https://www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2020/feb/03/brexit-news-boris--johnson-speech-barnier-cabinet-ministers-claims-uk-does-not-need-trade-deal-with-eu-ahead-of-pms-speech-live-news The format is as of live feed so I'll spoiler the relevant part + Show Spoiler + Political journalists boycott No 10 briefing after PM's aide tried to ban selected reporters Rowena Mason Rowena Mason Political journalists walked out of No 10 Downing Street this afternoon in protest at the government planning to give a briefing on the EU only to selected reporters – banning the Mirror, i, HuffPost, PoliticsHome, Independent and others from attending. Reporters on the invited list were asked to stand on one side of a rug in the foyer of No 10, while those not allowed in were asked by security to stand on the other side. After one of Boris Johnson’s most senior advisers, Lee Cain, told the banned reporters they must leave the building, the rest of the journalists decided to walk out rather than allow Downing Street to choose who scrutinises and reports on the government. Among those who refused the briefing and walked out included the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, ITV’s Robert Peston and political journalists from the Daily Mail, Telegraph, Sun, Financial Times, and Guardian. The briefing was due to be given by government officials, who are meant to be neutral rather than political. The tactics from No 10 mirror those of Donald Trump in the US, who has been known to try to exclude journalists from reporting on his activities, and represents an escalation of Johnson’s tensions with the media, which have been growing in recent weeks. Dangerous acts by No10, but thankfully, so far journalistic integrity held and every single selected journalist walked out and boycotted the briefing. As journalists in a democracy should behave.

I have high hopes for Starmer. He needs to get to work immediately, highlighting gaps in the coronavirus laws that could be open to abuse. I'm no lawyer but I can't imagine a world where the tories would write important consequential laws without leaving horrifying loopholes in them. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/apr/04/keir-starmer-wins-labour-leadership-election Sir Keir Starmer has won the Labour leadership election with more than 56% of the vote, bringing an end to Jeremy Corbyn’s tenure of almost five years at the top of the party. Starmer, a former director of public prosecutions, won in the first round as the top choice of members, affiliates and registered supporters, with 490,731 votes cast overall. His nearest rival, Rebecca Long-Bailey, got 28% of the vote, and Lisa Nandy 16% in the final leg of the race. Angela Rayner was elected deputy leader in the third round on 53%, with the doctor Rosena Allin-Khan in surprise second place on 26% and Richard Burgon on 21%.

The only positive policy I can think of he has enacted or pushed through was to cancel the rollout of the porn block ID scheme, probably because it was scheduled to occur right after his new government formed and if there's anything for people to remember about his new government, it would be to suddenly be unable to access internet porn without having to pay for ID.

I'd put a ? next to that because I don't think you go to the hospital on a sunday night if everything is fine.

The symptoms aren't described as mild any longer though. No primary source from me, sorry about that.

Yeah pretty much wondering if people in the UK were better able to distinguish the spin and speculation from what is known. Basically would think if he could be treated from home they would do that. Like Trump probably wouldn't go to a hospital for symptoms that didn't require intubation (or might in the near future) but the UK/Boris may be different (sounds like they are).

For all of Boris's faults, he hasn't tried to deny he has caught coronavirus. If he doesn't go to a hospital for tests, where else would he go? It's expected that there would be some sort of procedure in place to make sure that any senior govenment officials would have their health checked, self isolation or not.

I'm not sure they can roll a CT scanner into No. 10 I'm assuming that's one of the tests they want to perform on him, if his symptoms haven't been improving.

CT scanner makes sense, I know our leader has a medical suite in house with ICU stuff but no idea if it has a CT scanner.
