I think Mark played well for a pc gamer in console games. Till I saw this LAN screenshot here I thought his special field "shooters" was referred to console shooters. He handled the pressure well and had a positive attitude which also fits with the idea of beeing a wcg representative in public. So for me its not complete undeserved.

I would also had preferred to see some Quake or SC competition in it. But the money of the mass is ofc rather more in this new console games than in classic pc games. I was wondering how people out of the context of this show and after a couple of episodes still were hoping for a SC challenge.

And this show was expected to boost esports in the US? If anything it made a huge joke of it.

Agreed, doubt it will help eSports in any way, except maybe for giving the mainstream a skewed perception of what eSports really are. Now instead of more SC, CS, Halo or fighting game players coming in for tournaments, we'll have a bunch of donks who think a pro-gamer is someone who excels at all games.

GFG WCG, next time why don't you just broadcast your fkin tournaments .... Would've been so much better.

Competitive gaming is more on pc than any other system imo... damn microsoft pushing money in wcg face to make it xbox360 only (that retarted racing game on the phone is retarted and doesn't count )

I'm pretty sure Ciji turned all the girls against Mark. She was a somewhat vindictive bitch, imo.

Mark's play was completely clutch, down 0-4.

Well, congratulations to Mark for winning this. However, I don't feel like he's actually the right person to represent WCG and thus the gamers in the public perception. Personally, I think Geoff or Amy would have been better suited as they are very polite, mature and can be very articulate. I hope there's a second season although I currently am excluded from viewing this as WCG stupidly chose Hulu as their platform..

True. Luckily, from what I see and hear, they are using the whole cast as reps, really. They wouldn't pass up a rep like iNc! <3

I was rooting for Rob. I think he's the best all around gamer. That doesn't mean that any one of the other players doesn't have twice his skill (*coughiNcontroLcough*) in their respective games, but he seems to have the most all-around skill.

And Mark is a skeez.

Also I think it's hilarious how Rob was completely overconfident (the entire season mind you) and had to prove his worth to his mother and then just failed. Imo, that's what he gets for being so cocky.

+1
that mother comment was sooo damn funny

something like :

"I need to show my mom that I can be 'sussessful', this is my moment to win. I will be the WCG ultimate gamer. That's a definite."
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

Of course there was a lot of luck involved, but that's just how tournaments work. It's not like they can feasibly ask them to compete in all types of game at every single round.

Not chess tournaments. And obviously this show involved far, far more luck than any sort of tournament in a single event.

I'm not complaining, mind you: this was a reality show, not a tournament. The pretext of finding the "ultimate gamer" (if such creature exists) was paper thin.

Of course there is luck in chess tournaments. There is plenty of luck in chess games even: you play risky opening, your opponent didn't study the refutation for it, you get a better game just because you avoided his opening knowledge.

And in tournaments, there is luck in both figuring out who you will play and what color you will get for the most important games. I almost won a pretty big event by playing scrub after scrub who had just gone on a few game winning streak while avoiding all of the legitimately good players. Plus the difference between white and black in the last round is very important, although a lot of the time that comes down to who had the higher rating going into the event.

But about the show, I wish there were more post-game commentary in the episodes. I was hoping for a Ciji interview, or at least a Rob interview, after the finals. They kinda just showed the games and then "see you next season!" without any time to take it in.

^I was referring to the round-robin style that chess tournaments usually go with. Of course the details depend on the tournament; in a large tournament like the one you describe, I will grant that there is quite a bit of luck involved. In a small double round-robin tournament, say, where each player plays each other player as White and as Black, luck is minimized. The really big-name tournaments are usually run that way, I believe.

- as far as "representing" gamers over all I think that show was a piece of dung, it made gamers over all look like tools..

- they put a girl more worried about drama and dressing up like an anime to represent female gamers than actual gaming - when there is a shit load of talented cs girls out there.. the other girls were a joke as "gamers" (with the exception of Athena the only worthy female representation there)
- they put a tool that would rather hide behind zombie blue eyes than let anyone see his Hispanic heritage; no pride sad; plus he lost like a dumb arse (I STOOD for U man.. (after geoff got liquidated) I wanted u to win and u phucked up at the last moment, ur own blue haze insecurity defeated you, ur brain told you could NOT win against a white boy, serves u right)
- the Okie that won it was not the best gamer out of that lot, so the contest was crap AND u'd have to shoot me before I show up on national tv with an whale for a gf that looks like she did her hair in an Indian reservation; makes us gamers "look" like the crowd to be lol..
- there is soooo many azn gaming, they make at least 30% (or more) of all the decent gaming communities in the west (and like 99% in the east) and they ONLY put ONE azn guy???!! who on top of it is more of a girl than a guy and sets himself on a mission to shame all azn gamers with his emo drama? and plus gets himself eliminated (his worst offense) even though he actually did well in most of the better games.
- the final straw for me was when they made our very own Herculean Hero dance like a monkey on national TV to lose (I swear they did it on purpose) and get eliminated in game no one but 10-year-olds and numa-numas play in dingy drug infested arcades..

- as far as entertainment, it was "ok", for me geoff was still the only reason I followed it (I missed 2 episodes though) (thanks geoff, u really did take one for the team, pity u didn't win; tl.net staff, plz send him a t-shirt, he earned it, just look at this thread, it's a monster)

Well everybody got his opinion but tbh I find this point pretty weak. When it would be your gf I guess there would be a reason behind it. If you are though ashame of her because of the common taste of beauty or you must serve more the opinion of the crowd than take care of those what you call friends then you got no ass.

Personally I find it even more interesting when you not always see the same dolls right out of the dreamfactory and people which despite seem to have no problems with it instead of the same camera victims that in first place always must serve their little hollywood idols inside of them.
