Some of mine show you what at least intermittent schizophrenia can look like. I hope you never see those. You never really know when you‘re in a phase though. I think in his case that‘s just being American - Canadian and attempting to see Trump as a rational actor. These threads have been more educational to me than the rot on various other websites which I was vulnerable for. My rule of thumb is, if someone is talking bollocks, they’re just talking bollocks. If I can’t understand what the fuck someone is even talking about to ascertain if it’s bollocks or not, maybe they’re having a bad time. Yer there yourself and have to spend a pretty sizeable time living amongst folks having a very bad time mentally, you get the radar for it. Hope I never see it too! In this case the bollocks are that Jimmy is a Trump apologist who is a bit hesitant about displaying it, rightfully so. I haven‘t seen anything he (Trump) did make sense save early on when I fell a bit for his persona and thought he could be a positive force. All I see now is someone turn an already shitty climate to the worse and being proud of it. I‘m not sure how to unfuck the US. You could airdrop history books over it or bags of cocaine. Maybe both to speed up the reading. To clarify my point, some folks are just idiots, some are pricks. The rest, probably a higher number it’s just cognitive dissonance. Something we all suffer from as humans, but some more than others.
If you’re chatting with someone who’s schizophrenic and not managing it well, or has some other condition and is undergoing a psychotic episode, the problem isn’t that their arguments are shit, the problem is that you can’t even figure out what the argument is, to slightly rephrase my earlier point.
Anyhoof, don’t wanna derail too much. I’m nae a massive fan of attributing certain trends to certain mental health conditions. Most of which are ultimately pretty niche. And indeed by themselves aren’t predictive of having shitty fucking politics. Personal bugbear perhaps, that’s on me!
I think a problem you’re seeing now is take a bit of regular human frailty. Take Donald Trump, who’s as diagnostically cookie cutter a case of narcissism you’ll ever see, and he’s only remotely atypical because he’s not good at hiding it, indeed he doesn’t really try. Then take that first cohort not remotely caring that he’s obviously a narcissist and indeed actively encouraging it and it’s a fucking toxic stew.
And gotta say, fucked if I know what to do about that either.
Someone in the thread, or the Ukraine one made a good point that while Zelenskyy isn’t a god among mere mortals, he’s actually the kind of leader that people say they admire. But yet a decent chunk of the MAGA crowd despise the lad.

There are just too many other fires to put out. I'd imagine most candidates will be making a case on how they're going to unfuck America, not how they're going to help Palestine. That boat already sailed and those people thought that letting Trump through was a better outcome. LibHorizons: That's part of why it's absolutely critical to establish what "unfuck America" means, who can be trusted to do it, how to measure success, and how to hold people accountable for failure. We needed it weeks ago and every second we don't have it helps Trump. Without establishing that, "unfuck America" is just meaningless rhetoric to rationalize voting for/supporting the (former) status quo that gave us Trump, which seems to be what most libs/Dems/ilk here actually want. If anyone has a better start/idea/plan than me for how to "unfuck America", I'm desperate to hear it. If not (as it seems is the case), you all should be supporting the ideas I presented unless/until you come up with/find something better. I don't disagree that we need a plan. + Show Spoiler +All I am saying is that Gaza is not going to be on the ballot. There probably won't even be a Gaza by then. LibHorizons: Let's focus on the plan then? Does it have your support or do you have something better to offer? That question is for anyone that is going to have any advice for voters when voting time comes. No lib/Dem/ilk really has a sensible reason not to answer that question in a reasonable time. Not for me, for themselves. Oh, I'm on board with the New Green Deal and Medicare for all. I'd be all for pushing forward the Bernies and the AOCs -- in US terms I'm a rabid leftist radical. I also think that it's better to pay a bit more tax and have social services that allow everyone to succeed and not only those from privileged backgrounds. It's not me you need to convince. It's your fellow Americans that thought that a dude taking a knee in the middle of a football game was one step too far. The way I'd go about this is to try to craft a positive message around issues that benefit the majority of the country, i.e. medicare for all, and not demonise people that wanted to stop Trump ascending to the throne as genocide supporters/enablers. You are not changing anyone's mind by telling them how shit they are -- neither Trump voters, nor genocide-enabling Democrat voters. LibHorizons: Happy to have your support for the plan? Or are you saying that we shouldn't be identifying who needs to be primaried and how we're honestly/fairly measuring that?
I'm not particularly trying to change minds here. I'm trying to get libs/Dems/ilk to align our actions with our rhetoric so we can accomplish our ostensibly shared goals. Right now that means working through the plan so that there are "Bernies and AOCs" to push/vote for. Not just geriatric (though Jeffries is relatively young) genocidal Trump collaborators that are arguably less evil than Trump.
Can't just wait till voting time and be like "Damn I really wish I could vote for someone better, guess I just have to vote for Trump since he banned all the opposition except AI mecha-Hitler".
No one should take any voting advice when voting time comes from anyone that doesn't engage on building/sharing their plan (or supporting the one I've put forward) here and now for what/who we'll be voting for next year. Which also includes at least as much detail as I've provided about how we get from here to the election in a way that gives us the opportunity to accomplish our ostensibly shared goals.

....
In addition to the 240,000 Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion, and the 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans, these programs covered more than 70,000 Afghans escaping the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

Even aside from pure humanitarian grounds, you’re throwing some Afghans who actively helped the US mission there, back into the fucking grasp of a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan?
These cunts are so full of shit it’s scarcely believable.

I could understand the disgruntlement of people who are struggeling in life working hard, having nothing to show but seeing refugees in Europe getting paid apartments, allowance and healthcare without having to lift a finger.
It's seemingly unfair - yet ukrainians have a super hard time to get a job in germany, since their qualifications will not be recognized for skilled labour, and even the managers in unskilled labour won't speek ukrainian, russian or english so you
So many are forced to do nothing.
But in the US.. I suppose it is either make a living or stop living...
The ukrainian family from the reuter's link is working hard, paying for themselves, CREATING WEALTH.... and is to be kicked out because "IMMIGRANTS"
Germany did a rugpull on the "Ortskräfte" in Afghanistan as well. "Oh you weren't contracted by the Bundeswehr, you were a contractor to different german department only aiding the Bundeswehr, so you don't qualify for asylum"
"Taliban really don't make a difference, mein Herr"
"Tja, but that's not MY problem right? Also you stated that you left Afghanistan to Pakistan and then came to Germany via Poland, ja?"
"Ja"
"Okay, back to Poland you go, or Pakistan, which is a safe country in our Book"

it is hilarious how American career journalists pronounce "potash". That mispronounced word will be the key to rising food prices.
On March 07 2025 00:29 DarkPlasmaBall wrote: Brooke Rollins, has recommended that the solution to this is for everyone to simply become farmers and raise our own chickens. Sigh. A can of Raincoast Trading Salmon in Canada is ~$12. I've posted pictures/memes in the past of it. As I've said before there are times I can reach into the river with my bare hands and rip a salmon right out of the water.
top quality Salmon has become so expensive that a couple of hobby fishermen in my family decided to focus specifically on salmon fishing. Around the rivers in south western ontario catching a 20lb salmon "doesnt count" because they are so easy to catch. I started buying the salmon my grandfather catches about a year ago.
Sky high food prices are influencing things in fascinating ways.

Again by allowing huge companies like CalMain to keep existing the US is putting all eggs in one basket.
They are lowballing the actual farmers, and all the farmers who can't meet their prices get ousted, since losing the contract for a year will likely drive you out of business, these measn less supply of eggs.
Less Production, means more scarcity, means higher prices, means more profit for the egg dealers.
NICE.

NICE. i'll be smuggling my cheap mexican avocados into the USA across the northern border. no tariffs on avocados in Canada. American store chains will take these tariffs as an opportunity to jack up the avocado prices even further.
Salmon and Avocados are very healthy foods and have sky high prices only because upper middle class people like to burn money for no reason. There is no justification on the production side for the very high prices of these two items.

Is it news to you that how expensive something is to create or cultivate doesn’t always translate to how expensive it is to purchase?
I have a plain black tshirt. I have another plain black t-shirt, but this one has the Nike logo. That price markup isn’t coming from how expensive it is to print a logo.
Also isn’t part of the reason healthier options are more expensive, not really that they’re more expensive but, especially within the US it’s that unhealthy options are highly subsidised?

it is not news.
the line of thinking is that essential foods should have as little mark up as possible. Many right wingers supporting Trump have no problem with someone becoming a billionaire by selling $200,000 sports cars or selling $90 video games. What they have a hard time arguing for is the Weston family becoming billionaires selling groceries through their massive grocery store chain at sky high prices ... to the working poor. The Weston Family owns Loblaws.
The 2nd annual "Steal From Loblaws" day is May 12. https://nowtoronto.com/news/this-is-dangerous-and-irresponsible-loblaw-responds-to-posters-scattered-around-toronto-encouraging-people-to-steal-from-its-stores-in-may/
I guess this is where the right wing anarcho-capitalists say: "Lie, Cheat, Steal"

I've decided the little signs held by democrats are just confirmation this is all just a hell created by ruling class to torture us.
Its just such a parody its insane. Nothing quite summarizes democrat politicians quite like that little resistance they put on there. Myyy golly.
