Eh it's not really a big deal.

Some nice books: The other end of the Leash Don't shoot the dog Some random tips sine you seem to take some advice here: - consulting a specialist in dogs near you when you start can help a lot, and it might identify issues the dog already has, since you mentioned hitting it for instance. - If you have difficulties teaching your dog to walk nicely, and like to run with it as welll, try using a different harness/leash for different purposes. The dog will then better be able to not expect a nice run when you put on its every day "walk nicely" leash/harness/collar. Its equally fun to watch the exitement when you put on the harness for exercise. You don't have to switch all of the gear, we just put on a special scarf for finding chantrells for instance. - Teaching a dog new behaviour and getting rid of unwanted behavior is extremely difficult if you can't "train" your family to do the right things. - If you are using positive reinforcement (as you should), you need to establish an order, where you find out what treats are most valuable for your dog. The same with toys and what activites it likes the most. Save these for moments when the dog has had a breakthrough in training, or you need to have something "special". - even if you use positive reinforcement, you will need to have a "stop" command, to tell your dog to stop doing whatever its doing. It can be a smart thing for this word not to be "stop" or its name. rather use another word you don't say as much, and you don't usually say when annoyed. its explained in many books and courses how to do this. - don't give your dog chokolade, it is toxic and may harm or kill a dog even with small amounts every day. - if your dog is chaotic you need to be the calm one. Corrrections, hitting it and shouting at a dog may even increase the misbehaving from your dog. On the other hand, ignoring it when misbehaving, and removing it from the source, or even giving it a timeout in the most boring part of your appartement, can in the long run get rid of it. These things require knowledge and patience, and i would have a dog trainer help me get started. If you don't like trainers, courses or whatever, books can be a good place to start.

Some tips: -Use dog food instead of treats to reward the dog. They take anything given to them by hand as a treat and will be happy to receive anything from you. - Carry some food EVERYWHERE you go with the dog. Any time the dog obeys give it a treat. For example on walks take a handful of food with you. When the dog is good and stays close feed it some food (treats!). Do this a lot to reinforce that staying with you is good. -Make up a mean voice that you will ALWAYS use to scold the dog. Never hit him, but point and use a stern voice. Don't yell or scare it, just make sure it understands that it has been bad. Remember, the tone of your voice counts more than what you say. With my dog I can say "YOU'VE BEEN A GREAT DOG ALL DAY I LOVE YOU" in the mean voice and it still is scolding. - Work on things one at a time, the dog is not going to learn everything at once. For example start with just people skills (if your dog barks when people arrive/leave). Have a friend walk in and out of the house. Tell the dog to be quiet in the stern voice, and give it some food if it is. Work on this for a week or so until it's got that down, then move on to behaving on walks, coming when you tell it etc..... (it's really easy to teach a dog to come). THEN AFTER you have taught your dog these things you should begin extra training like "Sit, bark, roll over" and stuff. There are tons of resources on the internet too. Dogs are pretty smart animals, you just have to know how to work with them and not against them.
