Now that Russia is tucking tail, let's do a recap:
1) Twitter commies have lost their entire whataboutism argument about "tHe WeSt"
2) Russia's military shown to be in complete shambles
3) Putin's inner circle shown to be incompetent and providing by info
4) Europe now on track to eliminate any and all need for Russian gas eventually
5) Russia's economy will take decades to recover
6) Zero benefit whatsoever

China are probably going to come up with an alternative to SWIFT but I’m curious to see how the ban plays out in Russia. Was a one time economic WMD because it was never meant to be weaponized in the first place and now it has been it’s so obviously OP that it requires geopolitical countermeasures to be taken.

Basically this. Inhaling or ingesting radioactive materials is harmful because the alpha particles (helium isotopes) bypasses your skin, which is your natural protection against that radiation. As others have said, it matters heavily on the dosage you get. There are larger bullets and bigger bombs in Ukraine that we should worry about first.

I would like to clarify that a bit, because while what you said is not incorrect, it may also be read incorrectly.
Alpha "radiation" consist of He4-cores, which, while technically a Helium isotope, is basically the standard Helium with the electrons stripped away. Alpha radiation is dangerous not because it is Helium, but because it is Helium at very high speeds. Those high-speed Helium cores leave a trail of destruction in matter when they ram through it and ionize stuff left and right. This is bad for you because it kills cells and may sometimes lead to mutation, namely cancer.
While our skin can generally deal with being hit with ionizing radiation better than the rest of our bodies, this is not our main protection against alpha radiation. Our main protection against alpha radiation is usually having more than 10 cm of air between us and the source of those high-speed helium cores. Because these are so reactive, alpha radiation gets almost completely absorbed in about 10 cm of air.
Bringing an alpha source directly in contact with your skin is not a good idea, because while your skin may be a bit better at dealing with ionizing radiation compared to the inside of your body, it is still not good with that. And, as you said, if you ingest a source of alpha, it is directly in contact with your body, and all that devastation by the high-speed Helium cores happens in your cells as opposed to in the air.

Europe needs at least five years to seriously reduce its dependence on Russian gas.

I stand corrected, clarified, and enlightened. Completely forgot about air and distance as the true barrier for protection against ionizing radiation, especially for alpha particles.

Currently Russia is not tucking tail. It's regrouping and bringing in more units from across the country (trains filled with mobile artillery units have been spotted moving west).
They are basically using any peace talks and ceasefires as a way to regroup since they were on the back foot (and all the while peace talks are going on their cruise missiles are hitting government buildings).

Russian will not be "tucking tail" until they achieved at least some goals. Maybe they have given up on Kiev and complete domination but the eastern and southern parts are still largely under Russian "control"
|
The upside is that it would mean Ukraine can also regroup and regain control over key areas, then potentially use this to start counter offensives towards Russia's new main targets. Seeing that they've already liberated several towns/cities, this appears to be the new direction of the war.

I thought voters had to decide NATO membership?

In Portugal the only party engaged in whataboutism arguments, and in reproducing Russian propaganda, was the Portuguese Communist Party. They've usually had between 4%-10% of the vote in previous elections, but this was the first time in a long time in Portuguese politics that foreign policy has come to the forefront, and they're getting destroyed. They have been tolerated by society thus far but this position has made them become hated by most people.

If this is to be believed the Russia MoD fooled Putin into thinking the operation in Ukraine is going well. As well the economic severity of the sanctions, so far.

What has happened already is that Chinese unionpay cards are getting issued and adopted by Russian banks to substitute Mcard and Visa. Its taking time, not every bank has it yet, but its happening slowly but surely. With these cards people would be able to spend the money abroad.
Mcard and visa dont work in Europe since march 9, but they still work in Russia. Many banks just made current visa/mcard cards permanent without expiry dates.
Swift exclusion was done only for 7-12 banks if i recall correcly, so technically you still can transfer the money from any other bank russian bank, BUT russian government has basically made it impossible to do with counter sanctions for russian citizens which are:
1. If you had fx money on bank account you cant take out more than 10k usd, the rest you can get in roubles 2. You can’t transfer usd/eur to anyone but yourself (including your foreign bank account if proven) with 5k usd limit 3. You can’t physically take more than 10k usd out of russia if you leave the country.
Maybe there were more, but these 3 already basically make any transactions impossible to do

So it appears MI6 has an agent in Putin's inner circle or at lest in the High command of the Russian military.

We already knew the US or a close ally had someone in the room where the decision was made because Biden was announcing the Russian orders had been given before they even made it down the Russian chain of command. There were photos of Putin issuing the order released that Russia claimed were the day of the public declaration but were dated to the previous week. If I recall correctly Biden said the decision had been made hours after the meeting in which Putin was photographed. Anyone watching CNN knew the same as the very highest level of Russian command and far more than the rest of the Russian command structure.

Hours later, the Kremlin appeared to defuse the standoff by detailing a plan that would allow Berlin or other European customers to keep paying in euros. The plan was relayed by Mr. Putin in a telephone call with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, according to statements released late Wednesday by the German government and by the Russian state news agency, Tass.
In the call, Mr. Putin said that a new Russian law requiring gas deliveries to be settled in rubles would go into effect April 1. But “payments would continue to be made exclusively in euros and transferred as usual to Gazprom Bank, which is not affected by the sanctions,” according to a statement from Mr. Scholz’s office summarizing the call. “The bank would then convert the money into rubles.”

Isn't getting outside currency far more valuable to russia than getting rubles, which they can print themselves?
IIRC during the soviet era, the eastern block countries were always all about getting dollars and DM and stuff like that. Why does Putin now absolutely want to get rubles?

It makes no sense, which is why Putin is already walking back. It was likely just strong man rhetoric targeted at the domestic audience to shore up some confidence in the ruble.
