I prefer light mice, because they don't tire my wrist and elbow as much.

Actually when referring to the computer peripheral mouses is not wrong... not really right either. Both mouses and mice are proper plurals of the computer mouse =) Mouses just sounds wrong, though. =b As for weight... I'm not entirely sure. I suppose I like lighter mice. Frankly, I don't like to say I like heavy mice, clothpads, and tilt-wheel. I find systems that work. Right now my weapon of choice is the Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical. Simple, cheap, comfy and solid. Owning 5-7 brand-name mousepads and more than my share "gaming" mice, many spur-of-the-moment-looks-cool-to-add-to-collection mice, it's funny that I settle on the WMO, a Qck+, and, of course, my Mouse Bungee (<-- best purchase out of any computer peripheral).

I've got a Razer Diamondback 3G and a Logitech Mini Optical. They're about the same weight but the mini optical is considerably smaller. I've been using both quite a while now and I like the Diamondback more for shooters and the like because it fits into my hand pretty neatly and I can use my wrist to aim without having to grip the mouse too tightly. On the other hand the mini optical feels a lot better for rts games where I have to switch directions a lot and often have to do very small movements very quickly because it's way easier to move the mouse just with my fingertips.

I use a microsoft optical mouse that was bought back in.. 2002 or something, pretty surprised that it's still working. Stop putting so much emphasis on gears and just play the game.

Mainly because in some games, I have to actually lift the mouse up when I move the mouse too much, in order to put it back into the center of my mouse pad.

I have the sensitivity turned up pretty high though, so the mouse doesn't ever move too far from the center of the pad.

I've never used a razer before. I've had the DeathAdder for about a year and a half now, and I love it to death (no pun intended). I had a Logitech MX550 (I think that was the name...) previously which I loved for browsing because of all the extra buttons, but the DeathAdder felt like it was more like it was meant for gaming. It's relatively light IMO and it has teflon pads on the bottom that make it slide over your mousepad crazily smooth (I love that about it). It can also operate over a huge range of sensitivities which you can switch by pressing a button underneath it. My only major qualm about it is that it gets dirty extremely easily on the non-rubber sides, but I got over that easily. I would definitely recommend it, though I haven't tried the other Razer models extensively so I can't comment on those ![]()

Mouses is perfectly correct if you are referring to computer mouses -_-. In fact, I prefer people say mouses over mice. Sounds a lot more intuitive anyway. The lighter the better for RTS games! For FPS I'd use something heavier.

But seriously, I use a Razor Diamondback and I think the weight is PERFECT. The only thing I dont like about my specific mouse is its a little TOO easy to click down the buttons, often causing some undesired results. So I'd say I prefer a lighter mouse but not my mouse specifically. I was looking at some Logitech mice and might try thouse out. I have the Logitech G15 and I can tell you... I totally should have listened to everyone who said dont get one. This thing is absolutely awful compared to just a straight up cheap keyboard when it comes to gaming. Not that that has anything to do with OP... TL:DR: Light mouse.

Btw if anyone is looking for a cheaper alternative to the Logitech Mini Optical then try this one out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140306962256 Been using for several years now and I love it. The only problem I had with it was my last ones scroll wheel broke and I had to replace it (one of my friends had the same mouse and the same problem so I think its common after a lot of use).

I've never used a razer before. i have a DeathAdder and it is the best mouse i have ever used... bought it summer of 2008 and its still holding up great... for starcraft i would say it's a bit unnecessary but for Counter-strike and quake, its the best mouse ive used. its light enough that even in long gaming sessions your wrists wont get tired. also, the added confidence boost of "i'm using a razer mouse with a shitload of DPI" doesnt hurt frag counts either... dont let friends who arent gamers use it though... my buddies hate the mouse with a passion and think it's too sensitive. also, the LED is kind of annoying at night when i'm trying to sleep and the damn mouse shines brighter than Times Square... otherwise, its a 10/10!

May be in FPS I will prefer a heavy mouse because I don't have a lot of strength in my hands, so, when I will target someone y need the mouse to stop just when I want to (or even before), and i don't want my screen moving like a 300 apm sc player because I cant see a thing being so fast

for the record, i was trying a laptop mouse- very tiny- for a while. when i was trying to increase my APM for Starcraft. it did very very little for me. even though its probably 1/3 as light. id say its got more to do with the size of your hand than the weight, assuming its not made of lead... there really isnt much weight there.

From a race specific standpoint if you look at a race such as toss that requires considerable less speed than terran, but far more precision, then high sensitivities and heavy mouses may complement eachother, but a light mouse probably makes more sense. In FPS if you use a higher sensitivity, the you will need some degree of control and in a large sweeping motion that may very well come from the weight of your mouse (or some decadent mouse pad who knows its FPS. Popular FPS mice are also shaped to facilitate the predominant left/right wrist motion such as a razer copperhead so that can play a bigger role than weight. One thing to consider is the ratio of the size/shape of the mouse to the weight. Contours are fairly common in large mice, and if your mouse is built to fit your hand like a glove (usually your right hand) and sort of finger movement is crippled but you atleast get a good grip on it. An example would be the Logitech MX510, where you have a great grip on the mouse and the weight inside of it should get ripped out, and unsurprisingly the MX518 did not come with a weight because it didnt require one. A non contoured large mouse (microsoft intellimouse status) probably would fare well with a small ammount of additional weight. But with a small mouse such as a any mouse ranging from a stock logitech optical to the razer salmosa, there is absolutely no reason for a weight.

My dad uses a wireless mouse, I can't imagine playing with that, it's so heavy, I can move it but I think that sort of mouse would be better for shooters. ![]() vs. ![]() i prefer light mouses. maybe heavy ones are a bit more accurate, but i think it's not that comfortable to play with a heavy one. i have a mx510 and it's wight is exactly how i need it. edit: after thinking about it again i'd say it doesn't really matter how heavy your mouse is. you just have to get used to it and it will be fine.

1) removed mouse scroll 2) removed scroll switch - which is soldered to the board 3) removed 3rd button micro switch - soldered to the board (when u press down the mouse scroll) 4) removed all the stickers (yea the stickers and the adhesive glue adds to the wieght) 5) removed the screw driver holding the upper body to the chassis 6) removed mouse skate The only thing left to do is: 1) Replace the thick usb cable of LMO with the thin usb cables that comes with razer mouse.

the force necessary to accelerate an object x meters/second/second is proportion directly to its mass. The more massive, the harder it will be to change direction. Thus, the lighter the mouse, the better control.

People who use a heavier mouse will have greater sensitivity settings and they can move the pointer just as far, just as fast as someone with a lighter mouse. I prefer a large, moderately heavy mouse because: 1. Heavy mouse / high sensitivity combination requires less free space for the mouse to move around, which works well in a cramped environment, and more importantly 2. A large mouse feels better in my hand than a small, light one.

And a moderately heavy mouse. I don't like over sensitive mouses that shoot out in a direction just from the slightest touch. I want something with a little resistance

Heavy mouse / high sensitivity combination requires less free space for the mouse to move around, which works well in a cramped environment, and more importantly 2. A large mouse feels better in my hand than a small, light one. Physics is physics. All other things equal, it will take longer to manipulate a heavy object than a light one. My argument has nothing to do with size, though surface area of the contact between the mouse and your pad/table will have a huge influence on the static friction (the barrier of force you have to break to get the mouse moving.) Thus, neither of your points are valid: 1.) Heavy mouse/ high sensitivity requires less free space than a heavy mouse/ high sensitivity, or a light mouse on low sensitivity. That is not to say a heavy mouse/ high sensitivity requires less free space than a light mouse/ high sensitivity. 2.) A large mouse can also be a light mouse. Just to play some extremes, if you had two mouse(s) of the same size, one weighing in at 0.5 kilos and the other so light that the additional resistance provided by its mass is negligible compared the air resistance surrounding your hand, I think the option would be obvious. You make the argument for fit between hand and mouse, and it is entirely irrelevant to the mass of the mouse.
