Depending on whether or not they mean that biologically, that might be a reasonable use (note "male and female" rather than "Men and Females") To relate it to the chess thing, FIDE doesn't allow trans women (or "female-identifying" as liquipedia problematically refers to them) to be included under "female" participants, but I suspect your work would (they could be like the 2016 Democrats at my convention I mentioned and not though lol)? I mean, Wombat did not refer to women as females which is what kicked this off? That's a weird response, but no, it's not what "kicked this off".

In high school I remember reading a book from some christian dudes who 'became homeless' for a year in a variety of cities as a journey / social experiment for themselves. It strikes me as similar - you can't say there's NO implicit transition and related struggle, but you also would be insane to consider it the same as them having developed the insecurity, instability, mental illness, and/or drug use associated with actually becoming homeless.
If there were no struggle associated with changing my pronouns to they/them, I probably would. Currently (perhaps similar to you?) I'm content with he/him/his as I've grown up that way and present masculine, so it'd feel dishonest and unnecessarily confusing to others for me to 'transition'. It'd me be taking on and providing extra social burden, so I need sufficient motivation to do that, and I don't have it.
TBH the most honest/awesome answer I've ever had when asking a nonbinary/genderqueer person their pronouns was "All", which made me go "...wait, you can do that?"

Well I didn't say "typical for a man to think that way", I said one should be introspective about being a born winner in a system where there are also losers. Billionaires also think capitalism works great, but that doesn't mean capitalism is the best possible system. For the record I'm also a cisgender man.

You have made abundantly clear that this is your feelings. But the end game for what you asking for is just one professional sports league and there will not be any women, cis or otherwise. I do not see that as a win.
Please, spare me these pointless anecdotes, I promise you I can counter them all. Let's talk about real sports leagues where the inclusion of trans women has never once resulted in the complete subjugation of cisgender women. The most significant case study transphobes point to is a trans woman tying for fifth place a wholeass one (1) time.

I don't know if this is supposed to be some vague satire, but people don't object to "female" as an adjective. The objectionable behavior is using "females" as a noun, as if women are some kind of lab specimen and not human beings.

You evidently don't trust the cisgender women that have been arbitrarily gatekept from women's sports because of flawed methods that were supposed to "only" target trans women. You also don't trust women who have been warning about Republicans trying to institute genitalia inspections for kids using the exact same reasoning.
I don't know why you would simultaneously call it populist garbage but also imply it's a fringe minority opinion, those are contradictory accusations.
And again, I don't know why you're acting like my position has been unclear, I've explicitly said numerous times women's sports should exist, and trans women are women and should be included in them. Despite all of the trans panicking people have done about this as an excuse to vote Republican, they have yet to find even a single example of the women (whom you claim to trust) being harmed by trans inclusion.

Professional sports and youth sports are two totally different things and need to be handled differently.
When you have to stoop to strawmanning my position and ignoring the actual questions I pose it says a lot more about your position then mine. And mine is actually malleable, if I heard a coherent, logical argument. It’s not like this is some long agreed about thing, it’s relatively new and something worth discussing and getting right.
Something your not interested in because you seem to have read to many Facebook posts or something riling you up and turning off the problem solving part of your brain.

No strawmen here. I've never said you support Republican attempts to institute children's genitalia inspections, only pointing out that women have been warning that it's the natural terminus of going to any lengths possible to exclude trans people.

That's funny, Facebook posts seem to be the only source for trans women somehow harming cisgender women by participating in sports together.
We're much closer to a world where genital inspections (ostensibly to punish trans people, but the Venn diagram of transphobes and pedophiles is alarmingly close to a circle) are commonplace than one where people change genders just to win at sports, my opinion is we ought to prioritize our concerns accordingly.

I don't think there are problems. Many women's sports are currently trans inclusive without issue, and even more were before the rise of the far-right last decade. Their rage is built on mostly fake news with a dashing of what-ifs that have never come true.
There were people who raged when black athletes started winning championships after sports leagues were desegregated, and many of the dubious arguments about biological advantage were raised then too.
This GLAAD page puts it well:
"Women and girls face significant barriers in sports that have nothing to do with transgender inclusion: inequitable facilities, pay, and marketing; abusive coaches; and racist, sexist, and homophobic harassment. Ask critics of transgender inclusion what efforts they have made to resolve real issues harming women and girls in sports.
Sports bans endanger all female players by encouraging baseless, false allegations and discriminatory, invasive screening.
Sex verification testing, which is being pushed by opponents of transgender people who say bans on sports participation are not enough, could cost schools and leagues anywhere from $1,000 to $15,000+ per athlete. Opponents have not explained where funding for these invasive tests would come from." https://glaad.org/fact-sheet-for-reporters-transgender-participation-in-sports/

Sounds like in the WNBA taking it case by case makes a lot of sense to keep the abusers out. And not get used as political pawns. There official rule is only players who are women can play.
|
I don't oppose something like a minimum time lapse between a declaration of gender transitioning and being able to participate in women's leagues. There are a small number of obvious bad faith actors but they'll get their way if they're used as an excuse for complete trans exclusion.

But instead we bringing in the complexity because some people self identify as another sex while unable to define it, and then transitioning into the social construct of that sex.
People who self identify as trans are already falling off. Well, only in specific rich nations in the West. Much for the world never caught on with the trend, give it a few more years and this will all be less and less of an issue

By taking a complicated subject and ignoring all the factors that make it complicated you invite only bad answers which is, of course, the purpose of the bad faith question. Answer it in your context then. You don't need to specify you want h2o for getting water in a restaurant and then suing them for bringing in water with impurities. But instead we bringing in the complexity because some people self identify as another sex while unable to define it, and then transitioning into the social construct of that sex. People who self identify as trans are already falling off. Well, only in specific rich nations in the West. Much for the world never caught on with the trend, give it a few more years and this will all be less and less of an issue Why are you suing restaurants?

Have you ever noticed the number of left-handed people started mysteriously rising after it stopped being socially acceptable to spank kids for doing things with their left hands?

The fact that it seems to be working perfectly fine for you and you don't see any reason to change it, whereas women and trans people of every gender are constantly trying to vocalize the innumerable ways society has made life unnecessarily harder for them, should be a cause for introspection. In what ways are women not benefiting from sports being split by gender? Wasn’t getting women’s professional sports a big deal? It was to all the women I know. Not when trans women are gatekept out of them for irrational and inconsistent cries of "biology". So if it’s not perfect than it’s shit, you’re sounding like some one else around here. All people of all genders are allowed in “men’s” sports. Trans women are women and should compete in women's sports. Gatekeeping based off arbitrary biological factors hurts cis and trans women alike. I've made this abundantly clear over the dozens of posts I made about the subject. And the point here is that because people insist on an arbitrarily gendered society, these conflicts are inevitable. If you want to say you don't care, then fine. But don't moralize "it works fine for me and I don't care about those for whom it doesn't work" into "therefore it's a good system". Women’s sports is a misnomer. They’ve never been open to all women, a better name might be non men sports. What is a man Great angle in plain sight, he doesn't know the answer to that one either. It’s a bad faith question. The answer varies significantly on the context. For example you’re not a man. By taking a complicated subject and ignoring all the factors that make it complicated you invite only bad answers which is, of course, the purpose of the bad faith question. "Varies," not impossible. "Significantly" = reality-warpingly dubious. The answer can be as extensive as you feel you need to explain what a man is, but if you can't even manage the simple questions there's no hope for you on anything more complicated.
