Rob shoulda picked Incontrol as his partner... then things might have turned out different =) if only they realized how much more gaming skill is required to be a national SC champion, compared to these other nub games.. heheheh

And btw, what the hell was the point of getting a score if it was just whoever passes the finish first get the win? lol @ people getting mad at who wins. Who the fuck cares #1, Does it affect your life whatsoever? #2, Stop saying Rob is the better gamer, because clearly after all the competition real life and not Mark prevailed as the winner. In fact here are the stats from each episode: + Show Spoiler + Mark 6th 6th 5th 7th 1st 1st 4th 4th 2nd 1st Rob 12th 8th 3rd 2nd 2nd 6th 3rd 2nd 1st 2nd Not counting the finals. I count two 1sts and a 2nd for mark with his worst ever being a 6th. Rob on the other hand got some really bad rankings a few times and only placed 1st once with three 2nds. #3, At first everyone was calling rob a douche bag with his contacts, sideways hat, fingerless gloves, sleeping with hoodie on, and his "definite" bullshit. Now you all love him? #4, I think you are all either jealous that this average joe gamer (with a crappy style and gf) won 100k for a fairly luck based competition. #5 Rob clearly cracked under pressure, where on the other hand Mark was excited and pumped. I think we can all agree that even the most talented player is worthless if he can't play under pressure. And about the worst gamers on the show, Obviously its the girls so take them aside and that leaves Inc and JD basically. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WCG_Ultimate_Gamer As far as the best record, Swoozie has really good scores in almost everything with the most 1sts. But the fact of the matter is he did the worst of the 4 best gamers in Halo. Like I said its luck based, if they had switched halo and SC4 maybe it would be a different story. Btw Jamal has probably the best looking record of all imo, his worst ranking was 5th and everything else is top 4. And he even defended a few elim rounds as well.

#2: I think it's fair to say that the RL challenges have no bearing on whether someone is a good gamer or not. Interesting though to see that Mark was averaging the best places overall. #3 It's a definite that my opinion of him changed as I saw him play the games. I still find those contacts terrible btw. #4 either that or what? I'm jealous he got 100k and I didn't, of course. But I don't hate the guy or anything.

Just wish they would do more PC gaming, like include games like Quake3/CS/COD4 (or even Starcraft ![]() CS or COD could work early in the season... they could train for a day in two teams and play 5v5 on dust2. Lowest score on losing team is up for elim. Kinda like the Halo match they did, but they should show more of the actual gameplay. Since the games are faster paced than Halo it'd be way more interesting to watch imo. Quake3 would be fucking perfect as one of the games for the 1v1 "final showdown" at the end of the season. Same with Street Fighter 4, or any decently-made fighting game out there. Starcraft would be hilarious in that all the gamers that are unfamiliar with it would be laughably bad. I'd love to see it on the show, but if we're being practical, there's no chance.

I would hope they use some non console games too, but older games might not make it in. It would be more likely to have Quake 4 or Unreal Tourney 3 though. If they do older games, obviously counterstrike (even though its a team game and it sucks imo). Imo they should just do all the greatest games of all time. Like have them do a speed run of mario brothers, beat the most levels on tetris, etc.

I can't help but feel that if Jamal had somehow squeaked through that Halo marathon and made it to the final round, he would have cleaned up in the first game and SC4, and therefore won the whole thing. I'm sure he would have beaten Rob 1v1 in those 3 games. Heck from what we saw on the show, I even think Swoozy would have taken Rob as well. It really all came down to the final game choices that the show's producers made, and those choices definitely worked against Rob. Tough shit.

Of course there was a lot of luck involved, but that's just how tournaments work. It's not like they can feasably ask them to compete in all types of game at every single round. edit: actually I would have really enjoyed watching that lol, next time they should do that and cut out the stupid personal drama that we've all seen a million times on reality tv shows.

Surely for this show they knew they had to be damn skilled in fighting games to win it... and that, along with console FPS and GH/DDR/Rock Band type games, were basically the 3 genres you had to be good at if you wanted a chance. I actually wonder if the producers deliberately left decisions like that to the last second, so that they could influence the outcome without outright rigging it. Mark seems like a more personable guy than Rob--maybe WCG thinks of him as a better spokesman. I know it's a conspiracy theory, but things like this have happened before, and how else to explain the lack of transparency (posting some sort of schedule of events in advance) and arbitrariness of the elimination procedure, which, as many people have pointed out, essentially resulted in the "Ultimate Gamer" being determined by the order (and point value!) of events chosen, in every round of the show, in the Gauntlet, and in the final? edit: On April 30 2009 12:41 Luddite wrote: Of course there was a lot of luck involved, but that's just how tournaments work. And obviously this show involved far, far more luck than any sort of tournament in a single event. I'm not complaining, mind you: this was a reality show, not a tournament. The pretext of finding the "ultimate gamer" (if such creature exists) was paper thin.

At least the Soul Caliber showdown made it pretty fucking exciting even if the quality of the play was pretty low. That 9th round omg. :o

i can't judge their skill though, but the sc4 looked pretty bad. then again my only soulcal experience is with sc3's xianghua among my friends, spamming AA variations, 3B/K, etc. and of course the awesome 66AB(G) lol. enough to beat my friends (and make them hate xianghua's 66AB move) but that's about it.
