of an alpha vulture jumping into a flock already thousands strong. Was this one really a true friend? Was that one? Who can tell? Apparently he had about ten thousand closest friends, all of them loved, and every damn last one of them is going to appear before a television camera or do a telephoned interview while old stock footage of the person they loved gets played on a continuous loop, moments of genius and despair carved into a video tombstone.
And what luck, in the control room -- we have video of the corpse, unnervingly small and light, wrapped in a brilliant white.

orly? because being a pretentious ass is such a contribution. not every piece of literature in the world is clear and concise prose jackass. sometimes it's appropriate to let your thoughts just run amok like let's sayyyy when expressing emotion.
seriously, next person who posts about "how good" someone else's "argument" is or about "freedom of speech" or "its okay to be a dick" or whatever other stupid bullshit is gonna eat a two-day ban
Well it's not like anyone can say they never listened to his music. So hate all you want, he's still gonna be remembered more than most people of this generation.
Such a tragedy. Regardless of all the whacked stuff he's done, guy is a phenomenal performer. May he rest in peace. I wonder how big a deal this will be compared to Elvis' and Lennon's deaths.
Wow. This is so unexpected and so sad at the same time.
And for those only thinking about him as a freak and a pedo even tough it was probably never true, remember what he once was: the most succesful artist ever.
Saying I couldn't care less is a bit strong but all the same, death isn't something I'd wish on anyone, so to those that care about Michael Jackson, he is dead but his music lives on.
Was just talking to my mom about this and realized that for us younger people (I'm 25, but that is young enough..) this is basically our "Elvis moment."
Sad to see MJ gone, such an amazing performer and the music industry wouldn't be the same today without his influence. Sad day for the world, right before he was set to make his comeback too.
Edit: Man I forgot how fucking awesome the "Scream" video is with Janet.
He was truly the best entertainer of all time. Atleast for me. Never seen someone who made this kind of music that influenced so much and so many other great artists.
This is really sad. He was so talented. Such a great music, so great...
No charges were ever brought. He settled with two families out of court.
Jackson was accused of child sexual abuse by a 13-year-old child named Jordan Chandler and his father Evan Chandler.[79] The friendship between Jackson and Evan Chandler broke down. Sometime afterwards, Evan Chandler was tape-recorded saying amongst other things, "If I go through with this, I win big-time. There's no way I lose. I will get everything I want and they will be destroyed forever...Michael's career will be over".[80]
Nothing was ever proven by anyone, and a split remains whether MJ was a pedophile or simply taken advantage of by people using him for money.
On another note:
In 2000, Jackson was listed in the book of Guinness World Records for his support of 39 charities, more than any other entertainer or personality.[109]
Seems the tabloids never covered this part of it. Quotes taken from wikipedia obviously.

EXACTLY man. Michael not only was a musical icon but was incredibly selfless in other aspects as well. It's a shame the tabloids and retards have to make such a big deal out of unconvicted charges. What an extraordinary life this man lived. It's been nearly 12 hours since the announcement and I still can't believe it.

He settled with the first family out of court due to his rapidly deteriorating health & drug addiction, brought on by taking painkillers, Valium, Xanax and Ativan at various times & slowly increasing dosages to deal with the stress of this court bullshit & the media explosion surrounding it. Lisa Marie Presley (who he later married & divorced two years later on friendly terms) convinced him to settle out of court & enter rehab, he did both things.
the second case brought against him is the one everyone here is thinking about & is why the retards around the world think he's a child molestor. michael jackson was one of the largest contributors to children's charities, but he also suffered profound abuse during his childhood which caused him to mentally regress as his health worsened. There was a psychiatric evaluation of Jackson during this trial and the doctor concluded that Jackson acted like he had regressed socially (this is common among victims of the sort of abuse Jackson went through as a child), comparable to a ten year old.
here's what most people don't know, because they're too eager to throw shit around: Elizabeth Taylor was at Jackson's home on the night these actions were alleged to have taken place, in the bed with Jackson and the kid, watching fucking Disney movies like you would with a young sibling or a little cousin or something. She went on Larry King and defended Jackson and somehow this slipped under the radar of the rabid jerkoffs that loved to pretend Jackson was a pedophile.
Michael Jackson was acquitted of all charges in this second case & it was proven that this child's mother was a scam artist who had pulled an identical stunt several years earlier.
Michael Jackson had a fucked up life, but he's a legend, and he's not a goddamned pedophile

i think i remember jackson paid ten million dollars to the second accusation to settle things quitly.
could be mistaken, but if it is so its a strange way to prove your innocent

$22million and don't you think it's strange that during a court proceeding something like child molestation could be settled like that?
this came at a time when Jackson's health was hitting rock-bottom, he needed rehab desperately. He settled and admitted himself in rehab immediately.
Sometimes settling out of court is better than taking the risk (no matter how high or low) of being charged with something or even having the (bad) publicity of being in court going through a trial being accused of something.
So, as far as the courts and legal system are concerned, Michael never was a pedo. Funny how people will still believe whatever they want inlight of evidence or fact.
As far as the whole world is concerned, Michael was one of the most influencial musicians of his time. His was a living legend and now he will be a legend in death.
Michael is also one of the most giving and caring musicians/celebrities of all time. Despite his screwed up childhood, or lack thereof, he still managed to inspire millions of people, and at the very least, gave even more millions of people atleast one good song that they liked.
Love him or hate him, you can't deny the impact he had on the world. My (korean) girlfriend became interested in English because of his songs, and now, I'm living in Korea with her and can talk together and share things because of him. So, Michael, thanks for bringing my girlfriend and I together, you played a big part in it.^^
Now you will finally have what your money and fame could never buy you--true peace.
R.I.P. King of Pop
PS Thriller and Smooth Criminal are my all-time favorite MJ songs^^

mine too, on tape though. i remember i always sneaked it out the cupboard so i could listen to it im my room (and not the living room). i must have been 10 years old or so.. dirty diana man. oh boy
I see his death also as the death of modern music cultures, regardless if he was a pedo or not, the fact still remains he is one of the greatest performers, dancer, musicians that has ever lived...
look at the musics today, people listening to stuff like "lick lick lick me like a lollipop pop pop pop"
Not a big fan of pop here, especially considering how much worse pop has become. Still, even I liked some of his work and his influence on the music of especially the 80s and part of the 90s is undeniable. He was a fantastic performer. Sadly he was progressively disturbed. It's scary how someone who rised so high can fall so far -.-

yep. todays chart music is just a joke. Lady Gaga - Pokerface. the refrain is just 1 hookline (cant read my cant read my - no he cant read my pokerface) repeated like 4 times without alteration. it is ridicolous how bad this song is and it still got #1. same for all this casting shows and their outcome
and then you have michael jackson who can put so much anger and hate in his voice (they dont care about us).
There is an old Korean saying, a men only cries 4 times throughout his lifetime.
When you're born, when your parents die, when your country perishes and when Michael Jackson passes away.
I think people misunderstand the word 'allegation'. I can make allegation against anyone, I can sue anyone and I can take anyone to court. Does that make you a criminal? you're only guilty if you're proven guilty. He was never found guilty so why is he a pedophile? It's all just a speculation. There was no plausible evidence that suggest that he sexually molested any of them.
I can understand that it's really tempting if there was a chance to become millionaire overnight, isn't it? especially given such cases are extremely difficult to disprove unless recorded on tape. The outside of court settlement has endowed the plaintiff family with millions overnight.
The 2nd women who accused Jackson of sexual abuse on her child had record of pulling tax fraud scheme against government. Most of the things she claimed was non-credible so MJ was found not guilty.

Why haven't you mentioned Boom Boom Pow? That songs sucks so much ass. OMG, I want to rip orphans apart when I hear that crap.
So many memories rushed through my head when I heard of his death. I remember danicing to his music as a child. Then as a teenager and then as a twen. I'm feeling really sad
I love MJ because of the things he left behind that was good. He chosed to live his life in a certain way and in the process hurt some but there's nothing much we can do about that. But if you go back and look at some of his MTVs such as black or white and they don't care about us and the earth song etc, he left some good things behind and I even MTVs with no particular message was great with his dance moves. He's been wonderful. Rest In Peace. I guess it's part and parcel of life to have wonderful people we know leave until our own day comes but meanwile, I relish their positive memories...

The boy who never grew up: Michael Jackson, 1958-2009
/ / / June 25, 2009
by Roger Ebert
Michael Jackson was so gifted, so lonely, so confused, so sad. He lost happiness somewhere in his childhood, and spent his life trying to go back there and find it. When he played the Scarecrow in "The Wiz" (1978), I think that is how he felt, and Oz was where he wanted to live. It was his most truly autobiographical role. He could understand a character who felt stuffed with straw, but could wonderfully sing and dance, and could cheer up the little girl Dorothy.
We have all spent years in the morbid psychoanalysis of this strange man-child. Now that he has died we will hear it all repeated again: The great fame from an early age, the gold records, the world tours, the needy friendships, the painful childhood, Neverland, the eccentric behavior, plastic surgery, charges of child molestation, the fortunes won and lost, the generosity, the secrecy, the inexplicable marriage to Elvis's daughter, the disguises, the puzzling sexuality, the jokes, and on and on.
I never met him. My wife Chaz did, a long time ago when she was part of a dance troupe that opened some shows for the Jackson Five. What she remembers is that he was -- a kid. Talented, hard-working, but not like other kids. That's what he was, and that's what he remained. His father Joseph was known even then as a hard-driving taskmaster, and was later described by family members as physically and mentally abusive, beating the child, once holding him by a leg and banging his head on the floor. Michael confided to Oprah that sometimes he would vomit at the sight of the man.
Families are important to everyone, and to African-Americans they are the center of the universe. A census is maintained that radiates out to great-nieces and nephews, distant cousins, former spouses, honorary relatives, all the generations. Communication is maintained, birthdays remembered, occasions celebrated. Important above all are parents and grandparents. Family was a support system from a time when slave-owning America refused to recognize black families. Family was the rock.
Michael Jackson doesn't seem to have had that rock. His father seems to have driven him to create an alternate universe for himself, in which somewhere, over the rainbow, he could have another childhood. He named his ranch Neverland, after the magical land where Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up, enacted his fantasies with the Lost Boys. I wonder if we ever really understood how central that vision was to Jackson, or how literally he tried to create it.
I have no idea whether Michael abused the children he "adopted." It is possible those relationships were without sex; he seemed frozen at a time before puberty. Whether he touched them criminally or not, it is easy to see what he sought: To create, with and for these Lost Boys, a Neverland where they could imagine together the childhood he never had.
Mixed with that was perhaps a lifelong feeling of inadequacy, burned in by the cruelty of his father. That might help explain the compulsive plastic surgery, the relentless rehearsal, the exhausting tours, the purchase of expensive toys, the giving of gifts.
The scene everyone remembers from "The Wiz" is Dorothy and the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion dancing and singing down the Yellow Brick Road. They were off to see the Wizard, and a wonderful Wizard he was, because of the wonderful things he does.
In the story, the Wizard is a lonely little man hiding behind a curtain, using his power to create a wonderland. Now Michael Jackson will never be able to tell us what he was hiding behind his curtain. But because of his music, we danced and sang.

I don't think making excellent pop music means you get a free pass on pedophilia, sorry.
I believe that would be zero convictions on pedophilia.
thank you for pointing this out...
people just belive things so easily without actually thinking about them... I honestly think MJ had no ill intentions toward any of the children that he took in, he was just a misguided guy who wanted to be a kid himself. it's kind of sad all the constant jokes and badgering by the media/public probably somewhat drove him to the state that he was in.. I feel really bad for the guy.
very sad, i dont think that Michael Jacksson was an pedophile. Because he loved "children" in a weird and different way. I dont defend him by sleeping in same beds etc with them, but i dont think that a guy with that good heart could do that to a child.
MJ was very big in the pop culture and will always be, his music will never die and every cant say that he filled our youth with good music and dances. Many of my friends wanted to dance like MJ and started practicing.
Just dont go on the subject "pedophile" when he have passed away. Just say "R.I.P" or nothing at all, cause its just confusing people and making a big thing out of nothing.
btw R.I.P MJ! 1958 - 2009!
one friend made this comment "he can "beat it" lol, pretty funny but well....

yep. todays chart music is just a joke.
Why haven't you mentioned Boom Boom Pow? That songs sucks so much ass. OMG, I want to rip orphans apart when I hear that crap.
Hey man, don't be jocking my style... I'm so 3008, you so 2000 and late... What a terrible, terrible, HILARIOUS song.
Michael's penchant for hooking up with great guitarists of the era brought a lot of his music to a place where it bridges gaps between genres, like Eddie Van Halen's work on Beat It, or this tune featuring Slash:

Shit happens when you get sued for child molestation. You have to spend big on lawyers, publicity, etc. Also, making amusement parks at your house must cost big too. Lavish lifestyles can spend thousands of dollars a day on simple things such as food and drink. Not to mention transportation, charity, and many other things.
He was the shit back in the 80's and early 90's. Kids nowadays can't even imagine how big of a hypestorm this guy produced by simply walking down a street. I saw him live and there is just no comparison.
In the 80's when he used to sing live you could really feel his power and style, just pure talent there. Mixed with the coolest most copied dance moves ever you got nothing but great energy. I do have all his albums on vinyl and used to play that shit up and down.
What he did for the last...let's say 10 years is his business, i don't give a fuck. He was crazy yes, but he was fucking MJ non fucking stop, 24/7. To quote pac "And you could walk a mile in my shoes and you'd be crazy too".
When I was a lot younger, I believed all the media nonsense about him being a pedo, but I don't anymore. I think back to that interview on 20:20 or 60 Minutes, I can't recall which, when he said that he was Peter Pan (which is, in a way, an absolutely hilarious sound bite), and I can't imagine a man with a mind so much like a child could look at a child in a sexual way. He was weird to me, no doubt about it, but I don't think that he ever molested those kids. In the same way I don't believe Tyson is a rapist--I think greedy people saw dollar signs when they looked at him and tried to take him for all they could get. It's sad for his fans (and until recently, I never really was one, which kind of upsets me, because I now realize how much awesome music I missed out on. They play several of his songs at some of the bars/clubs I go to out here), but I think it may have been best for him as his tortured soul is now at rest.
Lastly, I'm kind of surprised that these new people aren't being outright banned instead of temp banned. Some of the comments are just so unnecessary, it'd be nice to see a few perms in this thread.

It's a pretty big stretch, in my opinion. Hence "very little." It wasn't THAT bad, I agree, but it also wasn't funny at all. I didn't think "wow, dumbest thing I've ever seen," but I did think "that's not funny."
I think I can appreciate Michael Jackson's music more now that he's dead. Hopefully that will be the larger part of his legacy. It seems like a lot of people are coming around to the fact that he might have just wanted to be a kid rather then a pedophile.

You can really tell how a society and a certain group of people live their lives, and what they value the most when they say they "i don't care", or "good riddance", when they're saying it to one of the biggest and most important musical artists in modern time.
You might not know how many of todays pop artists that you worship today that all took inspiration and learned from Michael jacksons music, from his moves, from his beats, from his stageshows. Michael jacksons pretty much paved the way for pop music to what it is today.
It's fucked up when people write pedofile to a great artist, a dead artist, who lost his childhood beacuse he worked 24/7 to pursue his dreams of becoming the legend he is today. Nothing has ever been proven against him, and now we'll never find out what was really true.
Instead of speculation and making assumptions, lets celebrate the fact that he was the greatest musical artist this world will ever see. Some might say Elvis or beatles were the greatest but MJ had by far the biggest impact and reputation worldwide.
Man i really liked his music cant believe hes dead, i think many cant really. People is now going around saying hes not dead, that the doctors were paid to claim he is, sad.

For what it's worth I feel your pain... human's are the plague that's infested this planet. If our treatment of the world around us reflects any way on our character then it's no surprise we're so ruthless and emotionless at times. Such is our nature... nothing can be done about it. Freedom of speech doesn't include any privately owned forums of speech and expression. The owners can moderate them however they want. Someone needs to go back to Gov class.
There is no freedom of speech on TL, whoever got that idea? This is a privately owned non-profit website and the staff can shut people up if they want to.

Seriously?
I mean, MJ was a great singer and dancer, but that is all tha he was... A singer and a dancer.
You may argue that his music had a great positive effect in his fans, and maybe it is true, but in the end they are just pop songs, how could pop song make any significant differece in the world?, i would bet that every single day at least one person dies that made a more important contribution to our world than MJ, yet nobody cares about people like that, why should non fans of him care about his death?
His music means nothing to me, i dont like it. Im sure that all of his fans are very sad about his death, which makes sense, but i dont see from where this attitude of "everyone should be sad about his death" comes from.
Unless you weren't completely serious with tha comment, and in that case i just owned myself.

Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundations, charity singles, and support of 39 charities. (A record for any artist or entertainer)
Tomorrow is Michael's memorial. I thought it deserves a little *bump*.
I actually have a BBQ going on tomorrow but I'll be inside watching TV :o It must be overcrowded there.. I hope he gets a fitting and respectable funeral.
I'm sure that the memorial service will be respective in many ways in terms of people just having a good time, though ultimately for a morbid reason but he was an entertainer so a final wish is something that can be achieved, I recall the James Brown service positive overall.
To me MJ was the pinnacle of the 80s, an experimental and visual time driven by many people though perfected by this one artist. It says a lot when I have been out for a walk around the block that I hear a Jackson song coming from a car or a house that it must mean something to these people, on a more personal note my girlfriend's father came over with a thriller vinyl an blasted the shit really loud ( I feared a police disturbance call) but all was good, that first edition sounded just as good as when it did those many years ago.

Please, I may have eclectic music tastes (Black, Ambient, Melodic Death, Symphonic, Neo-Classical, Power, etc. metal), but I am in no way, as bizarre as a person who commits disgusting crimes, changes ethnicity, believes to be in a fairy tale, etc upon etc. All of my friends also listen to only the same things I do (Genre wise) and we are by no means bizarre.
Lest I remind you, there are many world figures, solely being a world figure does not lead credence to being looked upon positively (See: Dictators, Felons, etc.). Now, having said that, everyone here is by all means entitled to their own opinions, allowed to grieve, etc., but please there are many people who dislike MJ very much for his horrendous acts, which transcends anything else.
Also, I'm tired of hearing this for a week straight when important issues such as Cap and Trade is hardly noticed in the media. Not only that, but Sheila Lee, is reprehensible.
He isn't a pedophile... The kid even fucking said hes not sure what happened. Micheal Jackson liked kids in a happy way, and he like them because his parents weren't around much...
So, that explains why he likes to sleep with them, and why he paid 24 million to one of the kids....Come on, you think a kid that looks up to MJ is going to send him to jail? Of course he isn't. Anyways, how can a kid not be sure? Because he doesn't understand the gravitas of the situation.
Source for him sleeping with kids?
Dude, idk where your from but say if a Mom or Dad sleep with their kids ( not stick their dick in the kid incase you were wondering ) just shows that the mom/dad has love for the kid and cares about them.

All 'evidence' there was was based on speculation by the media.. the only allegations were those of the kid, whose visual descriptions didn't match reality. Imo giving a false and incorrect description has nothing to do with 'not being sure'. A big investigation had been done, but not a single piece of plausible evidence could be found.
Instead of wanting to completely destroy MJ, the kiddo wanted $60 mil to settle for his complaint + a court order to allow him to publish his own musical composition instead?
In an interview MJ said that he was outraged when his lawyers said they couldn't 100% make sure that justice would prevail. The $22 mil settlement he made was mainly a decision made by his lawyers and advisers.
I honestly believe that MJ tried to make the world a better place and had a great genuine love for others. He has always been very generous and spent a lot of his profit on charities and devoted his life to entertain the public and to give them what they wanted. This made him an odd guy that never had been able to grow up a normal life, which caused him to be misunderstood by the public. I guess his 'creepy' looks didn't really work in his favor either.
Anyways, if you want to separate his skill from his personal being, you might want to consider all the great things he has done next to the rumors and scandals which were mainly hyped by the media but never have been proven.

I think one should always be careful not to project one's own tastes in matters of music onto others. The claim that Michael Jackson (of all people! why not Mozart, or John Lennon or Animal Collective?) made "musical appreciation almost completely objective" is, if I understand it correctly, rather outlandish.

Look, just to clear this up I'm going to be succinct so you can get to the heart of the issue without any 'celebrity' bias.
From the BBC documentary and MJ's own recorded account:
"I have slept in a bed with many children,"
Now, think about this for a second. This at the time was a 45 year old man. Ask yourself, would you ever allow your children to sleep in bed, with a 45 year old man? Do you think those actions constitute a mental deficiency and a clear sexual problem?
Why would anyone laud this guy? Sure, he was a musician and popular, but his actions have superceded his fame. It's time to stop holding celebrity's above others, as if they are ordained and apparently hold some greater admiration. This coming in the same week in which the most decorated soldier in the history of the US who had multiple purple hearts, and served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and flew countless missions died. That is the person people should look up to and admire.
I guess the sworn affidavit by the child was propagated by the media......and as such, wasn't evidence. I would be remis if I did not ask you, what do you feel constitutes evidence?
This isn't the only time, nor the first to come forward. The recurring issue, and the fact that MJ himself admitted to sleeping with children paints a pretty clear picture.
That said, I'll also point out in regards to the crazy antics of late by Sheila Lee and Al Sharpton this whole MJ ordeal lately is such a damn freak show and as a nation and a society, we have so much more to worry about and many more deserving people of media attention.
John Mayer rocked Human Nature. So nice. I'd loved to see he playing solo the whole song in the tune he started playing it, the band just..didn't cut it .

There's a ridiculously large difference between being charged and being convicted. How on earth could you hold that against him?
I don't even understand how this could be ruled a homicide over something like negligent manslaughter or whatever. Are they basically saying the Dr. intended on killing him by injecting him with drugs? I find it hard to believe that Jackson wasn't the one begging for more drugs.

Exactly. As I posted above, they're probably just looking for someone to scapegoat.
"Of course it was MJ's fault.. he was trying to make a come back." Yeah...
