I'll always wonder why they chose to speedrun these luck based games tbh. To each his own I guess.
Judging by the fact 10's of 1000's of people were extremely entertained along with the runner. Im guessing...
Entertainment?
Stream carried on playing for ~15 seconds after i pressed pause. My PC is thinking for itself, im scared.

If he had been able to name everything 1 letter things like normal he would have had the WR by a comfortable amount. In this case being a marathon run literally fucked him out of the world record

Considering he has like 10 different pokemon run world records, it cant be only luck ><
|
Most insightful speedrun ever.

RNG runs can also be pretty refreshing in seeing how backup strats are used or different routing based on what is happening rather than pure muscle memory.
|
It's not exclusively about getting lucky. A random guy wouldn't be able to do it without ridiculous circumstances. It requires a lot of knowledge about stats, what to do when certain move hits, etc. and being able to adapt in the middle of the run.
|
Speedrunning Pokemon is a lot of fun. Surprisingly easy aswell. All you need for Pokemon runs is patience.
|
It's not only luck for sure. That is not what I'm saying.

While that's true, it also would have been nice if he caught one more lucky break (e.g., catching the Ekans earlier instead of like after 8 other Pokemon). He played near-flawlessly though, which makes it even sadder that he didn't get it.

Ofc it's not only luck. He knows everything and plays to maximize his luck. That takes incredible skill and dedication. And as to why play Pokémon, cause that's obviously his favourite game. What you think is stupid could be exactly what is attractive to this runner.

Werster is probably one of, if not, the most intelligent speedrunner out there. The amount of preparation he does for any run he does is amazing. I actually use his method of routing for my games whenever I run something new. Saying that he's just basing all of his runs on luck is just plain ignorance.

That NES is a bulldozer? Every semi-legit PC gamer just discarded the prize incentive XD

That run was really impressive. So much improvisation!

It's true that you can have a run where you play just okay, but get god-tier luck and get a WR, and other runs where you play amazing, get shit luck, and get GGd. Compare it to like SM64 which is just "how fucking good are you at this game"
