It's looks like the terrorists are winning. ~
No it's not. It's safety. The american candidate that say he don't want French tourist without a proper visa etc... (it was Rand paul but i don't have the text right now) i'd call that winning since it's trying to separete france and us further. That is what they want.

Not sure how they could possibly know that, but if it's true that's pretty crazy xD
that's pretty common in combats with automatic weapons. Most of the bullets are used in suppressing fire.
I didn't hear any automatic weapons in the videos I've seen?
Because those video lasted an hour like the fight and were top notch quality ? And i'm assuming you have a really good hearing of automatic rifles.
Well who are we suggesting was firing automatic rifles? As far as I know the French police don't use automatic weapons anyway.
Presumably we don't only hear police shooting in the videos, as for hearing automatic weapons, I'm guessing you have never shot anything along those lines (or been in the presence of someone else shooting them) because it's very easy to distinguish semi automatic fire from automatic.

My bad I was looking at the standard police as opposed to France's SWAT equivalent. But as was said just because they are capable doesn't mean that's how they were used.
Doesn't strike me as a big deal either way other than if 5k bullets were shot but less than 1% hit the people they were aiming at sounds reckless.
Apparently the terrorists were alternating shooting, one at a time for an hour so the gunfire was constant. THey were prepared because the door didn't explode with the first explosives so they had time to prepare. You can have the explanation in the police chief conference but i don't have an english link.
funny shit for frenchies Context for non french: this guy is the owner of the place the terrorists were killed / arrested yesterday, and of cooooourse he didn't know shit p:
pretty much nobody uses fully automatic fire, firing quickly in semi automatic mode is far more effective as ur still putting a scary number of rounds downrange and much more accurately.
a big reason why law enforcement wont use full automatic fire is also public safety.

She left him in 2008. 8 years ago. From what we know the radicalization process is much faster
That wasnt the point, the point is that its not like he grew up in some conservative Islamist household. What that has to do with the speed of the radicalization process is kinda irrelevant. You can get radicalized in a matter of weeks depending on circumstance. Its not like he was religious or conservative and probably related more to a European lifestyle unline those "Islam people" everyones so worried about.

"But mister police officer, I thought those vests were just a bold fashion statement!"
Just like how their friends and family insist these guys are just the most wonderful people ever and they cannot understand how this happened. Reminds me of when some wretched little creep went on British national television and cried because he was so distraught over his friend Jihadi John, claiming he was "a beautiful person", this coming some hours after he had finished decapitating some volunteer aid worker on live stream.

To be fair thats true for alot of people before they get radicalized. One of the people who was killed in the attempted attack on the Draw Mohammad cartoon event was an old family friend. Infact our dads were super close but I hadnt been in touch with him for 10-15 years.
I mean this guy was in my childhood videos, taught me how to jetski when I visited them in salt lake early 2000. Lovely guy, loved his family, as secular as it gets. And then a few years later you read the news and you really dont know what to think. Sure 15 years is a long time, but your immediate reaction is disbelief and all you want to do is try and put the pieces together. His mom was from Texas and his dad while religious was super tolerant and let his kids do whatever they wanted. He didnt really end up doing anything except getting himself killed but man.. his dad was absolutely broken. Just cried for days. You see that kind of suffering from a man whose never hurt a fly and raised his children the same way and its soul crushing when they go and pull that shit. He even had an 8 year old kid.
So yes it is difficult to understand for people who have known these people to be loving caring individuals how this could happen and is incredibly scary if people can be warped to something so vile and despicable from being on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Believe it or not most bullets fired in a fire fight don't hit people. Suppressive fire is a very real thing and it's designed to keep the enemy pinned down and stop retaliatory fire. Considering a rocket launcher was found a few days ago I'm going to go ahead and think that the French were simply not in the mood to fuck around and made sure that anyone poking out to engage the police or military was met with a hail of bullets.
It's highly doubtful they kept civilians close to the area anyway. Law enforcement is usually pretty careful about that sort of thing.

obviously event like this are gonna be recurrent and we are gonna be in the news next to things like syria and liban
each 5-6 month you will have an extremist killing 8 people at a bar or someone blowing himself randomly
french people should be better ready to get used to it
you have somewhat 10k thousands people ready to go to war against french on our own soil and more thousands supporting them

the reach of the state is pretty limited in western countries as far as 'ethnic' communities go. and obviously we don't want to have 'patriotic education' a la soviets or china. creating organic unity where it is lacking is hard, and it probably takes a generation or so of successful social and economic integration to create an active liberal muslim community. the u.s. is a bit farther along in this but the same problems exist where 'muslim' is nto a single block but many diverse and sometimes conflicting loyalties and identities.

it's a pretty hard problem
I think the most distressing part for me is how few nations have a dedicated plan and task force to deal with it. It is such a clear issue across all ethnic groups and is similar to recruiting spies back during the cold war, yet nations seem to think that traditional methods will be sufficient. There was a podcast, Replyall, where a reporter was able to contact the recruiters on twitter and other social media with no effort. It just seems to prolific to not address directly.
Maybe that is just me, but I've been hearing a lot of reports about how the Western nations just don't have a handle on this issue.
that's half-assed at best. it is true that IS claim most bad shit that happens even when they're not connected to it+ Show Spoiler +
one could still argue successfully that it's the religion that connects/unites them
but saying they're weak is just wrong. they have millions of people under their rule. how the fuck can you win there?. their strength comes from being able and willing to use civilians as a deterrent or as shields. gl wining that kind of urban warfare.
