To quote the great Malcolm Tucker it’s an omnishambles. Far as I can tell basically it’s either, details pending he did have a legitimate exemption which, while unpopular was within his rights to come play, and the government flipped under public outrage to reverse this. Or, he didn’t initially have a legitimate exemption and they bent the rules, only reverting to correct practice after outcry. Both crude framings really are not a good look. I feel a bit bad for the guy, despite him being an idiot in this area. Serb fans levels of martyring him are utterly bonkers though. I’d not feel bad for him if he’d been outright banned from competing in this tournament, but being told he could, flying in, having that reversed and at the centre of a big media storm is pretty shitty

After Christmas got absolutely slammed last year, this year has been pretty nice, even though most social events outside close family was cancelled. Curiously, we would certainly have caught COVID if they were not.

I’d not feel bad for him if he’d been outright banned from competing in this tournament, but being told he could, flying in, having that reversed and at the centre of a big media storm is pretty shitty i actually think the root of this farce is quite simple. tennis australia cleared djokovic to play in their tournament, as is their right, but the idiots at the top lacked the foresight to think that djokovic had a separate set of rules he had to abide by, being border control. if they had not missed this point, then they would have made sure that the requirements to receive an exemption to play were identical to the requirements to enter the country. however because they were stupid, they made their own set of rules and probably just forgot entirely about the fact that djokovic may still be rejected at the border. now you have tennis australia, the victorian government and the federal government all going back and forth saying its not their problem or "rules are rules" because a few dumbasses failed to provide a disclaimer to djokovic that his exemption to play in the tournament is not an exemption to enter the country.

My neighbourhood as a whole is in rough shape. Pretty much 100% of 12+ has first dose, and 98% of 12+ are fully vaccinated. In the last week of testing, 50% of tests in my neighbourhood are positive. The gov't is encouraging everyone who is fully vaccinated, and not in a high risk category to just stay home and rest, unless symptoms are severe so it's about as bad as it gets I think, hopefully the wave peaks soon.

Maybe federal and state laws in Australia is more convoluted, but getting federal approval for international travel is really common sense.

Similar situation for me before Christmas, we were days away from booster. But our symptoms were super mild, both my partner and I had a sore-ish throat for a week and a runny nose for two days, that was about it. Since then I'm feeling hopeful that we will see the "end of the beginning" of this pandemic in 2022.

Good luck, I'm confident you will be fine. If you do get it let us know how it goes. I had OG covid before vaccination (wife teacher brought home) and it kicked my ass far more than hers. And then each vaccination and booster has been the same. For me it was nothing in the lungs but for a full week I was awful, so tired I couldn't do anything, I was absolutely freezing but sweating buckets. I had the heat in the room over 30 and I was still chilled to the bone. There was days on either side of that week where I also felt bad and it was maybe a month total before I felt good. With each Vax and now my booster was really strange, the next day I felt like I had covid maybe 80% as bad, but it lasted only 24 hours and then I was fine. I'm curious is you will get a weaker version or if maybe it will suck but for a short period of time! Good luck either way, I hope you get to be the asymptomatic kind! ![]() Thanks Jimmi I got some good news today. In BC it's pretty impossible to get a test unless you're truly desperate and sick (3+ hour lineup for test/rapid test). My sister who was staying with us flew home the day after to Ontario and the day after (Jan. 6) had all classic flu symptoms (body ache, fever, etc), so our assumption was covid. She managed to secure a rapid test today, and both her and BF (both with similar symptoms) are negative. I know they're not 100%, and some have lower efficacy at testing for Omicron, but there's still hope that I dodged the bullet and don't have covid yet. I'm sure I'll be fine given my age (late 20s), but definitely nice to have some hope.

It's funny really, last year I had thought think that if it turned out none of the vaccines worked, the Lex-Luthor-uses-his-powers-for-good play would have been to engineer something like omicron that's a bit safer but stratospherically infectious and just let it outcompete the others. Turns out nature had it covered. Maybe if we start calling it a live, unattenuated vaccine, the bleach crew might discover masks and help ride it out.

It is funny how we have so many examples of omicron being insane etc and then we also have this hilarious anecdote.

No idea how she got it. Neither her husband not my wife's sister have tested positive even though they were together indoors a lot. Maybe that's what the booster (father in law) or getting OG covid and two shots (sister in law) do for you? Many friends, some with mild, some without symptoms who were planning to fly home for Christmas couldn't due to positive pre flight PCR tests. I talked with a positive person face to face for maybe 10 minutes, albeit outside, but never tested positive. A friend who helped said person renovate the flat did so. I was low-key hoping for something like Omicron. Fingers crossed the side effects are milder and shorter.
