As a Gibli film, it comes after Grave of the fireflies and Naussica for me. As a Miyazaki film, it's also preceded by Lupin III Castle of Caliostro.
It wasnt the highest grossing movie of alltime in japan for nothing though

Wow, amazed another person has seen and liked Juuni Kokki. Sad it is unfinished and the novels are not coming out any time soon. Great story though.

1. Elfen Lied (Most quality everything - ever; really, a step up in character development, storyline, music, animation, pacing)
After so many comments on how good Elfen Lied is, I downloaded it.
It was, at best, above average. The animation was poor (but the drawing was good, if you know what I mean) and the story was a bit contrived. The whole thing seemed very stilted. Cowboy Bebop and FLCL absolutely blow something like Elfen Lied out of the water.

^_^ this is what I mean - and on top for me comes FullMetal Alchemist This is really the best story i have ever saw in anything (i haven't watched films with better storyline and never read a book with better story - and I read lot of books ). For those who haven't watched FMA try it - the first 4-5 episodes ain't so great but after that when u become more in hand with the story, the anime grabs u and.... I just can't explain it!!

I watched and thought it was pretty good, and most likely better on written form (b/c it looked very condensed and abbreviated in animated form). I think I dl'ed the novel scans (at least most of them) but never got around to reading them... did I mention how painful it is to read 300 page novels on a pc screen? (((
It was good but not top 3 basically~__~

How can you say the animation was poor? O well, I guess everyone has their own opinion...

Anyone ever watch Akagi? I just finished watching and although I found the animation to be really annoying at first (funny character faces), I got over it and just enjoyed the show.
It's about Mahjong, just like Hikaru No Go except the show is much, much darker and its 26 eps long. It's set around the 1960's in Japan when yakuza gang's were aplenty. Despite the funny animation, and not knowing how to play Mahjong, it was quite entertaining and now I sort of want to learn how to play, just so I can watch it again and know what exactly was going on, but I'm too lazy. Anyways, I recommend it (subbed by Triad).

Well that's because production stopped as there's no more material on Yoko in the novels, unless the auther decides to release new ones. The anime is based off Yoko because the need of a central character to draw enough audience, as Juuni Kokki was never in the main stream since it's adopted from novels rather than popular comic series. There are a whole host of interesting characters that got mentioned in the anime that were developed a lot more in the novels. If it's finished, I think it has potential to be top 3 material(at least the crew knew how to make recap episodes and fillers PROPERLY).

Watch it on crunchy roll if you have never seen it. It will never be matched.

Mani, please read Tokyo Daigaku Monogatari by the same author. It out-does Golden Boy in terms of "wtf" ness. :O

ah I love Golden Boy (anime), one of the funniest animes I've ever seen. I don't suppose Tokyo Daigaku Monogatari has been made into an anime as well?
