I think I'm going to miss those quarterly press conferences where Sarah Sanders would berate the press for asking questions that were on the minds of most Americans and then blatantly lie.

Makes zero sense for Iran to do this. They were Japanese tankers and Shinzo Abe was visiting Iran at the time. Probably Saudis, Israelis, US pushing for war.

China will become the leading economic power with the next 20 years, if it isn't already. There is simply no way for USA to prevent that even at the cost of USA gutting itself. I do not cheer China's authoritarian bent, but nor do I cheer Trump's actions and policies regarding China as it seems to be entirely the wrong actions to protect the value of liberty. USA's military has nothing to do with anything.

I don’t particularly like it either, I’m no big fan of China and their way of doing things, equally the Chinese aren’t doing anything that’s particularly outlying vs other states.

The obvious counter to this is actual multilateralism and cooperation with like-minded states for the betterment of humanity

As opposed to being the world’s pre-eminent power and trying to pull the ladder up whenever someone else might be threatening your place at the top of things.

You’ve been dictating things for half a century (or more) disadvantaging the rest of the world when it suits your interests, but oh China are competitive and free trade is bad.

I’d happily stomach a moral stance if it extended to the likes of the Saudis, but it mystifyingly doesn’t, for reasons I’ll facetiously pretend not to understand.

The US’ current posturing just smacks of the British populace nostalgising over empire and complete impossibilities rather than just building on cooperation with our neighbours

You can try and say a lot of good things about china but you can't say that they practice much resembling fair trade.

It’s a lovely thing and let’s aggressively advocate for it for decades, until it isn’t.

It’s not an anti-US, or a pro-China thing at all. There will always be winners and loses given current systems, the US, or the UK with Brexit just shift all of the blame for the plight of the losers on external factors rather than acknowledge the reality of how things work.

You can’t simultaneously have a resurgent manufacturing base on Western wages while enjoying the lower costs of cheaper outsourced manufacturing at a consumer level, no amounts of tariffs can redress this.

You can’t get all of the plus sides of globalisation in this sense with none of the negatives, it can’t be done.

Politicians continually promise it can, if cannot. Votes cling to these aspirational ideas that are absolutely not deliverable

We're now 94 days from the last White House press briefing, a record, and without a press secretary. The previous record was 42 days, set by Sarah Sanders. Before that the longest it had been was 41 days, also set by Sarah Sanders. The 4th longest period without a press briefing was 29 days. That was back when Sarah Sanders was the press secretary.

I don't suppose they're in any hurry to replace her given her main job responsibility was not holding press briefings.

The least you can can expect in "free trade" is some respect for another nation's technology. The Chinese attitude to steal and cheat can't be ignored in a bath of murica bad. From trademarks to copyright to the government rip offs of other countries products to the point where you can take the doors from a Chinese made car and fit it onto a europian made car that is only legally made in Europe.

People were joking about measuring tenue in mooches but really they should tangent that in how many press conferences they made. Sarah sanders might have left months ago and nobody noticed beacuse they just didn't do press breifings anymore at the white house.

Why bother doing them if you're Trump?

New Balance has factories in New England and those shoes are often cheaper than Nike offerings so the main driver in many cases is corporate greed, sadly.

hahaha you had me with the 4th one. Kind of interesting to choose to leave a job where you don't actually have to do said job.

Now for Trump to appoint Jacob Wohl or Alex Jones as replacement 'acting' press secretary.

I didn't know that. In that case it looks much more like Saudis. The "thats what You get for siding with Iran" vibe.

Pompeo's recent statements sure make the US look like the main suspect, it's 'they hate our freedom' all over again

Also, his 'evidence' is directly contradicted by the operator of the Japanese ship:

The Japanese ship operator of one of two oil tankers attacked near the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday said that sailors on board its vessel, the Kokuka Courageous, saw "flying objects" just before the attack, suggesting the tanker wasn't damaged by mines.

That account contradicts what the U.S. military has said as it released a video it says shows Iranian forces removing an unexploded limpet mine from one of the two ships in the suspected attack.

Speaking at a news conference in Tokyo, Yutaka Katada, president of Kokuka Sangyo Co, said he believes the flying objects seen by the sailors could be bullets, and denied possibility of mines or torpedoes because the damages were above the ship's waterline. He called reports of mine attack "false."

I mean the waterline thing makes it seem pretty undeniable that the US is lying?

There's basically no way for that to happen and such obvious lying can only be because the truth is worse imo.

I only watched the first ~30 seconds and already had to facepalm. "40 years of unprovoked aggression". You overthrew their legitimate democratic government and installed a dictator you fuck. Thats a pretty textbook case of Provoked.

And when things started to improved you step out of a de-escalation agreement and start talking aggression again.
sigh.

Seems like the fix for war is in, let’s see if folks are actually willing to stand up to warhawks this time.
