They establish that name-changing is already accepted and prevalent and that names do evolve.
No two situations are exactly equivalent which is why I brought some more into the fold for context. Pointing at each individual one and going "This is not the exact same" missed the point. They are relevant for being name changes, made through legal processes.

It's also not much of a checkmate because I also disagree with renaming streets using characters I cannot even read like upside down numbers. I generally think you should be able to parse a name from its letters and plain spellings of indigenous names is perfectly serviceable and have been used for generations (Tsawwassen, Cowichan, Nanaimo, Comox) rather than using the unreadable hieroglyphs the nerds in the linguistics department cooked up for themselves. As neither are indigenous lettering (none of the groups had any as far as I've seen) and as they both use letters inherited from Carolingian minuscule both would be equally 'colonial' or 'imperial' or 'oppressive' or 'respectful' or 'honouring' no matter what rubric you use.
And I strongly disagree with the ahistorical and broad-sweeping smear jobs on people like Ryerson.

Like if you have a view of something like Trump ramped up tariffs on Canada too early before CUSMA was over even if Trump thought the the US trade deficit with Canada disadvantaged the US too much. That would make sense. That's a fair basic framework. But that wouldn't cause a fallthrough now because those issues are months old.
