Hell yeah. I've been a little dismayed at the "god cant we just not" I've seen on certain parts of Twitter, so I look forward to trying to counteract that!

Agreed.

The fight against Trump has ended.

The fight against Biden begins now.

What about working together, no?

I mean, at that point every piece if legislation that is in Biden program goes in the right direction, and it looks like the story will be that he will have to fight like hell to pass anything at all with ninja turtle blocking everything.

You don't want a green new deal, increased progressive taxation on the wealthy, a better minimal salary and so on? Ok, then fight Biden.

Progressive should push Biden to do as much as possible and fight the moderate in the next primaries.

Pushing Biden IS a fight, his platform doesn't matter, what he does it what matters, words don't mean shit from politicians like Biden, and probably ANY politician in America who isnt basically Bernie Sanders.

Noone should presume Biden has intentions to do much of anything without us all fighting to make him do it.

Democrats should not be trusted, they haven't even kind of earned it.

100%. Most democrats love the "obstructionist republicans", it lets them vote when it doesn't matter to look good. When the chips are actually down, like when democrats had the senate/house under Obama, the public option wasn't added specifically because of democrat infighting. I won't believe a single word of Biden's "platform" unless it's enacted.

you mean the far right dip shits?

Pretty sure he included those too, but he didn't misspoke. Far left dipshits is correct.

I think the question is whether people that identified he's lost a step or few over the last decade or so are supposed to be included in the critique.

Because that'd include people from Andrea Mitchell to Corey Booker to Julian Castro.

Retreating to “technically worse than earlier in his life” is nonsense with how many people were saying well beyond that. Democrats slinging mud during a primary is stupid too. Plenty of asshats both here and on various other websites, such as Bernie themed subreddits, all convinced themselves he had late stage dementia. It was dog shit. Anyone who watches Biden’s speech tonight is not able to say there is anything remotely worrying about his mental condition.

My point is that desperate, pathetic mud slinging needs to be remembered for what it was. We need to remember who said a bunch of stupid shit and which communities encouraged it. Then we need to rub their faces in it.

I can't help but feel that you're strawmanning someone really hard right now. Looking back at the various US Pol / debate threads, I see plenty of references to "cognitive decline" in the abstract, "early-stage dementia" in the more specific, or just general talk about mental state, but that's a whole world of difference from what you're claiming they said now. You may want to be more specific if you have people who you think said that he has "late stage dementia" - a very pointed and aggressive accusation that goes well beyond any of the general claims a lot of people made about potential mental decline. Because there's little evidence that the latter was claimed by a large contingency of "dumb far left dip shits" and one well-spoken speech hardly refutes any of the former claims.

So yeah, put up or shut up. This whole thing reeks of deep hypocrisy in that it so very harshly criticizes an attitude that you yourself are very guilty of.

Yeah, that's what I remember. I have no idea what the Bernie themed subreddits were like, but I also wouldn't consider Bernie folks far left.

I remember you calling Biden a senile rapist during the primary, but whatever.

Losing in 2024 would be allowing Biden to get away with doing fuck all.

Nah, we push him to make changes, we organize the whole time. Grass roots organization, hard work like what happened to flip Georgia and make their Senate races go to a runoff.

Work.

Not, "Bidens pres guess we win lul games over GG"

American politics isn't one vote every four years, its a mistake Democrats have been making for far too long.

Maybe changing your vocabulary from "fight", which is a term that alienates people for obvious reasons, maybe try push?

Honestly if i immediately see the "left" eat itself (again), i will lose it.

If I thought it would only take pushing I'd use the word, but the DNC has proven it will take fighting to promote progressive policy.

Example, Chuck Schumer VERY clearly afraid of the upcoming primary he'll be fighting if he doesnt promote progressive policy.

So much for assuming good faith, hm?

I see no more reason to assume Biden is not interested in implementing his platform than to say Sanders wasn't either. Obama and his administration fought like madmen to get stuff like the ACA to pass and survive.

It's weird, it's like some people have built an image of those people that is backed by little to no fact where they are some sinister villains lying about their true motives while stroking cats at the top of some super lair.

I agree the left has to fight for its platform. But the main fight is the fight to do anything at all, and it's far from won.

Assuming good faith from your politicians is a bad move, especially when we've seen that politicians in the US dont deserve good faith. If Bernie had the kind of record Biden had I'd be calling him full of shit too, but Bernie has voted ahead of the curve on issues, Biden has to have the curve meet him and even then he cautiously side eyes it.

The only genuine interest I think he has is to try and create a coalition government between Democrats and Republicans and that sounds AWFUL to me because what it means when Democrats and Republicans collaborate is Republicans fuck it all up.

He's not a sinister villain, hes an untrustworthy politician with a history of lies, he's not any different from the vast majority of American politicians, he doesnt get trust he hasn't earned, thats now how this works.

I think most of everyone here is right that we'll have to push/fight the dems to get things done and just running and winning isn't enough (though I hope we end up being somewhat wrong about that).

That said, I'm holding out hope for Georgia to give us at least one if not both senate spots so Dems can't just say they're being stonewalled by the GOP. I realllly want to see student loan forgiveness with an EO.

So the idea is that you have to fight Biden even though you agree with his platform (that anyway is probably beyond what can be done without the senate) because you believe that he doesn't want to do anything in his platform and in fact has the agenda of doing nothing because he is a liar and all politicians are unless they are Sanders.

Ok.

Yes, okay.

I mean GOD FORBID we look at Biden's LONG LONG political career to exam his historic priorities, by all means, lets all take politicians at their word!

btw, I have 1000 dollars to give you, just wire 5000 dollars to my bank account and my nigerian prince friend will hook you up!

What in the WORLD have politicians done in your world to earn this much trust from you?

Biden lied several times just during this campaign, it is unreasonable to take him at his word, besides that it's generally inadvisable with any politician.

Here is an idea: progressives should help Biden and work with him to implement his platform while keeping a watchful eye, hold him accountable and fight him if necessary if he doesn't push for policies that improve the situation of the country. And of course prepare 2022 and 2024 with their own platform and ideas.

That's what political allies are for. Helping AND be ruthlessly critical when need be. Good thing is that it will provide progressives with lots of leverage because he actually need them to do anything at all.

Of course it's more fun to be edgy than constructive, and I don't want to be a party pooper. Other good thing is that this is exactly what progressive politicians are doing because luckily they are smart people.
