well Qb3 is an obvious candidate to c5 there is a huuuge difference in not risking a loss in game 1 at the World Championship and practically forcing a draw on move 11 (ELEVEN, Nd5 was on move 11) this is just disrespectful to the game, to the viewers... killing esposrts, i mean chess. btw I like the way draws works and dislike the Sophia rules etc... remember the first EPIC Kasparov-Karpov match had 40 (!) draws in it, but it was a bloodbath, a mental survival game where they btw reinvented modern opening theory on the way the standard PR anwser after such short draws is utter crap. "oh, how gentlemanly of you kind sir, an exchange of ideas and information" --- i'm about to vomit. have some fcking balls if you want to be World Champion and have some fighting spirit and a killer instinct. most anticipated match since Fischer-Spassky??? LOL they're not even in the same class. P.S.: actually they are like my 2 favorite players, but they should srsly get their shit together

If you have the better position then you should play for a win, no matter if you're having black or white pieces. And everyone was agreeing that black had the slightly more comfortable position. If Anand is scared of winning then he won't become champion again.

6 wins Anand 3 wins Carlsen 20 draws Really? Do draws really happen that often between the best Grandmasters?

Do they stop early if one player can already be declared the overall winner based on points, or do they play out every day just to obtain a complete score regardless?

As soon as a player scores 6.5 points he is declared a winner.

statistically, about half of the games are decided and half of them end in draws. the scoring is also important, a win is worth 1 point, a draw is worth 1/2 point for both sides and a loss is 0 points (e.g. in soccer a win is 3 points, a draw is just 1-1 points and a loss is 0 points) in tournaments they play out all the games but in series they end it when someone reaches the critial amount of points. having a 1 on 1 match is very rare and is a special occasion (like the WC now or showmatches), most games are played in tournamnets where unlike in SC it's not a series of mini matches but every player plays every other player once or twice and the one with the highest score at the end wins. there is a rich, over a 100 year old history of WC matches with lots of controversy and drama, great story lines.

You think they lack the fighting spirit, that they are boring ? They did what they had to do, what they thought was best for them. They are not playing for your entertainment ffs.

Of course they want to win, badly, with everything on the line like the World Championship. It also means that they do whatever it takes to avoid a lost. Carlsen did that because he did not want to lose, his position was bad. Anand took it because he do not want to throw away his advantage position, and with Carlsen superior midgame play he would be more likely to lose. Thus they did what they did. You think they lack the fighting spirit, that they are boring ? They did what they had to do, what they thought was best for them. They are not playing for your entertainment ffs. WRONG they both had other options, especially Anand. I'll give you one example for each player. Anand: Ne4 instea of Nd5 - it keeps the advantage for black - Nd5 allows white to either force a draw or worsen his position (at this point of course white will try to force the draw) Carlsen: Qb3 instead of c5 this isn't critical though, but might have left more options open for white Maybe Carlsen was just too nervous, it's his first WC match after all and Anand is a legend and one of his "role models" so to speak, he definitely looks up to him. But he has to do better with white if he wants to win. As for Anand, he played brilliantly, created a fantastic initiative (with black!), there's just no reason to strive for a draw in such a situation, unless he is pussy and affraid of Carlsen outplaying him from a worse position. So no, they didn't do what they were supposed to do: fight till the very last breath and prove who is better. btw of course they are playing for the entertainment of the viewer as well as the integrity of the sport. they could settle it in a closed room you know without anyone knowing... these kind of events exist because of, and at the end payed for by the fanbase. P.S.: please back up your word about the game with actual moves or even better some analysis, thank you
