Why is a ‘fuck you’ in response in any way surprising?

DOGE found a building rented from the government but no listed users or info on it. Promptly attempted to sell it for efficiency.
It was a CIA black site.

The Genius behind Canada's incredible rise and incredible success was the ability to negotiate deals with anybody.. any where... any how. Hell Pierre Trudeau was cooking up deals with Cuba and the Soviet Union in the 70s. Canadian leadership has lost this ability.
Its sad man. I hate seeing Toronto in the state that it is in.

I think Democrats are "best friends" with much of Canada's political leadership. Problem is, that is only half the country. Who wanted the Korean War again? in 1950 North Korea crossed the 38th parallel. So, I'd say the North Koreans wanted the war. Both the USA and Canada helped defend South Korea. The USA contributed 1000X as much as Canada though. Since WW2 Canada has slowly lowered the fulfillment of its military obligations. the 1950 Korean war was the start of that decline. This angers Republicans and makes them lose respect for Canada. And again, Canadians have lost the ability to be best friends with Republicans. We're seeing that play out on the world stage. Ok well you ignored all the other stuff I said, quelle surprise.
They haven’t lost the ability, they’ve lost the will. Outside of pragmatic compromise who wants to be best friends with unreliable cunts?
Why not just be vaguely neutral and play the various hands you’re dealt?

Not helping in Iraq was the best Canadians did and you should be proud of it. With not arresting Osama, Afganistan declared themselves supporter of ibn Ladin's personal Jihad against America and bombing them for it was a fair response. Besides, they already had civil war themselves and attaking them changed nothing for worse. But bombing Iraq was another thing. To this day I am ashamed for what my goverment did that days, and my only relief was I was against joining this "adventure" from the start. If the West "forgot" to overthrow Hussain in first Gulf War (when they should), they shouldn't trying it by themselves later unless Saddam didn't gave good and legitimate justification. Suddenly USA and allies became the aggresors in the eyes of the third world and Iraquis, plunged themselves into never ending wars and destabilised entire region for foreseeable future. Worse, completely innocent states like France became guilty by association in the eyes of radicals. If USA wanted friends to do something, they got what they wanted. In Afghanistan Canada did their part. Recent clashes with Pakistan shows that Afghan Talibs learned absolutely nothing from past events and remain being fanatic shits. Meantime, Iraq became another Afghanistan. Canada did nothing wrong with not participating in iraqui "adventure".

Quick question before I go back to lurking.
Does anyone else think the dual personality posting from GH a bit...much? I'm refraining from calling it insane, but it's like...nothing in the meat of the responses has changed. It's still the same moral high horse with a tiny bit of self-reflection on their errors leading up to the election. Still a ton of verbal abuse towards those that have been talking about this stuff for a while.
I'd think the non-engagement from people would be a hint, especially from KwarK, but it seems that they've doubled down on this idiotic notion. Is it just me?

That is unbelievably funny, made funnier only by the fact that I cant even begin to tell if its true or not given the raw, unrefined, unadulterated stupidity involved in making that decision lmao. They also posted a list of all other sites they found that met the same criteria.
The GSA published the list on Tuesday and pulled it down the next day. Before the full list of 443 properties was removed, more than 120 properties had already been quietly scrubbed, including 14 buildings that did not appear to be listed in the Inventory of Owned and Leased Properties, a comprehensive public database of GSA holdings. https://www.wired.com/story/gsa-sale-cia-facility/
We know that at least one site on the list was a CIA black site because it was already known to some people as an open secret. But every property owned by the GSA that met the same criteria as this CIA black site was also listed for sale at the same time.
This is why move fast and break things isn't appropriate for government. Normally a junior employee would find the lease and go "this is odd" and take it to their boss. Their boss would go "yeah, I thought it was odd when I was new here too. But we know what it is and when you're the supervisor I'll let you know" and that'd be that.
But DOGE just publish the whole list of properties that meet the same criteria as CIA black sites online.

Still a ton of verbal abuse towards those that have been talking about this stuff for a while.
I'd think the non-engagement from people would be a hint, especially from KwarK, but it seems that they've doubled down on this idiotic notion. Is it just me?
I think it's hard for us to read a lot of posters in a new light. If Jimmy started posting under a conscious secondary personality that wasn't an incorrect twat, a lot of us would truly struggle to read him differently.
That said, I'd say there's no harm in engaging Libhorizons directly and seeing if there's anything meaningfully different, and how they actually plan to use electoralism to forward their goals. I don't see it as harmful, just a bit odd. Not a 'different GH', just one that in fairness tried to pivot away from "Democracy has failed, electoralism will never work" to "What is our plan within democracy to defend from imminent fascism?"
That's my take, anyways.

I still contend that arguing on the internet, hey it all adds up in aggregate. I’d contend that you don’t have the flavour of modern politics that we do have without millions engaging in just that, for better, or often worse.
Obviously, one must do other shit, absolutely that’s more important. But I think just ceding that ground and letting people spout bollocks is also not a great call.
And hey, sometimes catharsis can be cathartic. It is an easy trap to fall into constantly seeking it to the expense of other things, but hey some folks need a bit of a morale boost, however small.

I think GH's impersonation of some generic liberal is a decent one - if all of his posts were written by some new TL user, then I wouldn't really think anything of it - although I'm not entirely sure if that persona adds anything new to the conversation (certainly not in the same way that GH's real posts add a new perspective).
I kind of see it as redundant and I kind of see it as weird, but I also don't think it's a terrible strawman. I agree with some of what he says as a liberal, and I disagree with some of what he says as a liberal. That's just me though; I don't really care if he roleplays, as long as he doesn't project all of his liberal statements onto everyone else and assume that he's going to perfectly mimic everyone else's beliefs all the time.

I don't think the Trump administration quite gets how hard it is to re-start a lab once your good people leave. You build your team over a timeframe of years, and while you can plan to replace people as they finish, sudden losses with no replacement hit hard. This is particularly dumb because one of the reasons America is ahead technologically is due to all of the excellent research done at US universities. I guarantee I will not be the only academic heading back home, the funding situation is too uncertain.

Trump administration cancels $400m in funds to Columbia University
That's a lot of labs running out of funding at the same time.

Yeah, but there are leftists at universities who don't like Trump.
Remember, anything is always about partisan politics. There is nothing else.

Do this lot ever do like, reviews and assessments or reports and recommendations?
I have to resist the urge to, at this point go ‘if they claim something, it’s bollocks’ just reflexively. Oh they say there were problems with anti-Semitism on colleges, well there must not have been any!
From memory there were some legitimate failings there right, but not as endemic as claimed?
It just feels an obvious trojan horse to justify shutting down college students protesting well, basically anything.
The idea this lot actively care about tackling anti-Semitism when they’ve embraced Elon Musk who hasn’t just failed to tackle it on his platform, but stopped even trying, it’s utter hogwash.

I found a man who deserves zero sympathy:
U.S. citizen detained by ICE questions vote for Trump: 'Just following Hispanic people' A Virginia man said he was driving to work Wednesday with two other men near his home in Virginia when he was stopped by ICE agents with guns in their hands. A naturalized Virginia resident said he's questioning his vote for President Donald Trump after agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained him this week when they were looking for another person on a deportation order. ... An agent then asked Machado how did he get into the U.S. and if he was awaiting a court date or if he had a pending immigration case. ... Machado said the experience shook his faith in Trump's immigration enforcement efforts. “I was a Trump supporter,” he said. “I voted for Trump last election." Machado said he thought the Trump administration would "just go against criminals, not every Hispanic looking, like, that they will assume that we are all illegals.” “That’s what they’re doing, now,” Machado said. “They’re just following Hispanic people.” https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/us-citizen-hispanic-detained-ice-questions-vote-trump-rcna195406
Trump literally campaigned on attacking every brown person in sight, whether they were legal or illegal residents. Vance totally fabricated the accusation that brown people *who were in the country legally* were stealing and eating people's pets. What the heck did this brown-skinned Republican think would happen to him?
