Hmmm, I'm Canadian, but I guess I'll give you my input.
College currently attending: Waterloo University, ON Major: Honours Nanotechnology Engineering Year graduated high school: 2007 High School GPA (unweighted or weighted): This won't translate well, but I applied with a 94% average, and graduated with a 95% average. Stats (SAT/ SAT II/ AP scores/etc): I took one AP in high school (Calc: 5) because I liked Calc. My program ignores all APs when arranging courses so it didn't really matter anyway.
Things that you think helped give you the "edge" in getting in: Being a well-rounded person. I was heavily involved in school, academics, athletics, and even outside of school. More competitive programs most likely won't admit someone with just good grades, they want to see other things that show creativity, character, etc. (I probably wouldn't have got into my program without it, people have way better marks than me in my class.)
Things you wish you knew before college: I wish I were more intelligent and had a better study/work ethic. I was fairly lazy during my first year and I didn't get the ranking (they rank you in UW Engineering) I wanted. A good study habit is key. Also having sufficient cooking skills would help as well. Raw meat = dangerous o_!

wow, u guys work hard. this thread almost gives you an impression that tl.net is full of intelligent people. i'm pretty sure that many others are not posting theirs because it's crap compared to the regular college posters here. ours is probably worthless anyway. good job getting into ivy league schools guys. i envy you all.

College currently attending: University of Florida major/minor: Computer Science (Engineering) Year graduated high school: 2007 High School GPA (unweighted or weighted): 4.1 Weighted Stats (SAT/ SAT II/ AP scores/etc): 2210 SAT AP Physics C: Mechanics - 5 AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism - 4 AP Calculus AB - 5 AP Computer Science AB - 5 Things that you think helped give you the "edge" in getting in: National Merit Scholar + High SAT score Things you wish you knew before college: How to manage time and to be self-motivated.

John and Dai are too good >_<
College currently attending: UCLA Major: Physics, Math Year graduated high school: 2005 High School GPA (unweighted or weighted): 3.5 weighted (lol) Stats (SAT/ SAT II/ AP scores/etc): 1350, something like 750 SAT II Math, 650 SAT II Writing, 700 SAT II Bio. AP Physics 4, AP US History 4, AP Bio 3, AP Art Hist 3, AP Euro History 3, I forget if I took anymore, doesn't really matter anyways
Things that you think helped give you the "edge" in getting in: I actually transfered from UCR. As you can see, I was a really shitty student in high school, I would do well in classes that I liked (Physics) and I would get C's in classes I didn't like (Spanish, damn that class). I think senior year in high school I had a change of heart (for various reasons) and I decided I should at least try to do well in every class, but really by then it was kinda too late to improve for college. I promised to myself that I'd do better in college and I transferred.
Things you wish you knew before college: none, what's the fun if already knew everything?

College currently attending: UCLA major/minor Economics Year graduated high school: 2003. High School GPA (unweighted or weighted): 3.4 at a shitty high school. Hooray for apathy and Everquest addiction. Stats (SAT/ SAT II/ AP scores/etc): 1520/1600 on the SAT Things that you think helped give you the "edge" in getting in: I was very ill and opted for community college first. Things you wish you knew before college: Undergrad economics blows goats. If you are competent in math, opt for engineering or hard science.

BIG ASS SCHOLARSHIPS for students who help out the local/international community.) Things you wish you knew before college: That is was actually really expensive lol.

College currently attending: Purdue & Albion College major/minor: Industrial Engineering & Political Science/Philosophy Year graduated high school: 2004 High School GPA (unweighted or weighted): 3.6/4.0 Stats (SAT/ SAT II/ AP scores/etc): 1430 SAT/31 ACT. Calc BC: 4, AP English: 4 (the essay topic was stupid as fuck. The test is meaningless besides the free credits) Things that you think helped give you the "edge" in getting in: I visited all my schools and had good interviews. I also write incredible essays. Things you wish you knew before college: As you can see I transferred, essentially throwing away the first two years of college but I'm glad it did. The first thing I wish I had known was that the school's environment should be the most important factor for you as an undergrad. I don't think there would be a noticeable academic difference between attending UofM, Purdue, Berkley, Stanford, etc. Math is math and physics is physics and you're going to be taught the same things in all of those undergrad departments, so find the school that seems right for your social/living style (weather/hotgirls/SC scene/etc.) For me, Purdue was too fucking huge. I stupidly thought that I'd handle it because my highschool was big, but there's simply no comparison between highschool population (3,500) and college population (60,000.) I'm at a small school now with personal relationships with my professors and it's easy to get involved in activities. I've also matured quite a bit since I was 18, which brings me to my next point:
Don't assume college will be magically better than highschool. Nerds always tell themselves "things will be different!" but in reality, you'll still be stuck with a lot of idiots your first year or two. Even Harvard has legacy kids or people who just don't care about school. It really is what you make of it. You've got to work hard for things to be different, but you also need to make sure you're having fun and growing up outside of the classroom.

College currently attending: random community college in new jersey major/minor: philosophy Year graduated high school: 2008 High School GPA (unweighted or weighted): unweighted 0.4 weighted 1.1 Stats (SAT/ SAT II/ AP scores/etc): SAT 940/2400 Things that you think helped give you the "edge" in getting in: anyone gets in community college Things you wish you knew before college: should have studied..oh well

College currently attending: Heidelberg College major/minor: Political Science major, History minor Year graduated high school: 2007 High School GPA (unweighted or weighted): 3.8 unweighted
Stats (SAT/ SAT II/ AP scores/etc): 28 ACT loool, no SAT. I had no AP scores because AP courses weren't offered at my high school. I did, however, take 8 PSEO courses.
Things that you think helped give you the "edge" in getting in: Heidelberg isn't a hard school to get into. My GPA and even my ACT did wonders for my tuition though.
Things you wish you knew before college: I wish I knew how much writing I would be doing. I wrote more during my first semester of college than I did all throughout high school.

College: Harvey Mudd College major/minor: Probably chemistry, but i have a year to decide Graduated High School: 2008
I won't post my exact scores, but anyways they were good.
My edge: my heritage (a lot), Boy Scouts, Boys' State, Homecoming King (?)
Wish knew that getting the grade isn't always the greatest thing in school. Being average here is great, less pressure, tons of fun.

In my country, if you want pure Filipina beauty, people go to University of the Philippines or University of Santo Tomas.. If you want mixed race, go to Ateneo De Manila or La Salle.
