Greetings TL! With the passing of my old dog a week before last Christmas, my family has decided to get a new pup. My sister, dad, and mom have decided they like the name Bailey.... which is fine IF IT WAS A GIRL. Yes, Bailey can be a guys name, but I personally don't know any guy Bailey's and I think it's a very feminine name.
I have decided to brainstorm a name that would be a better fit, but I am still open to suggestions. I want it to be an awesome name that relates to my childhood while tying itself into the dog's look / personality. Here is a picture of him:
My favorites so far are Optimus Prime (for sheer awesomeness), Doctor Wiley (Doc for short), Maximus (Max), or Little Mac (Mac).
Poll: Pick a name or suggest your own! What fits? (Vote): Bailey (Vote): Little Mac (Vote): Doctor Wiley (Vote): Maximus (Vote): Other (suggest in thread)
Help!

I have a male dog named Bailey so im biased
|
I've never met any girls named bailey, so the name seems masculine to me.
|
Why have such long names for a dog? Like what do you say? "Yeah my dog is called Optimus Prime but he tells his friends to call him Opti"... Imo a dog's name should be what you teach him to respond to, so it should be relatively short. Don't have any good suggestions though, sorry. Only name that comes to mind is my friend's cat: Raptor (which in that case is rather fitting).
|
I come into this thread, briefly read the first post and think, "Yeah, Bailey is a pretty stupid name." And then I scroll down and see that you want to name him Optimus Prime -- for "sheer awesomeness." how typical of an internet forum

Not really a problem. My dog responds to a bunch of different names. A lot of dogs do it
|
Ideally, dog names should be 2 syllables because they respond best to names like that (I forget where I read this but I'm not making it up). Optimus Prime is definitely not going to fly with my parents or sister and there is no way to shorten it but I thought I'd throw it in the running for comedic effect.
Seriously though, I would like to name it after some sort of character. My sister keeps coming up with these stupid people names like mason, cooper, trevor, etc etc. Those are so lame (no offense if that is your name; I mean strictly in a dog naming sense)!

I don't know who or what Doctor Wiley is, but I voted for that name anyway because I like the idea of calling him by the short name 'doc'.
|
agree, Dr. Wiley is quite fitting.

He is the bad guy from megaman! You can call him Doc or Wiley really
|
|
he definitely looks like a Killer Human Cheney Bobbitt Clemens Tossgirl
|
I would have voted Optimus Prime, but like you said, it's too long. Keeping with the transformers theme, you could call him Ravage, who is a transformers dog anyway. All that's missing are the guns mounted to his hips and the ability to turn into an audio cassette.
|
Yeah no offense, but "optimus prime" is way too long and doesn't have a nice diminutive. I can't imagine anyone calling out to their dog "optimus prime" or "opti" or "prime" or anything that can be derived from optimus prime.
|
|
I suggest bobolini (bobo for short or bo for very short) as a possible name! Dr. Wiley is good though also.
|
or name it "you"
great for the lulz
|
Removed optimus prime from the voting for previously stated reasons. I also have Rush (megamans dog), bowser, koopa.

Gregson or Evil. Both names that would be fitting for an attack dog, like you will clearly tell your friends that he is anyway.

Spike works for every dog hahaha XD

Fang, hes white, and badass, call him Fang

Consider:
Huevos Carlos Sanchez Ricardo
name your dog RICARDO MARTINEZ

Personally i think naming your dog after a celebrity or fictional character or some arbitrary thing that you think sounds 'neat' is kind of dumb. If you're going to have a pet you should keep it around as a buddy not like some cool or quaint thing you can show to your friends. In that regard and for the sake of respect i'd say a human name or some kind of relavent nickname would be more appropriate.
Don't misconstrue/misunderstand my post as saying that dogs are on par with humans and deserve respect for that reason. They're just not that sub-human. And if you encourage breeding operations with your contribution to pet demand and supply, without even having and being ready to show respect for the animal you're bringing into your home, then you're kind of a dick, in my opinion.

So one year at my university (Carnegie Mellon), a shitload of people voted Optimus Prime as a write-in candidate so half the seats in student government were occupied by Optimus Prime. They had to have a re-vote in the fall and the constitution had to be amended to only accept people with valid Andrew IDs for candidates lol.

I've always wanted to name a dog zwei after the dog from cowboy bebop...

Or, Doctor Wiley.
