Well my top 3 animes look like this: 1st - Fullmetal Alchemist (great story and characters, the music is awesome) 2nd - Hellsing (Alucard pwnzz, the music is unforgivable and the animation is the best in my opinion) 3th - well not sure about it but here are some good animes - CowBoy Beebop / Spirited Away / ergo proxi / Berserk.
Not really sure which one to put on the 3th place - mb Spirited Away.
1. Ghost in the Shell 2. Berserker 3 ... Except from some anime movies, most serials I've seen were quite childish like Naruto, Bleach or DBZ so they dont really deserve third place.
are u ugys fucking retarded. How many series has made it to 200+ episodes, and even tho 70 of em are fillers. You guys act like Naruto gave u 100 of non stop episodes and now that they are being sellouts by making fillers u feel like they stabbed u or some crap. THERES NO OTHER ANIME that was as fun as naruto and kept you watching until you couldnt. Gundam Seed / PRince of tennis was pretty damn addicting and epic but it wasnt like naruto where i had to DL every single episode and watch all the episodes i had. Gummi u guys act like it wasn't worth it seeing naruto when in fact it holds the highest rank. Also grave of the fireflies was the shittiest movie i hate watching english subbed anime.

I havent seen onepiece but heard its good.
QFT. I too, can't stand it when people even just count the fillers in to the Naruto storyline. Naruto is what Naruto is - and it's not the fillers. I haven't even watched anything past 140 just coz I'm not interested in seeing something that's NOT even nearly Naruto at all. Same with Kenshin past ep. ~80 or so.
Naruto is still one of the best there is, forget the fillers for a while, concentrate on the story.

Contrary to what you believe, there are quite a few animes that went past 200 episodes (roughly 4 years)
1 Sazae San - 36 years 2 Doraemon - 26 years 3 Manga Nippon Mukashibanashi - 18 years 4 Soreike! Anpannmann - 17 years 5 Kureyon Shinnchann - 13 years 6 Chibimarukochan - 9 years 7 Meitantei Konan - 8 years 8 Kochikame - 8 years 9 Kiteretsu Daihyakka - 8 years 10 Kotowaza House - 7 years 11 DBZ - 6 years 12 Ikkyusann - 6 years 13 Ninja Hatori kun - 6 years 14 ONE PIECE - 6 years 15 Manga Hajimete Monogatari - 5 years 16 Hokahoka Kazoku - 5 years 17 Poket Monster - 5 years 18 Dr. Slump Ararechan - 4 years 19 Shimajima no Shimajirou - 4 years 20 Urusei Yatsura - 4 years
Considering many of these occurred before Shueisha and others' increased focus on Mediamix beginning in the mid 90's, it is clear that a lot of these are culturally much more significant than say, Naruto. (i.e. When the Doraemon voice acting cast changed after 20+ years, it consistently made national headlines)
1. Cowboy Bebop 2. Samurai Champloo 3. Outlaw Star / Full Metal Panic Fumoffu
I'm pretty sure anime only includes japanese animation, not things like Family Guy and South Park. I mean I'm sure there are Japanese animators but you probably get what I'm saying....
Edit: Bebop is waaaaaaaay up there for me. Best anime.
On November 21 2006 11:34 lil.sis wrote: 3. Naruto 1-95 2. Akira (i dont know if we're counting movies) 1. and I can't believe nobody has said this TRIGUN
o shit i fogot about trigun (altho it woudlnt make my top 3 anyways)
but was that show even funny when dubbed in english? That show was better for its humor rather than for its action. The action is at least 10x better in the manga (up to like volume 14 right now?) Losing original voice actors and Wolfwod's kansai accent isnt going to help. :O
I've only watched one full anime series, and it was because a friend wanted to watch it with me. It was really good though: Full Metal Alchemist. I saw a lot of other people mentioned it too. Actually, I don't remember any of the specific episodes from it anymore and I kinda want to rewatch it now.
I never watched it dubbed. The only purely comedic episodes are like the first few anyway. Once they start in on serious character development its absolutely incredible.

you want the comics? If you're talking about style and character development, it's even bettar! :O One of he few manga that has maintained its own style in the 21st century.
1. bebop 2. GITS:standalone complex (although for pure animation quality the 2nd movie is tight) 3. FMP (both the serious and the funny seasons)
lots and lots just below the top 3. And honestly i think it's not that naruto is bad (ok well the fillers are fucking terrible) it's just that it's been done before. a screwup outcast faces impossible odds and becomes an unlikely hero, then next week and even tougher foe comes along forces some growth....lather rinse repeat.
For me, I watch anime without much attention to realistic or "logical" sequence of events or actions, and I just appreciate moments of elegance. So, for me
3 most memorable animes:
Elfen Lied (emotionally very well executed, especially for lucy. all other characters are not as good, but lucy is awesomeness. The blood and nakedness is a part of the execution, you just need to experience it, dont think too much) over fanserviced, but that contributes to sedating you into a comfortable haze and then wacking you with some nuclear charges. Evangelion (Eva...that made anime serious, is just unique) SHnY, haruhi is haruhi, need to experience it.
Honorable mentions: KGNE, Gundam SEED, Kenshin OVA Reminiscence. Under evaluation: Death Note
I did not like FMA very much, I tried so hard to like it too, watched until episode 21 when i finally can't take anymore lameness.
Shonen series in which some guy grows stronger and stronger I dont like so much, too shallow. The only themes there are either some sort of "protect your community!" or "protect your girl!" So very banal.
But as you can see, I'm a hopeless romantic..so i tend to see animes in a romantic and idealistic way.
TOp 3. Evangelion Akira Princess mononoke. Now anything under that id say Gundam Wing(original) Full metal alchemist. ghost in the shell Cowboy beebop Outlaw Star Trigun theres no perticular order there, but there all pretty dope.
4. Dragonball AF ( theres only the fan made fictional )
5. Dragonball movies 1-16
I cant even explain it, The whole series is goooooooooooood, the music, the art, the characters, the storyline, the whole dragon ball world, its just awesome... Vegeta <3
6. Urotsukidoji (joke, if any of u even know what sort of anime urotsukidoji is)
... 6. Urotsukidoji (joke, if any of u even know what sort of anime urotsukidoji is)
Well...this is totally freakin crazy one...i'm not going to talk about it though...i don't know how to say but as i first saw Fist of the North Star i thought its the anime with the most nonesense ever, but when i saw Urotsukidoji my opiniion changed...
Anyway my Toplist is:
1. Trigun (Very good story and pretty funny aswell) 2. Full Metal Alchemist / Berserk 3. Bubble Gum Crisis / Dragon Ball - Z - GT - Movies
1. Last Exile ............ .. maybe 2. or 3. Cowboy Bebop?
.... I've always liked Scrapped Princess, so maybe that's a 3rd place Contender. I've also enjoyed Suzumiya Haruhi bullshit but I don't know if that's top 3.
Last Exile is definetly my favorite anime of all time, however. Great soundtrack, too.
Bleach Cowboy Bebop The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
In no real order
On November 21 2006 11:25 Ack1027 wrote: Bebop is waaaaaaaay up there for me. Best anime.
This is an absolute truth that cannot be denied.
Death Note is still new and only has 7 eps out so far, but at the rate it's going, it'll probably be a TREMENDOUS delight to anyone who hasn't already read the manga.
But Cowboy Bebop will always be my #1, I've seen Samurai Champloo but it didn't really astound me as Cowboy Bebop (but, I still love Samurai Champloo, still in my top 10). Anyways, Cowboy Bebop's story line, music, everything, is perfect.
Atleast there are some TL.net members that agree that CB is awesum.
So much to choose from thats all top notch imo. Hard to say that these 3 are the what i consider best, but its how i see it right now.
Hunter X Hunter Cowboy Bebop Full Metal Panic
These are what comes up in my head as top 3 right now. This is not counting series that are not finished yet. Like Naruto and Bleach, whom i both loved to death when there was no fillers.
Out of the 30 or so series/movies that I've watched... 1) Cowboy Bebop / Trigun / Outlawstar (all somewhat similar) 2) Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal 3) I dunno, last exile I suppose.
But i liked Trasnformers G1, G2 and headmasters ( if you consider those anime, since they were drawn in japan), Captain Tsubasa, Detective Conan, Haruhi, Macross, Dragon Ball.
It is the only anime that I enjoyed dubbed more than subtitled, because the dubber for Kentaro was unbelievably hilarious, far better than the original Japanese voice actor.
Watch it on Crunchyroll.com if you get the chance, there are only 6 episodes. I suggest smoking a bowl first.

hahaha I remember watching this dubbed in my friends place (even tho we were all japanese it was the only copy he had... I think the same video had some kind of fairly-dragon-anime-pr0n as well) and he had such a dopey "i'm so out of it" voice
If anyone wants the raw scans of the manga, PM me. Egawa Tatsuya (江川達也) is a true genius. Tokyo Daigaku Monogatari was so "WTF..." -__-
Doesnt get even weirder in the movies? (esp when they came out with the first movie, which ends in the middle, then the next one came out and the first 1/2 was a repeat of the first movie. lol my cousin said he felt ripped off for paying for the movie ticket)
Yeah the second movie improves chap 24 (i think it was 24) a lot compared to the series, it goes more like the mid-series chap. But all of a sudden they do it again and go crazy in chapter 25 and everything gets fucked up again. Like if it was some kind of joke.
end of evangelion movies....only worth watching if you are interested in a somewhat closure to the eva world, which it wont give you but at least more than the regular ending. Other than that, i dont know whether to call it fucked up, occult, new age-crazy or a harrowing experience.
Eva episode 2x...only watch if you are a master of the Force.
dragon ball is cute and all, but it is a bit too childish for my taste. there are a number of other shows that totally obliterate it.
Now, if only someone dare to show Elfen uncensored on american tv, lmao. It would be a glorious thing.
Welcome to the NHK ...I dunno why, the anime is so much weaker than the manga, it just intrigues me. Hmm...Detective Conan, is pretty art... And ah....the very first season of digimon and the first movie...I liked that. And for some odd reason, I kinda did like Love Hina until episode 20 when the creator obviously let the story go out of hand.. The manga > anime, perfectly.
Also, DBZ was the essence of elementary school - middle school years.

Dont get me wrong. It would be a "understandable ending" if the series built up in that way, or had some similar things with that points. But to me is like watching Bambi and instead Bambis mother dying in a common way, Jigsaw appears and says "I WANT TO PLAY A GAME" and something gorish happens.
See my point? In other words, the ending seems 'out of place'.

I have to ask because I've always been interested in it, but never really got the opportunity to watch anime...
Is there somewhere online, such as YouTube, where I can watch entire episodes (and preferably entire seasons) of any of these shows? Here in America the only anime I've ever seen was Pokemon, and Dragon Ball Z. I liked both, and even though I've grown up to the point now where I don't think I'd have an interest in either regularly, I'm definitely still interested.

The record isn't very important to me ^_^; If you have a "creative" idea, PM me.

To me there were about 20 unexplained "wtf is that" "why the fuck is that thing doing this" or "why the fuck is this happening" moments within a spam of 5 minutes. All the mental agony scenes, which made up about 80% of the time in these episodes, were either mystifying or showing how crazy these people are. I guess if you try really really hard some sensible theory on what happened there may be constructed, but the overall experience i got out of it was a headache.
Why is eva great. It is not "great" in the sense that kenshin ova was great, there is no consistent theme, characters are schizo, and the story is really unclear due to too many unexplained wtfness, but it dared to be this way, and was revolutionary due to its audacity. It explored what anime can do creatively. That and it was, hate it or love it, a memorable experience.

I can't understand why everyone likes dumb animes like naruto, pokemon, full metal alchemist, and dragon ball, z, and other similar crap. Thats exactly what they are; recycled.
The Best Animes imo are ones that are very well drawn, very violent, and usually have a good plot other than a group of idiots trying to reach some goal to be the best or whatever.
-Top 3 - Ninja Scroll Vampire Hunter D Lupin 3rd /Fist of the north star/ Ghost in the shell
Can't really pick a 3rd but I like that fact that lupin is an anti hero. Hes like the opposite of james bond. And his main goals in life are stealing valuable art and chasing around fine pussy.
Fist of the north star is just really cool old anime where peoples heads explode and shit like that.
Ghost in the shell kinda alters your perception on reality sort of like when you see the matrix for the first time.
That would be the theory behind it, and it makes sense, but in the short space of the anime no one will be able to get that, and the overall feeling is confusion and bewilderment. With elfen lied you are not asked to be able to comprehend a rational sequence of events in order to have certain impressions, which I found neat. If eva was like elfen lied, the ending would give someone a definite impression, instead of confusion. In this elfen did much better, even if it is as confusing if not more so than eva.
The thing about Evangelion is, the real ending is called Instrumentalization, wich is a godly ending, but it has no fights at all and it all ends in a phylosophical and psychological explanation of the hole Eva series that kinda shows how everything is in Shinji's mind, obviously people didnt like it they wanted fights and stuff so "AIR" was created.
Wich is still very phylosopical with a lot of symbolism like Asuka's black suit at the ending while ayanami's is white, you also have to interpet what does SEELE and NERV mean and why do they fight, what are the leaders of SEELE trying to accomplish etc etc etc, its a very very very complex series.
anyway my list goes:
1.- Kenshing OVA (those 4 precuels are the best of the best in anime) 2.- Berserk (fucking art!) 3.- HellSing (the animation is godly, plus ive always been a fan of Vlad)
most overrated pieces of junk:
1.- Naruto (started ok againstht zabuza, then it went downhill with kiddy repetitive plots and fillers) 2.- Ninja Scroll (the animation cuality is pathetic and the plot is retarded) 3.- Dragon Ball X (kiddy scum full of fillers)

you dont understand it. It deals with the concept of humanity and humane behavior, alienation, death, forgiveness, and a lot of the parental themes. Also got some envy, trust, betrayal, very basic but touching themes.

1.- Naruto (started ok againstht zabuza, then it went downhill with kiddy repetitive plots and fillers)
Even though I like Naruto, I kind of have to agree. The first episode was good, then it was just okay up until the battles with Zabuza, which were just amazing and very instrumental in terms of shaping the characters (particularly the star, Naruto). Even after that, the Chuunin exams, first meeting Orochimaru it was a good series. Then after the massive showdown with Gaara, there was basically nothing up until Sasuke leaving. Those pieces of the show I mentioned featured some of the best animation out there backed by a strong plot line. Besides that though, just too many wasted episodes where they were clearly trying to fill in time and stretch out the length of the series... at the cost of the show's credibility.
I also don't really understand how a show can have serious themes and yet play so heavily on kiddiness. And very unfortunately, it only seems that the fillers bring down the seriousness surrounding important plot issues and end up making the show more kiddy. Comparing, say, episodes 17 and 18 to any episode from the mid 100's is like comparing... it's just night and day. Anything in the mid 100's reminds me more of Pokemon than anything else, and believe me, that's not what I want to watch. I was hooked on the show up until after Sasuke's big showdown with Naruto.
It also disturbs me that there is some material after Sasuke's leaving that I feel they could have put to good use and yet they did not at all. It looked like Naruto's relationship witth Hinata was going to develop in one of those episodes, but nothing came out of it. If anything, the show should have taken a darker and more serious turn as Naruto lost his best friend. Sigh T.T, it's "how to ruin a good series 101."

==================================== Yuyuhakusho(NO ONE MENTIIONED IT?!)[/QUOTE]
the manga is far better, hence not worth mentioning although it was nice that they included some parts that the author decided to omit (the makai stuff) b/c he came to the conclusion that if he continues, he'll just keep doing the same stuff over and over until the readers get bored. So he convinced the editors that he's going to end the series. Pretty bold move. Hence the series ends at a very high level, instead of dragging on and on and on (19 volumes for an immensely popular series is like nothing)

Doraemon is amazing. However the new voice actors and animation style can just suck it.
Kochikame went SEVERLY downhill around volume 100, and was already showing its decline around volume 90. I used to love this series, but it got absolutely unbearable around the same time the golden years of jump ended. (DB, Slam Dunk, kenshin, YuYu, Dai, etc ending all at once, without suitable substitues. Jump regained some momentum with HxH, One-Piece, Naruto, but it will never be the same again. Kochikame's absolute peak was around volumes 40~80. After volume 100 has been largely trash compared to its older brilliance. It is sad to see )
Dir En Grey isnt heavy metal. They are a "visual-kay" band.
Whether or not Dir En Grey is Visual Kai or not the Music they produce has the same qualities as many heavy metal Songs. low Tuned muted riffs, Loud vocals Fast drum beats and Even some good bass/guitar solos. Just because its "Visual Kai" Doesnt mean its not metal to some people.
dir en grey labels themselves as visual kei, they were huge in pioneering it if you've only heard their stuff though it's very reasonable to think they're just heavy
though! they do have some really fucked up shit that is really hard to classify
naruto bleach and onepiece are the only ones that are still not finished that i'm watching.. other then that full metal alchemist... hajime no ippo... prince of tennis... shaman king... hikaru no go... ruroni kenshin... there are more but i forgot.
for full metal alchemist tho.. i really didn't like the end. it left u kinda heartbroken and disappointed T_T

You ever seen any of their music videos? Watch a few of them. Start off with obscure. that makes me want to vomit. The video is quite... Well obscure... as the title says. But i completely agree with you, although i have heard a few other bands who classify themselves as visual kai, and I was nowhere near as impressed with them as i was the first time i heard Dir En Grey. I still label them as metal myself. But i guess its all opinionated.
Series: Cowboy Bebop - The epitome of animated coolness. Spike is the most badass motherfucker in the solar system. The soundtrack is some of my favorite music (by Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts), as well. FLCL - Great story, awesome animation, and tons of style. Nonsensical at first, but after a while it starts to fall together. It is also surprisingly touching, with realistic characters that have tons of depth. Another incredible soundtrack by The Pillows. Now and Then, Here and There - Probably the anime that best shows the horrors of war (excepting, perhaps, Grave of the Fireflies), especially among young people. Even though it is set in an alternate universe, the themes ring true throughout.
Movies: Akira - If you consider yourself and anime fan and you haven't seen this, do yourself a favor and watch it right now. Go. Do it. It's fucking incredible: from the intricate and bizarre plot to the amazing production values (not a single cell of animation was reused throughout the entire movie), this movie does no wrong... except maybe with the American voice actors. But fuck them, use subtitles. Castle in the Sky - This is something of a wild card, as you probably won't find this on many other favorite lists, but it really struck a chord with me. The characters are likable, and the adventure is grand. There is nothing terribly complex going on, just straightforward and lighthearted questing.
1. Detective Conan 2. Lupin III 3. Captain Tsubasa
I sort of grew out of anime and haven't watched many of the new series, so my list is kind of dated. These are all shows I loved when I was little and that I still watch from time to time even now (for instance, I still watch every new Conan episode and movie)
Edit: Actually, I just thought of a series that I really liked that isn't oldschool. Outlaw Star. I had such a huge crush on Melfina ...

1.- Naruto (started ok againstht zabuza, then it went downhill with kiddy repetitive plots and fillers) 2.- Ninja Scroll (the animation cuality is pathetic and the plot is retarded) 3.- Dragon Ball X (kiddy scum full of fillers)
how can you say ninja scroll is overrated? The quality is bad? wtf you talking about. Best fight scene ever when hes fighting that rock guy and his fucking skull slides down that blade. you cant top that shit.
Am i the only perrson that found berserk pseudo gay? it only started to get good on the last 2-3 episodes the rest was kinda, well, gay.
sorry but ninja scroll's animation is awful, example here:
thats some low quality shit, also the plot is stupid for fucks sake, guys made of stone and guys that looks like spiders? sorry but thats too retarded for my taste.
now compare that shitty animation to real animation like the early episodes of Hellsing, just look at the deatil int he glove.
And no, Berserk is probably one of the bests (if not the best) anime ever made, the characters are perfectly developed, the plot is perfectly developing in a good pace, the time itself is congruent even in the aspects or armors, the detail in every aspect of it its unvelibable, the last 2-3 episodes are the ones where the gods reveal themselves (the manga carries on on that) so if thats what you liked you dont want adult animes u should keep watching dragon ball Z and naruto.

Is this Laputa you are referring to? It was nice I was like 6 when i saw it for the first time at a friend's place.
Elfen lied is good really. But my opinion about the DB, DBZ etc episodes is that they are really overrated - after all I don't like animes with no final - it's like the latino serials with123124 episodes
I like animes with strong and not so long storyline...
I don't have a top 3 since there are too many to choose from
One Piece Black Lagoon S1 & S2(currently airing) School Rumble S1&S2
Noir(if you like Noir then watch Madlax), 12 Kingdoms, and Last Exile are good if you like good, flowing storylines as opposed to the more common animes such as Naruto and Bleach where its just comprised of many arcs.

it's a different style. neither is "worse." the difference is purely aesthetic.
There are some good rating sites, and this one is pretty good with moderators, so no narutard driven reviews for example. Anyways take a look at the ratings. There are shows where people either loved it or hated it, dont take teh average rating so seriously in that case.
I watched the kenshin ova because of its rating there, didn't like the tv series at all, but the ova is pwnsome. KGNE and Elfen too, but i saw first episode before.

i just look to see whats out on tokyotoshokan.com then animenfo to see if it looks good or not.
1. Hikaru no Go. Great characters, great story, great music... great everything. Probably the anime I was the most addicted to. 2. Berserk. Just plain awesome and stylish. Griffith is one of the most charismatic anime characters I've watched. 3. Gundam Seed. It's flawed (sometimes highly repetitive, esp. in the ~12ish first eps, sometimes kind of overly dramatic, etc.) but it's still amazing. 3 (tied). Elfen Lied. Just a piece of art as far as I'm concerned. The ambiance especially is fantastic.
Special mentions: Hajime no Ippo (btw Takamura = funniest character ever), Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto (the 80ish first eps are awesome).

90% of the shows these days comes from some other "source" (ie the screenplay isnt original). Might be from a manga, PC game, novel, etc. And I tend to have heard of or have read these originals... and then the anime is shit
Others I kinda hear about from reading japanese news sites (if it's a large scale one)

Don't get me wrong, Hellsing is cool and all, but it's kinda a girl thing in it's "coolness". Which is why it's my little sis's and some of her friend's favourite anime.
And you say NS's animation is bad?? WTF? It's one of the most beautiful out there, so smooth and dynamic. Kinda like Cyber City OEDO 808's - love that style. Certainly beats Berserk's animation - I think that show deserved a bit better graphics :/ Oh btw, keep in mind that NS is from '93 while Hellsing is '01. And I still like NS's graphic more :/
What I don't get mostly tho, is that you praise Berserk so highly (which is undoubtedly a godly anime and an even godlier manga) but don't like Ninja Scroll? Uhh, NS and Berserk are one and the same in coolness, both main characters are absolutely awesome.

Well It's because u have to choose the best from the best ---- And I just don't like Bleach 2. It's taste - I don't really like loooongg animes. I told that already ^_^ Just matter of taste - if i don't like one thing this doesn't mean that u don't have to like it either! I'm currently watching Mushishi and I think it has wonderful animation and really good thoughts (btw the music is really awesome) - but it isn't so childish and doesn't have a "hero" with special abilities or godlike "toys". It is really phylosophical and not for everybody.
1. Fruits Basket (If you can't find something to like in this, something is wrong with you ^^) 2. Rurouni Kenshin TV (The Trust/Betrayel OVAs ironically rank among the worst anime I have seen..... the manga version of that story is sooo much better even) 3. His and Her Circumstance (aka Kare Kano).
Notable mentions: Spiral (if only the ending didn't suck.....though the explanations for loose ends one can pull out of the air for things can be funny ^^), Crest/Banner of the stars (a bit slow at time though...), and Yu-Gi-Oh (oh, not that one on TV - I'm talking about the actual good dub and story re-write that was made, for those that still haven't seen it: ).
Not many gundam funs there =O? I only saw few gundam mentioned. For me, these were the top 3 Gundams
1. Turn A Gundam It's just too unique. Charaters and story is so amazing. Not to mention that it's funny. The song "Moon" is probably the best gundam theme song ever. No shame to 20 year anniversary Gundam ! (though I would liked to see more connections with older gundams) + Show Spoiler +
Missile launcher malfunctioning? No problem!! Just grab the missle and throw it at the enemy!! Fighting MS with a cannon ball? No problem!! Though the cannon ball might just land a meter in front of the MS and bounce up high in the air alerting the enemy. Your Gundam's head fell off during the battle because of half ass maintenance? No problem!! Just screw it back on during the battle!!
2. Z Gundam This is a really solid gundam show. I just like it over the first and ZZ because of the MS design (Z and Hyakushiki are too cool ><!). And it's an allstar featuring a lot of the UC casts :D. Not much funny stuff though =x.
3. W Gundam I'm weird. I like weird characters. Some says even women watch this show just because of the political and confusing story. To me that's just BS. + Show Spoiler +
Featuring Crazy double personality lady. Crazy suicidal self-destructing killing machine. Crazy rich kid who becomes insane when pissed. Crazy war fetish double layer eyeblow girl. Crazy idealistic girl who got fetish for ppl trying to kill her.
Hornorable Mentions
G Gundam Gundam + DBZ!! This is again so unique, it's hard to compare this with the other Gundams. But it is funny + Show Spoiler +
Losing a battle? No problem!! Just yell out of your lungs, and energy will materialize and shoot out from your Gundam's fist. What is Neo America's final weapon? Statue of Liberty Cannon!!! New age female bot! One and only, the sailor moon (noble) gundam! How do you beat the last enemy? LOVE LOVE Tenkyoukeeeen!!
Gundam Seed Destiny Seed was good, But to appreciate this half ass story unsatisfactory character development sequal, one must realize this Gundam is all about making money and good laugh. I'm pretty sure that Seed Destiny was meant to be a comedy. Because of the fact that they don't even try to hide the parody, they are presented so openly. + Show Spoiler +
Zaku! They are back! Goofu! THEY ARE BACK! "It's different. It is different from ZAKU!!!~~" ROFL! OMG DOM (TROOPERS)!! They are back, too! "JET STREAM ATTACK!!" WTF ROFLMAO! -> Seriously laughed hard. GOLDEN mobile suit with BEAM COARING? Piloted by a character who JUST LOST his MASK? We haven't seen that before!!! With all of the above. OF COURSE Kira would get funnel!

Here are the ones I have seen. Other than seed, I think they were all rented from a nearby japanese video rental store, rather than DL (I think I was watching wing during junior high... only 56K during those days, so thank god I dont need subtitles :O). Damn, $$ adds up really quick when you do it that way
Seed: i thought it was good at first but after about ep30 it became all eye-candy so i evnetually quit. Eps in the late 30's to 40's was intolerably bad.
wing: at the time i watched it i liked it but looking back it was largely eye-candy. Huge marketing success via pretty looking characters and fancy mechs. It is so distant from the UC gundams ~_~
G: it is fun i guess but very un-gundam like. Closer to the super-robot genre. Opinions divide on this one.
V: first one I saw. I was like 8 though so I didnt really get it. The wings were cool (but it's a precursor to the wing eyecandy) :O. Characters were appealing to me, much more so than say, seed or G.
X: A piece of shit. The fact that it got cut at mid-30 eps tells you how badly it was received. I mean what is there to like about this series? + Show Spoiler +
Maybe that captain dude who used to be newtype?
Turn A: watched first 3 eps and then quit. At this time I was still renting the videos and not downloading them, so maybe I should check it out.
0083: Personal favorite. The director keeps producing quality series after quality series (macross plus, this, bebop, etc)
08MS platoon: back to gundam roots. No eye candy is thnx.
F91: I want to watch this :O Gyakushuu no Char: I should watch it but I never got around to it. Not sure if i want to go back and watch the original, Z, ZZ, and 0080... seems like it's be such a hassle and playing pretty much all the SRW's since SRWEX has given me a decent idea about the plot ~_~
So the ones I have seen are Seed, X, Wing, V, G, 0083. Really bad b/c I should watch the UC ones...
I'd rank them like this.
1) 0083 2) V
3) G <-- this is only here b/c of childhood memories of the show. For an objective "gundam" ranking, I'd put it at the bottom. 4) Wing 5) Seed 6) X
1) Robotech !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2) Zodiac Knights (In spanish its Caballeros del Zodiaco, I think thats the translation) 3) Bugs Bunny. OH WAIT thats not anime lol
haha I was liek "wtf why is a guy who has seen Z rank G, Seed, and Wing so high... then I read the spoilers and it made sense I guess -___-
I never saw Seed D but... wtf they used THAT many oldschool references? did they use 「ザクとは違うのだよ!ザクとは!」from whoever it was back in UC? :O
G - I wanted to just stop watching when that occurred in the last ep T_T. On a side note, touhoufuhai is so hilarious.
Exact phrase. At least you have some time to prepare or suspect this. But Dom Troopers (yeah 3 of them!) coming out ALL the SUDDEN and doing JET STREAM ATTACK (they say it) 1 min later was just gold to me.

Ah yeah forgot about Monster. I must say I didn't get as addiced as I did with some other animes, but objectively, it's a fantastic anime in every single possible aspect, and far more mature than most. I highly recommend it.
Naruto got boring with all the fillers. FMA was damn good. I'm kind of tempted to say Pokémon simply because I was 10 when it came out and it was just so good. Nostalgia ftw.

THERES NO OTHER ANIME that was as fun as naruto and kept you watching until you couldnt. Samurai X has more epsodes than Naruto, im pretty sure. And so does One Piece.

I made a post about the longest running anime shows of all time on page 2 of this thread http://gameshop.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?currentpage=2&topic_id=46650 midway down the page. The top ranking show is Sazaesan at 36 (!!) years. Some "popular" shows the western world has most likely seen/heard of include: Detective Conan: 8+ years, DBZ: 6+ years(i dont think this number includes original or GT), ONE PIECE: 6+ years.
SamuraiX does not have more eps than naruto. It consisted of 94 episodes aired on TV network, a 95th episode that was never aired, 1 movie, and 2 OVA seies. Naruto has 200+ aired TV episodes?

Naruto is indeed over 200 episodes, but as many as half of them are just fillers. Even though they have material they can use from the manga, they were closing in too fast on the limit of the storyline that the manga had achieved, so they threw in a gazillion fillers that did absolutely nothing for the plot, in which the content was less matuer than usual (seriously, compare any filler episode to episode 17 where Kakashi punches right through Haku's chest with blood everywhere).
Does anyone else hate fillers as much as I do? They tear down a good show.
Fillers are the fate of a show whose motivation is to get viewers, make money, sell merchandise, and make it go long as possible in order to milk everything out of it. However it is true that fillers are becoming worse, mainly because manga become animation quicker than ever, in order to capitalize on their popularity. If say a series usually got animated after 3-4 years of publication 10 years ago, then today a series will go to the TV screen in 1-2 years. This shortens the "buffer" of plot available to the screenplay writers, and forces fillers.
It's nothing new, but it "has" gotten worse. And because naruto has inherited the throne of the #1 japanese boys' anime, it probably has it the worst.

Naruto fillers are absolutely horrible for the most part, however the Bleach fillers arent as bad imo. However, the Bounto arc has been going on forever, they need to finish it up and move on to something else, like the manga storyline -_-.
My favourite 3 so far... Full Moon wo Sagashite (awesome ending btw - music grows on you too). Gundam Seed (lots of people like it too) mmm I guess Crest of the Stars (great storytelling/setting/background/story), or Kimi ga nozomu eien (worse then I thought, but still quite nice cos of its reality (if you can call it that))...

Perfect blue confused the hell out of me especially the ending. I couldn't tell which was reality and which wasnt. Akira was abit confusing too .hack is the most confusing thing i ever saw
Hmm my classical all time favorite animes 1. RUROUNI KENSHIN!!!! Oh god i love this so much 2. Pokemon i used to cry watching the movies and wake up early in the morning to watch it 3. Gundam Wing i used to stay up late at to see it on cartoon network at midnight toonami i guess you can add sailor moon, digimon, dragonball z if you want haha
Ones i really like Elfen Lied,Evangelion, naruto manga is good, deathnote manga fun too, final fantasy advent children was cool Lots more but forgot The few episodes i watched of Bebop was cool and grave of the fireflies made me feel so sad.
I watched it when i was like 13 and every episode i watched and summaries synopis i read made me even more confused.
If you guys are talking about how good the anime looked Appleseed looked mad nice. Like they used computer and than like added sketch lines so it looks drawn or something. The landscape in that movie was awesome just the story was not original. Ghost in the shell looked cool too.
Has anyone seen Kite. Its hentai but its actually well made imo. Sad too.
Well I understood that it was a game and that the characters were living inside of it. There were different worlds... Typical mmorpg type stuff except one of the characters couldn't ever log off his game.

-The constant retarded pseu-hentai inuendos that has nothing to do with the plot at all, like the rock guy trying to rape the girl in NS, or that busty girl in Vampire Hunter
-The simplistic good vs evil plots and cliché situations, good guy trying to save the kidnapped girl from the bad boys, repetitive guy facing enemies tougher and tougher till they meet the final boss zomg, sotty but only 10yo kids enjoy simplistic plots.
- absolutely zero character development, there are no motives, backgrounds, explanations, just a guy who decided to be evil cuz the hell of it, always a girl in distress with no personality at all, just weak bitch that falls in love with the hero.
- stupid childish animation for no reason, like an enemy that looks like a spider and has 4 arms... what in the fuck its a ninja fight why is there some fucking spider mutant that spits acid in there?
The thing is, these animes were pioneers in their time, but they were for KIDS, kids dont want to see a fight between two "ambiguos" caracters no good or evil, and one gets slained and his family starves to death rofl... they want to see hero fights spider mutant ninja!!!.
And yeah as i said i love HellSing because ive always adored the whole Vlad Tepe (cond drakul) story, the plot isnt that good but it doesnt suck, plus the initial animation is definitelly top notch, they used shining reflection like no other anime ever has, too bad they changed animators and the quality went downhill veeery fast.
Berserk's animation is average, however its plot is definitelly the best and more complex, the anime was too short and they left out very important parts, its definitelly an adult anime, Miura took care of developing each caracter with a lot of deatil there isnt A SINGLE character in the anime you cant describe, griphith, gatz, pippin, judeau... for fucks sake those were like 3rd lvl characters that barely appeared yet they were perfectly defined.
There arent any good/evil things going on Berserk, Griphith is a very egocentric character that doesnt care about others and only cares about his goal... Gatz is a violent killing machine who loves death, so no simple monodimentional characters.
Also there isnt silly non-explained stuff, Gatz doesnt carry a huge sword to be the cool guy (as its very commonly done), its perfectly explained, Gatz was found barely alive inside his dead hanged mother, obviously he was hated because of that so he were raised by a local thief who trained him with a normal sword when he was a child, and killed his dad and the guy who were fucking him (his dad sold him to prostitution)with a full wrong man sword.
Anyway that was a huge post, and berserk is way way way ahead of any other anime series.

apparently that guy was some girl in a coma or something like that.
But Great Teacher Onizuka is my fackin favorite. UNTOUCHABLE in greatness. It's funny. It's mildly good manneredly-perverted. It's also got character. Then Slam Dunk is pretty good. I even used to have blazing red hair like the hero. It's funny. It's got character. It also has characters... that I like. Basketballlllllll!!!!!!!! And.... One Piece.. because while Ninjas suck in general and aren't in many cool things.... Pirates are amazing.
There are too many good series (e.g. Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Boogiepop Phantom, Noir, His and Her Circumstances, or Brother, Dear Brother) that I could've put as #3, so I went for the hamster sex
Whats so confusing about .hack//sign ? Heres a little summary. A kid who is Put into a coma from a glitch in the game has had his Sub-Conscience locked in the game and hes trying to figure out why and how. I watched this when i was about twelve.. So Forgive me if Im being stupid but... That about sums up the plot... and everything that would be confusing...

mmm, i know that the leaf/key games tend to have decent~good plot in general, so i might as well go play the original than watch a remake . I hear a lot of pple cry when playing that game :O
I just watched Elfen Lied - and i don't think it's the best anime i have ever seen as many of u say. I don't think it's even in my top3 animes. Nevermind it's matter of taste
well, i'd say it is hard to appreciate elfen as i appreciate it. I'm the type of person who really can forget and forgive a lot of things. The show had a lot of depth as well, if you were to ignore the set ups and plot holes. Oh well, at least I feel it is a genuine show that tried to do something.
1. Elfen Lied (Most quality everything - ever; really, a step up in character development, storyline, music, animation, pacing) 2. Cowboy Bebop (Not liking Spike is like not liking Boxer in Starcraft) 3. Fullmetal Alchemist (Variable quality sometimes, but solid anime with lots of heart) 4. Samurai Champloo (Gets better every time I watch it... Characters are what drive this anime) 5. Neon Genesis Evangelion (A classic; sets the standard for all subsequent giant robots and emo 15 year olds) 6. Last Exile (Animation is amazingly silky and stylish; story is a little weak at the end) 7. Trigun (First half was painful to watch b/c of the goofy stories... Second half got serious real quickly and is very memorable) 8. X TV (A little quirky sometimes, but the Sorata storyline is very good)

After so many comments on how good Elfen Lied is, I downloaded it.
It was, at best, above average. The animation was poor (but the drawing was good, if you know what I mean) and the story was a bit contrived. The whole thing seemed very stilted. Cowboy Bebop and FLCL absolutely blow something like Elfen Lied out of the water.

For those who haven't watched FMA try it - the first 4-5 episodes ain't so great but after that when u become more in hand with the story, the anime grabs u and.... I just can't explain it!!

I also like Juuni Kokki but can't find any eps > 45, don't think they ever were aired
I watched and thought it was pretty good, and most likely better on written form (b/c it looked very condensed and abbreviated in animated form). I think I dl'ed the novel scans (at least most of them) but never got around to reading them... did I mention how painful it is to read 300 page novels on a pc screen? (((

Cowboy Bebop I agree is sex0rz, but FLCL was just a bukakke hemorrhage of weird shit. How can you say the animation was poor? O well, I guess everyone has their own opinion...
Anyone ever watch Akagi? I just finished watching and although I found the animation to be really annoying at first (funny character faces), I got over it and just enjoyed the show.
It's about Mahjong, just like Hikaru No Go except the show is much, much darker and its 26 eps long. It's set around the 1960's in Japan when yakuza gang's were aplenty. Despite the funny animation, and not knowing how to play Mahjong, it was quite entertaining and now I sort of want to learn how to play, just so I can watch it again and know what exactly was going on, but I'm too lazy. Anyways, I recommend it (subbed by Triad).

Well that's because production stopped as there's no more material on Yoko in the novels, unless the auther decides to release new ones. The anime is based off Yoko because the need of a central character to draw enough audience, as Juuni Kokki was never in the main stream since it's adopted from novels rather than popular comic series. There are a whole host of interesting characters that got mentioned in the anime that were developed a lot more in the novels. If it's finished, I think it has potential to be top 3 material(at least the crew knew how to make recap episodes and fillers PROPERLY).
New favorite anime on my number one list GOLDEN BOY STUDY STUDY STUDY. I just love it sooooo much. I was seriously grabbing my chest because it hurt laughing so much. In episode 3 with the corkscrew kiss i fell off my chair. In the fourth where he literally drowns than stands up i died. And its so touching and its about life. Too bad its only 6 episodes T.T. Manifesto7 its not on crunchyroll anymore. It says this anime is licensed T.T i had to watch it on youtube. And both subtitle and dub versions are awesome.

I "think" there was quite a lot of unanimated content in the manga (considering it's like 7 volumes or w/e) that you could try to find, since you're in korea (right?) and I bet they have it translated somewhere there.
honestly, golden boy is one of the few anime that i enjoyed better dubbed than subtitled. The voice for the dubbing is so much funnier than the original.
haji I will try to find it, but reading japanese is still difficult for me
Indeed, dubbing often seems to ruin anime. I especially hate when the dubbed version acctually has different dialogue because 99% of the time the dubbed dialogue is worse than the subtitled dialogue.

I stopped watching that show on episode 3, picked it up again, cannot watch it after around 20 or something. Every character annoyed the hell out of me, ranked by how often they repeat an unexamined phrase that sounds cool. "law of exchange" harharhar, way to go base your life on a phrase as mythical as alchemy. only kids can enjoy being propagandized to like that. Seriously, teach me something by showing it, not repeating it a billion times. I'm not watching a lecture here. The story totally did not grab me at all during the first 25 episodes or something that i watched. They just teleport some guys to arbitrary places, and introduce new characters that I guess I'm supposed to care about because they look cool. Everything is the same, some guy gets a power, and abuses it. Why are particular usages abuse? Because...we drew it like that, and we all know killing people is bad.
Another thing that annoyed me about the show, at least the part i've watched, is how nonchalantly the State gets introduced into the story like some default state of being. Why is the idea of duty important? Why are military ranks important? No idea! It just is, and ed is a cool rebel! lool. Please make it deeper than that.
About the attempt at realism, we get it, things are not as easy in life as in anime, but do show why we should behave "realistically" by more than circumstantial and statistical arguments.
1. Samurai Champloo - Some really nice action. Quite funny from start to finish. 2. Bleach - Very well made. Too bad they're in fillers right now and I haven't watched it for months. 3. Gundam Seed - Apart from all the drama, how can you not love giant robots blasting and cutting through each other in space?
So I started watching Elfen Lied because of how everyone here was praising it. I'm on ep 6
It's pretty good... I mean... the animation imo is on par with Bebop sometimes, nothing THAT amazing though. The story is pretty out there, but most good animes have weird stories like that. Some of the plot holes are pretty apparent already. Personally, I like anime's that are able to come up with explanations for things. The romance in Elfen Lied is kinda cheesy. [ Keep in mind only on ep 6 ] I've seen better. I do like the outright violence and how they aren't too afraid to use nudity... But I keep having the feeling that they overuse it's shock effect. I really like the music. It's all good so far, not that much variety though.
It's a cool concept, but a little too much emphasis on nudity and girls... It's doing something right though, I'm still watching it.

Elfen Lied tries waaaaay to hard at just about everything.
as a new entry, you guys should check out Death Note. it's only new but it's fucking awesome. if you like bleach, chances are you'll like this one too.
But still i like Elfen Lied. It made me cry and than laugh at some parts. The thing is the character looooook toooo childish. I find it like the anime has like two sides the light and the dark. You see girls with eyes half the size of their face and the next i see bodies flying. I liked it and its not that long too. I wish the manga for it was translated though. And the ending was too left so much to be answered. Oh and the ending for people who watched when the clock got fixed and it showed someone behind the door and the dog noticed. It was Lucy right? It had a good character development you knew something about each character. Wish theres a Elfen Lied 2.
My favs right now Kenshin, Golden boy and gto. Gto the music when hes giving an advice on life oh its so beautiful. I was crying when Tomoko was doing the call to miyabi's answering machine. Golden Boy just killed me on the first episode. When the woman spits and he catches it with his mouth and his fetish for toilets. I was laughing so hard watching that.
edit. deathnotes first arc was really really fun addicting and good. The second arc was all right. I read the manga and its fun.
I think the most impressive part of elfen was the storyline, and that it was told without excessive action set-ups like those in black lagoon, for example. Elfen lied is a tragic drama and a deep reflection, and it actually tries to be this. All the flashy stuff like super powers are not pushed into the focus of the viewer's attention, they are just stage pieces for drama. The gore and such are not what the series is about, obviously. The pacing of the show really made it, a pretty "clean" piece of storytelling.
Elfen Lied tries waaaaay to hard at just about everything.
I dont understand. Did you feel that too many characters distracted from the emotional focus of the story?
I felt that Elfen Lied was trying to be something that the creators weren't capable of creating. The story was asinine (a bunch of mutants trying to destroy the human race -- but oh! lets through in a love triangle involving a college student, his cousin, and one of the homicidal mutants (who has a split personality disorder, no less)!), the animation was way to glossy, and the characters evoked no emotional response from me (mostly because they were idiots). You could tell they tried really hard to do something with it, but they failed. But, even so, I guess it wasn't awful. The fighting was pretty cool.
When you compare Elfen Lied to an anime like FLCL, where the characters are extremely well developed, the story is intriguing and really requires some deep thought to fully understand, and where the animation really stands head and shoulders above almost every other anime ever produced -- well, it just doesn't stack up.
I really enjoyed Elfen Lied. I thought it could have been done better, but it kept me hooked and I couldn't stop watching as I watched all the DVD's straight. And if a show does that, it's good. But agreed as I got to the last episodes, it could have been better. But i'd rather not complain about a good thing.
The story was asinine (a bunch of mutants trying to destroy the human race -- but oh! lets through in a love triangle involving a college student, his cousin, and one of the homicidal mutants (who has a split personality disorder, no less)!
I do not think that is the intended story at all. The story was how Lucy developed as a human being, and was a commentary on the basic idea of human identity and alienation. The usual mutant shows focus on the mutant powers, but elfen uses it as a background for thought experiment-ish situations that are interesting to consider.
i haven't watched FLCL yet, but if you think elfen lied is about a bunch of mutants killing people, watch it again.

Obviously there was some subtext, but the top layer doesn't just evaporate because of it. The themes they explore are within the story I outlined, and that story is really pretty dumb. What they wanted to say could have easily been said through other more eloquent methods that didn't involve a guy crushing on his cousin and a mutant with schizophrenia that ruthlessly murdered people in a needlessly violent and graphic way, and who took her clothes off (or simply did not put any on) for no evident reason.

Well, rather than treating the setting as the top layer, maybe try some abstraction when viewing anime in general, especially seeing how the show emphasis "subtext." Are you implying that the mutant etc are dictating the plot of the show, rather than the personalities? Were there situations in which the purpose of the plot is to create a flashy action sequence? Does everything have to occur in a high school/college setting to relate to people? The setting wasn't very relevant to the story past the set up for these personalities to interact, and there were well developed personalities. The Lucy character is one fo the greatest in all of anime, imo, because of the situations she faced and her responses.

FLCL is pretty difficult to grasp at first, and if you don't like the seemingly random story, you'll probably never be patient enough to sit through it the requisite number of times to fully understand it. It's really not all that random (though the hyperactive nature of the animation can make it seem that way at first).

The emphasis was definitely the subtext, and the mutants etc. were simply ways to get across the themes. I agree. I simply think that far better subjects could have been chosen. It didn't need to have sensational ultra-fighting mutants or silly love sick teens. I agree, the Lucy character faced an interesting dilemma (her plight was the only interesting thing in the show), but I didn't think her character itself was very interesting beyond that.

Ok, I know that sometimes setting can wreck the perception of the show, sigh. Unfortunate. I'll check out FLCL later.
But i do not think the choice of the setting is arbitrary or only relevant to the setting. The story literally requires uncommon perceptions of things to work (otherwise it will turn into higurashi), and pretty much teh only way is to do a mutant show where certain evils are introduced without tainting the characters. I dont see anything like this done too often in anime, so that's why I think elfen didn't do too bad.
Deathnote really is worth the watch, it started out so slow but then there was a point where I just went like WTF cool hehe. Hooked ever since and can't wait for the new eps at the end of this week I believe.
I really enjoyed Elfen Lied, I didn't enjoy FLCL at all. Just not my cup of tea and each to his own. No doubting taste.
I and saw it as a tale of Lucy's humanitizing as well instead of the world comming to an end. Just a peek of that things aren't neccisarily going to be as bad as they depicted it. That the Dyno's could love and live in peace but that their violent part is some weird violent/teenager phase in their first few years. They never really got a chance (which is perfectly understandable though hehe) and this story is about how they can turn out way other then expected.
hehe has anyone watched rozen maiden? Am I the only one who see deep christian allegories behind this wonderful piece of sometimes inane but always entertaining art?
Death note is a good detective story, but I was disasppointed at how they managed to turn an interestin concept into just a detective story. What about the inner reflections of Light, maybe they'll bring more of taht to the show later on through flashbacks. The theory is, 95% of all character development in anime is done through flashbacks, the other 5% is composed of random freak inspirations caused by getting hit too hard on the head by teh main villain, or showin episodes out of order so that the audience is duped into the characters as in SHnY. (SHnY is rather brilliant in this)

I went and read the manga in japanese, and it was pretty good. It was much better than 90% of the mainstream stuff these days. According to the japanese wikipedia, the ending parts for the manga and anime versions differ. Seems the anime one was cheesier and had an happier ending, but I cant confirm b/c I havent actually watched it.
I discussed the goods and bads with oneofthem over PM back in November and dont really feel like repeating myself here though.
The anime has very good pacing and dialogue in certainsituations, for other aspects of it, it isn't spectacular. But it did manage to tell the story in a compelling, movin way. I think only chapter 1 to 7 of the manga was animated, so less plot wrenching compared to the manga probably. The way elfen story finished is kinda silly, imo. but the characters are certainly strong.

Rofl... that series actually made me interested in Mahjong. It's quite stylish although the last few episodes are drawn out so much that it starts to become like DBZ. ;p But Akagi is an awsome main character.
Anyhow, I don't watch anime but Yu Yu Hakusho is my favorite anime. It's like Dragon Ball but the characters are actually believable (as well as memorable) and there's a reason to care about the plot. Eva is almost perfect until the last few mind fucking episodes. I suppose I could stick Haruhi Suzimiya somewhere in there for its great animation, even though the fandom of that anime tends to be overly obsessed with stupid things. The theme song to it as well as Eva are some of my favorite songs.
My top 3 as of right now would have to be the 3 movies in the Z Gundam: A New Translation series (Heirs to the Stars, Lovers, Love is the Pulse of the Stars)
I hated Z Gundam when I first saw it. Particularly, I hated the dialouge ("THAT GUY!", "YOU!", "WHAT'S THAT VOICE?!", ugh, fucking annoying) and I felt the lead character was horrible. I guess I was just too young to appreciate it at the time because now that I'm older, I love it. Loved all 3 movies. Love Z Gundam.
Edit: Might seem weird picking 3 movies of the same series, but I hardly watch anime anymore. Also, I wouldn't rush into these 3 films without any knowledge of the previous series since they feel more like "compilation" films than a movie trilogoy.
1) Bleach - I didn't like it in the beginning, but then I've been stuck on it since about the 70th episode, dling every episode as soon as I find them
2) Full Metal Alchemist - The best story I've watched so far. I didn't find the characters to be as good as in bleach, but the plot is very good.
3) Great Teacher Onizuka - I don't usually laugh when watching animes, but this one is funny as hell. It doesn't try too hard and isn't repetetive as lots of animes tend to be.
Right now, I'm watching rurouni kenshin, but it got pretty boring in the Kyoto part. I'm at the 61th episode now and it's going downhill . Will keep watching, though
What the fuck Death Note has been Licensed today, Now they've dropped the fan subbing. God Fuck Licensing! Why did they have to do it at the Climax of the series, I'm seriously fucking pissed off. Mother fucking fucks!

1.- Naruto (started ok againstht zabuza, then it went downhill with kiddy repetitive plots and fillers) 2.- Ninja Scroll (the animation cuality is pathetic and the plot is retarded) 3.- Dragon Ball X (kiddy scum full of fillers)
how can you say ninja scroll is overrated?
And no, Berserk is probably one of the bests (if not the best) anime ever made, the characters are perfectly developed, the plot is perfectly developing in a good pace, the time itself is congruent even in the aspects or armors, the detail in every aspect of it its unvelibable, the last 2-3 episodes are the ones where the gods reveal themselves (the manga carries on on that) so if thats what you liked you dont want adult animes u should keep watching dragon ball Z and naruto.
dude, look at animation of 98% of anything made before 1999 and its gonna suck compared with some of the best animation on series nowadays (like deathnote, ova level animation right there i just hope they can keep it up). things back then just didnt look as good. even akira doesnt look all the great now compared to when it came out
I actually despise how animation looks today. They dont move smoothly, are CG rendered and almost always look god awful. Longlasting series that have been on for over a decade look like shit and have lost the essence of the flari, style, and original feel they used to have. Talent and quality has largely been replaced with cheap, easy to do procedures that can be mass-produced.
The new Doraemon is a joke, combined with the new voice actors. New Lupins are absolutely awful as well. I'll take the 70's TV series over that, and 99% of you will think the 70's version has "bad" animation. I beg to differ.
First anime that used CG i think was Macross Plus, in 1994(?) 1992(?). OVA series with 4 episodes. Same director as Cowboy Bebop, Gundam 0080, among others.
oh, for some reason i just like the way animation is nowadays. there seems to be more detail in character design and background setting, i guess its easier to use computers to help with that than in the old days when everything had to be hand drawn. before it was super obvious there would be as little movement as possible so there is less drawing the animators would have to do. but now, even though it happens still nowadays, animators have seem to gotten better at it by either doing it less or having a good enough frame that can stand still for a while.
Perhaps the advent of CG has helped the lowest quality of shows rise, but I believe it has also caused the highest quality of animation to go down, I feel.
They choose a look that sells. Problem? Everyone follows this rule, and the vast majority of shows will employ the same general look and feel of characters.

This is real human proportions. (sort of)
LUCY!!! ^_^ I thought Appleseed had really nice animation. The ocean and background looked really beautiful and almost real. Too bad the anime itself wasnt really great. Final Fantasy Advent Children looked really nice too. Tifa her hair looks so real and smooth. Anyone liked Trigun? I had some pretty good laughs with that.
Eva series was really good. Just the ending was abit confusing especially like 26. And end of evangelion.

I never saw past the 60's for Kenshin and its my fav anime. The anime caught up with the manga so different producer made the last 30 episodes sucks. I CANT BELIEVE THEY NEVER ANIMATED THE JINCHU ARC!!! All they give is an 10 min section in like the second Ova t.t. The first ova was the best though. No oro or ryu tsu sen. Just cold blooded Himura Battousai^^. I have to read the manga though.
Only thing close to hentai i saw was Kite and Perfect Blue. But i remember something with sailor moon and dragonball z. Kite would have been much better if they didnt make it hentai. Good storyline. Perfect blue was too confusing to even comment on.

Watched Trigun like 8 years ago or something. It was good, but good god the manga is 10x better --;;
Kenshin manga went downhill after Shishio. It was still alright but you could tell it wasnt really the same.
I bought Perfect Blue (the book)... yea it'll be interesting reading that thing...

It's associated with the specific animations style that Japan has employed for decades, which is quite distinct from western animation. The shows' target audience can be anywhere from 5~20+ years old.

manga is still ongoing last time I bothered checking.

Quick question, i haven't read anything in this thread, im not a fan of anime, but what i love is the art work that comes with anime, anyone know some website with like high quality anime pics, more specifically with female badass characters, i would like some wallpapers and google search gives me crappy ones. I'm looking for those female characters in like sexy poses, i don't even know if its anime, maybe its just comic books. I remember in high school i had this witchblade comic book and the main character was all over the comic book in sexual poses. thats sort of what i''m lookin for. Female characters in almost naked but not completely naked poses. i love those pics

Brace yourself for a random spattering of tentacle rape while you're at it.
I guess I'll contribute late to the topic my three (series):
1. Cowboy Bebop 2. Samurai Champloo 3. Neon Genesis Evangelion (this gets the "at least it tries, which is more than you can say elsewhere" award)

well even the authos of the manga dont have the right to upload content that was published in magazines onto their site, but sometimes their websites have some original crap they decide to share.
Used to be pretty into it, but I found it hard pressed to get into it more, plus its quite the expensive hobby >_< But anyways here we go:
Akira - Classic, and the CGI of it was very advanced for its time (I forgot the exact year but it was in the 80s.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Confusing as hell lol. People either love the complexity of the storyline or hate it. Theres no even ground on this one...
Thats really all I remember lol, and really some of the very few animes that dont involve some loser trying to get with some hot girl but fails time and time again, those types probably account for at least 60% of them it seems.
Had a friend of mine check animesuki for me and found nothing there related to DN. Maybe she wasn't looking deep enough <.< took a look @ isohunt and yes found a few good ones. Liveevil rocks. Thanks much appreciated! *thumb up*

1. Full Metal Alchemist 2. Death Note(I have only read the manga, but I have heard they released the anime) 3. Slam Dunk(also only read the manga, which is a lot better than the anime)
