Edit: Danglars, its not my fault you don't get my joke about shooting conservatives. But let me tell you, its plays very well. Big laughs. You shouldn't be so serious about this stuff. Yep, we've just established that it's ok for you to joke about shooting conservatives. Nobody said anything different. On May 10 2019 01:03 Plansix wrote: I’m going to joke about shooting conservatives because they want to sentence to death for having a suspicious miscarriage. It will be extra funny because the only part that is untrue is me wanting to shoot conservatives. But, you see if Trump were to make the joke, it's no longer funny. I'm aware of the rules even as I make fun of the rules. Carry on. ill say different. if P6 were the president that joke would be recklessly irresponsible. so much so that it should make headlines and he should be shamed, can the president be censured? if so, also censured. it would be a national embarrassment. agree? disagree? You wouldn't condemn the joke now, but would were he president? That's hardly a difference in what I said at all. I'll even go one further: You know it's blatant hypocrisy and don't really believe a person's station in life should dictate what jokes are beyond the pale. Either you can joke about shooting conservatives or you can't. The whole "but Orange man bad" excuse for jiggering with humor is dimwitted.
i didn’t intend to say i’d say differently from you, but rather differently from your claim that ‘nobody spoke differently.’ i’m here, speaking differently.
to the rest. i know i’m a page behind so i apologize if this has already been addressed, but no, absolutely not and i absolutely hold the president of the united states to a higher standard than Plansix. this should not be contentious. i can only assume you don’t because tribalism. i can prove it i’m sure if i go back to Obama age and show that you too used to hold the president to some kind of standard higher than that of an anonymous forum user. this is one of the more ridiculous things i’ve had to say in recent memory. your trolling continues to impress.

I once saw a German comedian respond to a Hitler reference with “He was Austrian”. “What?” “Hitler. You implied he was German but actually he was Austrian”. “Okay...” “Nothing to do with us really” in a completely deadpan delivery.
It was hilarious precisely because of the absurdity of the claim and the audacity of the liar who said it. Everyone knows Germany and Hitler were associated so the line is funny. L
But if the speaker was associated with a group of right wing German nationalists who believed the line it would no longer be funny.

Trump wasn't joking about shooting immigrants, he was joking about someone suggesting to shoot immigrants 10 (ten) seconds after him saying "we can't let them use weapons, we can't, other countries do, we can't, I would never do that". Then he hears the guy and bursts into laughter together with the ocean of his supporters because Trump and the vast majority of his supporters found the absurdity of the guy's suggestion funny. I think people got this part. They just had the idea of drawing an absurd line that also puts the joke past it. The affectation of missing the humor is not the ultimate goal here, it’s merely a step.

On Mock the Week Frankie Boyle once had to one-line on "Things a sports commentator would never say" and he went "These triple jumpers have trained for years to go bouncing along the concrete like retards".
The principle behind the joke is that we all think triple jumpers look ridiculous, but we can't say; and also we're all ableists. That's an offensive joke and I understand how it works.
In Europe shoes size 39 are somewhat average, and then the bigger your feet are the more the number increases, so you can say that Jews are like shoes because there are more of them in 39 than in 45.
I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm not against dark humor, I legit don't understand how this one is supposed to work as a joke. For the Hitler comparison to work it would have to be completely absurd that devout Trump supporters would want to shoot immigrants, and it's, quite simply, not.

i don’t know if i’m crazy. i find all these jokes funny, including the presidents joke. i just think the president under no circumstances should make these jokes in the capacity of president.
if it was at his dinner table that would be something different?

I'm talking about the dude in the crowd. I understand how Trump's response works.
My issue with Trump's response is that because I can't see how the dude in the crowd could possibly not have been serious, I would have expected a serious answer rather than a joke to defuse the situation.

I mean, I'm honestly curious. How would Danglars and xDaunt feel if Obama went to a rally, filled with people who clearly support him, and someone joked about shooting Christians, and his response was to mildly joke about what that person said? Would you honestly feel he went far enough to ridicule the idea? You would want someone in such a clear position of authority to send a clear message that he wouldn't tolerate such heinous ideas, would you not?
I'm serious here. Take a minute and do some reflection. Within minutes you'd have people all over the internet saying that's unacceptable. You guys know that. But do you care?

And believe me, there is no shortage of stupid jokes and other public faux pas that democrats have made that I could bring up around here. Long story short, don't project your love affair of the trivial upon others, and especially not me.

i get the sentiment and if you’ll let me i’ll put some words in your mouth in the sense that in parading around similar failures, at the very least, we would all then agree they’re faux pas. or some people may choose to try to defend the democrats respective faux pas(though i would like to think i would not be one of them.)
if i’m off base, i’m sorry.
also i just realized i have no idea how to pluralize faux pas. google says it’s already plural, like moose. in case anyone else needed to learn that too.

Remember when we were talking about whether it was ok for the President of USA to refer to immigrants as animals? That to single out a group of people would be to demean them as subhuman and make it easier to treat them badly. Yeah, it's not funny. It's not a joke. Seeing a massive group of people laugh after the comment sent shivers down my spine. Creepy.

Fascist sentiments aren't exactly trivial. Especially not when expressed by a far right crowd.

I can't go that far. This scene as I see it doesn't prove or disprove that Trump is a fascist.

Google's wrong^^. But the plural form is written the same as the singular form.

The overton window opens both ways. The president openly bemoaning that the military and police can't use weapons on the asylum seekers and other immigrants at the border should not be taken lightly. Especially by those who claim to value the rule of law.

I was going to make a crass joke about "first they came for the immigrants" and the usual follow ups, and it ended up with "and then USA became a white ethnostate" as the punchline and realised it wasn't as funny a parody as it should had been.
Mainly becuase it isn't a parody.

As I have pointed out many times in this thread over the past few years, Democrats and liberals have demonstrated a real problem with being able to discern between important grounds to attack Trump on and trivial grounds to attack Trump on. Most people simply tune it all out now.

oh, sorry i did misunderstand. i guess i’m still holding out hope that supporters will actually change their mind and decide that the integrity of the office matters in this regard. he makes a mockery of it, i don’t know if everyone tunes that out.

Saying that there is nothing informative or interesting about the spoken words of the President of the United States?
Honestly xdaunt? Honestly?
Why act as if he is just some random tv personality on TV?
