The security is also terrible at recognizing knives. Not long ago I were unknowingly traveling with a leatherman in my backpack, going through 3 securities without being stopped. I did not discover the knife before I were in SF, traveling all the way from Norway and doing a 1 day stop in Iceland. The security we have now is to catch stupid terrorists, act as a deterrent to other stupid terrorists, give passangers a sense of safety, give trust in that the government is doing something to increase our safety and increase spending at the shops behind the security.

Trumps campaign rhetoric on the wall both ensured that he would never get it through Congress and that he would look very stupid if he did not get the wall. What's funny is that his supporters still think it might happen. They should really be going with the "serious but not literal" interpretation here.

It will stop 100% of cartel built drug submarines trying to cross the desert. It works as a symbol because people don't understand that drug cartels are actually really sophisticated and can move their product around in ways more complex than by foot. I swear, sometimes I think your politicians believe drug rings are all like Crazy 8 from Breaking Bad.

Now trump is threatening to declare a national emergency and the Dems are more dug in than ever. Zero might be right it might last until tax returns or longer. Anyone have idea what a government shutdown costs? There really is no telling how long this is going to go on for and how its going to end. For now all the Dems need to do is send a clean CR to the senate every once in a while and wait for them to make the first move.

Anyone have idea what a government shutdown costs? http://time.com/money/5494004/government-shutdown-costs-trump-border-wall/ TLDR: a lot. A few weeks of the value of the labour of gov employees who will get paid but not work. Plus a broader economic loss due to the gov being a major participant in the economy.

Some things the Republicans don't like will be hit by it but so will everything else, and there is no hiding behind a better deal.

The problem with Brexit is that there isn’t actually a government in the UK at the moment that has the power to govern. The EU has spent two years negotiating with people who have no power who are being propped up by an opposition who are somehow even worse. Hopefully the serious politicians in the EU will realize that the political structures in the UK have just ceased to function and just pretend none of this ever happened.

Because of the way these programs are set up, the landlord will have a tough time getting information from the housing authority that is handling the federal assistance. The tenant will have to do everything and keep up with the housing authority after the shutdown ends. Needless to say, the people with these leases are often the least capable of navigating something like this alone. https://twitter.com/kylegriffin1/status/1082275667834691585 It's just going to get worse and worse. First is these people getting kicked out of their homes in the middle of winter. The scariest to me is this: Administration officials are also looking to see what is legally permissible as they determine how to grapple with the 38 million Americans who could lose access to food assistance next month because the Agriculture Department is also caught up in the shutdown. As soon as this week, the agency could begin notifying states that it might not be able to provide the expected levels of financial assistance for food programs. 38 million might not be able to feed themselves. More than 10% of the US population.

The problem of the government is that both parties have both remain and leave voters. The proportions are not split exactly 50-50, but it is enough that neither parties want to have a postion where they will alienate the otherside, no matter which course of action they would want to openly take. Despite being the most polarising issue, neither major party are polarised in the same way that USA would be for instance. Similar issue, different circumstance. But further discussion would be better suited elsewhere I imagine.

And this isn't one of those things where there is no one to blame. There is a very clear line of who to blame and why the situation exists. Very clear! It's the obstructionists Democrats who have been controlling both houses for years! Or at least that's what you'd think if your news intake was Fox News and Trump's Twitter feed.
