i think any of the damage obama did to his campaign by not choosing hilary or a woman for the VP was quickly undone when palin started opening her mouth

I think the Clinton supporters who claimed to be supporting McCain were only making empty threats because they want to be courted by the next candidate.

Would you have voted for clinton for president?

Had she won, yes. Aside from foreign policy, her policies do not differ from Obama's in any significant way. The main difference is his ability to inspire people, which is actually a valuable gift for any leader. I don't think she would have been a particularly good VP candidate, however.

I don't even know if I can vote this year. I bet if Obama gets elected, he gets assassinated. If McCain gets elected, he dies in office and we have SARAH PALIN (who was oblivious to every supreme court case except roe vs wade) AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
Probably not the best contribution to the thread, but that's my 2¢.

Fixed. Remember to adjust for inflation next time.

Because he's not running? Good luck organizing a write-in campaign!

I wish you were right
I think there's some (not really any significant #) but definitely some who are that bent out of shape from primaries. Two girls I know said 'I really like Palin; she's a woman!' and I had to resist shooting myself. They were clinton-backers a few months ago. Fuck, my goddamned congressman's sister said she wasnt sure if she'd vote for Obama if Clinton didnt get it and shes a fucking Democrat!!

liked McCain till he chose palin.... Obama has stronger cab group and so i choose him (personally dislike obama very much)
honestly to me it's a loss loss situation... Hate Obama but if McCain wins and dies Palin is the president? u gotta be kiddin me... y not put my mom as the president, rofl she's a friggin soccer mom!

i do agree it's somewhat up to the student to succeed but the public schools i attended growing up were god awful. i had teachers who were completely incompetent and there was no order in the classroom whatsoever. i've had teachers tell me i was stupid and others who would do my homework for me so that when the principal looked at it (this teacher was in trouble with the school) it appeared that i was learning. It wasn't until i got sent to a private school that i got a real education and luckily got into a great college.
wswordsmen you need to watch the rest of the video if you think you're owning this up 7 mins in. i think the documentaries point about creating competition (but not like bushes no child left behind) is a good thing.
TimeShifter: most good universities are made of outstanding public school students (like savio's s tory), private school students, homeschooled students and outstanding students from other countries.
anyways i don't wana derail this thread any more.
How is this a derail? Education is a big component in this election. Our current system blows horsecock. Teachers teach to pass the fed's tests, not to enlighten kids. If I said that 1/3 of all high school teachers are competent, I'd probably be lying. Tenure is the worst fucking thing to happen ever, because it keeps retards in and keeps young, fresh ideas out.
And these federal mandates are ridiculous. We shouldn't even have them in the first place, but if we're gonna be stuck with this shit, why can't we get more than a drop in the bucket in aid? Oh, that's because all of it goes to the shitty abbott districts, which never get regulated and 'misplace' millions in aid annually. Education here—elementary, middle, highschool and college—all blow ass.

Our elementary schools are actually near the top and I'm not sure how you can criticize our colleges, besides the admission process. There's a lot of idiots that attend, but the schools are generally much more rigorous than many other modern countries and almost every state has an excellent, cheap public institution for those that wish to learn. Even community colleges have been improving dramatically over the past 10 years.
The math/science failure exists because of a shortage of qualified teachers for physical science, biology, algebra, geometry, etc. at the middle/highschool level. We don't need ridiculous testing standards like Japan or China, but there are way too many 'football coach' teachers in our schools.
Just out of curiosity, how many people here took US History from a sports coach?
My first Civics teacher was an unqualified idiot, but the rest of my teachers were actually pretty good. Junior year we were actually reading Howard Zinn as one of our textbooks.

All i know about history i learned when i got out of the school because the information they made us focus on were so bogus and in the end it was more of a menemonic test than anything else.
Next year, i couldnt remember shit
