Didn't you and the other conservatives get your panties all twisted when Hillary joked about just killing assange with a drone?

ill say different. if P6 were the president that joke would be recklessly irresponsible. so much so that it should make headlines and he should be shamed, can the president be censured? if so, also censured. it would be a national embarrassment. agree? disagree?

And that joke would not be acceptable in many places, including my job.
Do you realize that if I say "We are going to war with Iran. The missiles are on the way!" out loud on national TV it doesn't matter that much; but if the president says the same thing on national TV, the whole world is on teh look out for missiles in route to Iran?

I’m going to disagree with the argument that because xDaunt and Danglars are intelligent individuals they must know how stupid their arguments are. You see this a lot with conservatives where they have a completely backwards understanding of why other people think the way they do and then make remarkable arguments based upon that understanding.
The classic example is shit like “you say the Bible is just words in a book but isn’t evolution also printed in books and therefore by your own logic it must be wrong” but it’s the exact same shit with identity politics, jokes, satire, police, and basically everything else.
It’s somewhat funny to hear actually. I’d wager Danglars really does believe that we believe that offensive is just something to say in Twitter hashtags to target political opponents and therefore stuff he disagrees with has equal claim to being offensive. I doubt he believes that anyone really has a problem with the President joking to supporters about state sanctioned murder of asylum seekers while his supporters are getting guns and heading to the border to fight the invasion he told them about. And if we’re willing to fake being offended about things then he might as well fake being offended about armed fetuses entering wombs to stops armed bad fetuses.

You wouldn't condemn the joke now, but would were he president? That's hardly a difference in what I said at all.
I'll even go one further: You know it's blatant hypocrisy and don't really believe a person's station in life should dictate what jokes are beyond the pale. Either you can joke about shooting conservatives or you can't. The whole "but Orange man bad" excuse for jiggering with humor is dimwitted.

On top of everything else, I would still like for one of our conservative friends to explain the joke.
See the humor in the joke about arming fetuses comes from the fact that it's taking the conservative belief that more guns make us safer and bringing it to an extreme that renders the situation completely absurd.
"Immigrants are coming to invade us aaaaahhhhhh!" "Shoot them!"
The humor in this joke is...? Go.

This isn’t hard. The joke is about the people of the panhandle. He is singling them out for thinking that shooting immigrants is okay and making fun of them for having that attitude. This is why I said the joke is actually a mild admonishment.

So in this scenario we all agree that the supporter isn't joking?

Or is the joke how Trump detractors apply special rules for their behavior, and never had any intent of observing the behavior they prescribe for Trump? I think the funniest part is defending their attacks on Trump's language, especially the naked claims of incitement, and then defending their own jokes like everybody knows Trump means it and they don't.
It's like halfway through the reasoning process, progressives realize they're now playacting religious tradcons policing jokes. Like hell they're surrender their own "millions will die" rhetoric to comply with their own rules on incitement. Go watch some Dave Chapelle reruns (if he isn't now similarly problematic like Trump ... I hardly know if this crowd will say it's funny or it's offensive)

Do you think the armed vigilante militias hunting people who look foreign near the border makes it at all less funny?

The president mildly admonishes joke hunting other humans because they don’t look like Americans while on national stage. No big deal.

So in this scenario we all agree that the supporter isn't joking? Not necessarily. I agree with this. It was clearly a question to see what the President thought about shooting possible illegal immigrants on sight. The President mildly disapproved. But just mildly. The man should have suggested beating the people who look like illegal immigrants to get the approval of the President.

I am really enjoying this live display of the "It was just a joke, and here are all the reasons why" phenomenon. You don't have to defend your racist grandpa when he says something racist in front of your black friend, you just have to go "yeah, that was horrible and he shouldn't have said that". It's not difficult. It must be getting real difficult to not trip on the bar the Right has set for Trump, with how low it is.

I'm just waiting for Republicans to explain away why Trump not showing up for Inauguration day isn't a big deal.

Good! It didn't feel like we were all agreeing.
So, again, if he is joking, how does the joke work?

In contrast, there is no information to draw any reasonable inference regarding what the audience member intended with his comment. Accordingly, I see little point in speculating regarding what the audience member truly meant.

"There is no functioning joke mechanism" would seem to me a decent information to draw a reasonable inference.
