About two weeks ago I found out my dog got knocked up. Even though she's only ten months old. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with dogs giving birth, should I just leave it to her or should I be much much much more worried? I was searching online and a lot of websites gives you entire sets of procedures to go through, yet when I ask most people they just say "oh... she'll do it all herself you don't have to worry". Honestly I don't have a lot of money, so is it really necessary to pay for multiple X-Rays, keep her at the vet, pay them to watch the delivery, etc.?

And after she gives birth is she able to take care of the pups by herself or I have to watch over them every day?

The only risk if you just let him deal with it is he might die. If you don't watch the puppies, he will eat them.

you can post stuff like this in blogs, a mod will probably close this soon and you can repost it there.

anyways, i think this summarizes it nicely http://www.guideofdogs.com/html/dog_delivery__dog_birth__puppy.html

it even has a section for when you should contact a vet etc

Dude, since the beginning of times, six thousands years ago, dogs are not being able to actually reproduce by themselves.

This is why they need constant over-watch and caring by us, the most intelligent race of the planet and the chosen of God.

Otherwise they will sin like lick their ass and / or copulate within their own family, but a good way to prevent that is giving them at least 2 X rays session a week.

I know it is expensive, but that's the price to pay... and it is nothing compared to other foe like girls, kids, etc.
Resistance ain't futile

I've only breed two types of dogs so I don't know if this is general knowledge or specific

(chihuahua's and basset hounds).

Make sure you have a box or closest corner that is all set up with blankets and papers, so that she is secure/secluded, lots of movement or activity can cause them to try and move during birth and can cause complications.

You do not need to do anything besides pet her and bring little bites of cheese/meat to keep her eating. A water dish must be near by.

Keep a pair of sharp sisscors handy. Basicly imagine the puppies trapped inside of a ballon, sometimes (you should check on her) they will get stuck and fail to breach the womb(?) If this happends you have about 2 minutes to cute them out before they suffocate. Also if your dog tries to get up (they do sometimes) while birthing the puppies , YOU MUST contain her. The life puppy is in your hands if she gets frightended and tries to run around (this is the most gross part that you deal with).

Dogs under 1 year have a higher fatality rate in puppies, accept that ahead of time and when everything goes great, feel blessed.

Everything I've told you is worse case scenario, I'm watching gomtv as I write this so if any sentences don't flow sorry, but kwanro is winning and I can't figure out why!

Gl, pictures of the puppies yo~!

(Ps I forgot this part, this is the heart breaking part, if you see a puppy is not breathing, do not fucking think, pick it up, and hold if, if you feel the lungs move, then your fine, but if you do not pick your mouth over the puppies head and gently breath in and out for 10 seconds. I've jump started many hearts this way(I don't know why it just works!).

Sure I'll post some pictures soon, no puppies yet though.

Also, yes she's a Chihuahua, and I have a kennel type deal in the edge of my closet, hopefully that will suffice.

chihuahua's are really easy all the way around although it might take 6-10 hours for her to give birth, all my chihuahua's took forever to give birth there first time.

After this though they become veterans and its a cakewalk.

I had a dog that was ~10 months old get knocked up.

If you can remember the date when it has happened, it's roughly 63-65 days from that day. Your dog will start burrowing feverishly when she's about to go into labor

The music in this vid is retarded but it should give you a good idea when she's about to go into labor.

She might puke abit and she'll definitely start acting differently (being secluded). My dog wouldn't let me leave the room, she kept following me whenever i tried to go somewhere (towels or w/e) when she was in labor, so if you're around to observe, try and keep all the stuff you need handy right there because all the movement can make them a bit restless

Generally a pup should be out in ~3-4 contractions or so. If it's a breach birth you'll want to keep an eye out if the mom's having a hard time esp since she's still pretty young. If it's not coming out, you can assist by gently pulling with a slight twist. Chances are you won't need to do this though.

A couple of things to have handy are a heating pad (like 20-25 bucks) and sterilized scissors. The biggest reason for pup fatalities is them freezing to death. I put warm water in bottles and stuck them under the towels to help out. If you want to observe the birth you can pull out a dresser drawer, that works fine temporarily.

you'll prolly be able to read up online about what you need for her diet, but as a rule of thumb i've read that supplements are a bad thing, at about 4 weeks of pregnancy her appetite will go up, and after 4 weeks of giving birth she'll be eating like she's crazy to feed the pups

overall you should have it easy tho~ GL

Dogs have been giving birth for millenia. I'm sure that she will be fine and even if she doesn't survive the birth, which is unlikely, getting x-rays and stuff is basically throwing money away. And if she's 10 months old, that makes her 6 years old in people years, so that makes it okay ^^

Your profile says USA but you must be German

Our ~10 month old dog got knocked up by her brother, vet recommended we abort due to the young age. Didn't do so for the mother though so she had a batch of retard babies. Well, they were perfectly normal aside from the two that died and disappeared down her gullet

My tip is to let professionals(vets) do it, lessens the risk of killing your own dog and its puppets.

I "delivered" a litter of pups about 2yrs ago... was pretty ez dog did all the hard work... all i really had to do was clean up all the nonsense, and keep the "pin" area clean constantly... the runt died after 2 days (it had really trouble fighting w/ all the other youngin's for breast milk and was often found alone in the opposite corner of the pin ) , but there were 6-7 other healthy hounds...

Trust me on this one, it's not worth the work if you just want the money. If you're a pet person and want it for the experience or whatever then that's okay, but don't expect to make money off of it unless it's an expensive breed. You have to pay for vaccinations and other vet stuff (castration, or if some are deformed it'll cost a lot to kill them, unless you kick it oldschool), as well as food.

I see nothing wrong w/ that rack.

As for the OP, probably contacting a vet would be a good idea.
