I use fingertip grip on it, but i have big hands. If you have daintier hands you could go with a g3

My number one recommendation would be the Logitech Mini Optical. It's used by most progamers. It is definitely one of the smaller mouses as it was designed for laptop use (it comes with a USB extension though).

The next best would be the G3 or G1. I think Stork uses the G1. The G3 and G1 have the same shape as the out of production MX300. I have yet to try them but if Stork uses the G1, it has to be pretty good, right?

Basically:
1. Logitech Mini Optical
2. Logitech G1
3. Logitech G3

Doesn't even matter unless you're using a high sensitivity. Try setting your Windows mouse settings notch to the middle - unless you want a sensitivity higher than that, your current DPI is sufficient.

Has anyone used a Razer Salmosa? How does it compare to the more popular choices as listed above?

Depends on your needs.

If you play most games at a large resolution a native res on like a 22"+ monitor chances are you will be needing a higher DPI which in lame terms means how fast the mouse can go from point x to y on the screen.

Also what are your habits in the main set of games you play?

Do you pick up your mouse a lot then you probably want a mouse that doesn't weigh a ton.

Do you use your whole arm to move it or as little as your fingers means your dpi should reflect your habits.Which also reflect what kind of mouse shape do you want. Usually if you just move it with your fingers you want a mouse that is shorter because you don't need one with a large hump on its back.

Are your right handed and want an ergonomic mouse?
if you are switching from a symmetrical mouse to a ergonomic one are you willing to have an awkward week while you get used to it?

I like my Razer Krait. I haven't used a ton of mice but the krait is quick, accurate, and is a comfortable fit for me.

Buy mice and return them if you don't like the feel. Just say griping it hurts your hand or something to return it pay the like 3 buck restocking fee and go through your 3 main choices and decide from that experience.

I use this Logitech mice

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/344&cl=us,en#

There is a cheaper version too, but the one above is labeled as "High-Definition Optical Sensor, Scroll Wheel, Tilt Wheel". The one below is just "Optical Sensor, Scroll Wheel"

I have used many mice. I have large hands. I use fingertip grip mostly. I prefer smaller/light mouse.

My Ranking:

Razer Viper:

Best gaming mouse I've had so far. Opti 1000dpi, Very light, Smooth struts on bottom, narrow & not heavy, and no extra bullshit buttons. I don't really like the rubbery grip clear line across the side but I don't really touch it anyways.

Logitech MX300:
(I had a white one without that button in the middle but basically same look)

Oldschool mouse, opti 600 or 800 dpi (cant remember), light when you remove the weight, same as above but slightly wider.

Logitech G3:

Laser 2000 dpi, same look as 300 but heavier and has extra buttons for web browsing.
Great mouse for browsing and still pretty good for gaming.

Logitech MX310:

Opti 800 dpi, used this mouse for years (had 2), pretty solid, never really liked the ergonomic shape but its pretty similar to the MX300 but slightly heavier (I think you can remove weight) and side buttons. Great for browsing and pretty ok for gaming.

Logitech MX500 & 510 & 518:

Opti 800dpi, used these mice for a long time, All pretty much the same, never liked the bulkiness or shape, heaviest of all these (even with weight removed), has side buttons for browsing. Good mouse for browsing not so good for gaming imo. PS- the only difference I found between these are the colors..

And of course I've gone through lots of cheapy opti mouse in the downtime between other mice.
If you must go with one of these the best one I had was something like 'A4 tech' and it was grey kinda slender/long and light opti mouse with 800dpi I think. Pretty light weight as well.
looks kinda like this:

PS- I currently have G3 and Viper plugged in simultaneously and I switch between them for gaming/browsing.
The G3 has much higher sensitivity.

PPS- If you use my mouse button fixing guide/blog the MX300 is the hardest to fix. And I haven't tried opening the Viper or G3 yet to check for weights because the screws are under the struts (but I think they don't have any anyways).

..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

I personally have the Salmosa and can only recommend it. Very very small and lightweight with 1800dpi. I've nothing bad to say about it at all.

Also, it came in a box with a WC3 pro on the front, kinda awesome^^;

Logitech optical mini.

Microsoft wheel optical (srs, BoxeR and Reach both used this mouse)

basically it doesn't matter.

KTECs supposedly nice if you can get your hands on them.

I got the G5 a few months ago. The only reason I chose the G5 over the other gaming mice in the store was cuz the only gaming mice available at the time were:
-G9
-MX1000
-Razer Lychosis

(not many stores here devoted to gaming...)

Edit: Not saying the G5 is bad . I love the mouse
