OT: Best of Luck to TLO and Snute.
TL is a business organization, like Google, Yahoo, Chic-fil-a, or any number of other businesses which come out with formal stances on social issues in order to make themselves more attractive to employees or investors, or even to define their brand.
Pretty normal. Esports is not some weird no mans land where none of these things matter. It's a niche industry, like many others.

WHOA so THAT'S why TLO and Snute are showing such good results lately.
Congrats!

Do you apply the same rigorous standards of darwinian natural selection to all aspects of your life, or just when it suits you? Even Dawkins stated he wouldn't want to live in such a society and he's about the biggest proponent of evolution you'll find. ... I said that the primary purpose of sex is reproduction. All mammals on earth use sex as a means of reproduction. Humans are unique on this earth, but why should that change the purpose of sex? That purpose dictates the vast majority of the world's sexual preference. It might be a harsh viewpoint, but it doesn't make it any less valid. I have been saying over and over again that any biological programming or learned behavior is overshadowed by choice... Reproduction is a consequence of sex. What evidence do you have that it is the purpose? How do you know the purpose is not pleasure? Why do you think there exists a purpose in the first place? I don't want to look like I'm agreeing with that dude but reproduction is pretty much the purpose of sex. I think it's pleasurable to us so we keep doing it and so we keep reproducing. Survival and reproduction is the basic purpose of pretty much all life right? Just my two cents.
Purpose implies intent. Evolution, does not have intent (unless you subscribe to the view of evolution via intelligent design or other religious dogmas). It is simply the label for an existing natural process. So again I ask, what evidence is there for purpose or intent existing, and more specifically that it is what you say it is.

This feels really bandwagon-ish. I don't think people were dying to know what is TL's stance on LGBT, and everyone who pays a bit of attention to mods' actions knows what TL's stance on this is already.
I don't care either way. It just feels kinda out of place.

Hate to break it to you, but you share DNA with everything on the planet. Just because you are more closely related to some than others matters not, your genetics don't turn you in to a bigot...... no child is born with hatred nor with any prejudice, that is learned behaviour.
I feel sorry for all the people who frequent TL who can't see that being gay is perfectly normal, they will however be on the wrong side of history and their children will one day have to utter the line "Sorry about my dad, hes from a different generation.... he doesn't really understand"

I'm sure anyone that frequents the site could have figured out eventually where TL as an entity stands on LGBT issues. It's a nice small gesture. They're not trying to tell you how to think, they're merely telling you what they stand for and they're well within their rights to do so. If even one nerdy LGBT person happens to stumble across the site and sees the symbol and they realize maybe they have an open place to come, to not be afraid of who you are or hide, isn't that worth it? It is if you ask me.
BTW Nice story to the guy with the hand holding BF thing =)
Good on you TL.

Which is to say they are just as super racist and homophobic as the US is. No on is special, every nation has its flaws. I am actually midly offended that you would compare US to a country such as Denmark in this regard. US is literally decades, yes decades, behind when it comes to homosexuals rights. 24 years to be exact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axel_and_Eigil_AxgilIt is possible that being homosexual is no walk in the park, even in Europe, but the state in Europe is by no means comparable to the US counterpart. It really depends on which part of the US you're talking about. Here in Vermont, for example, you'll be fairly hard-pressed to find someone who has any problems with gay people. Gay marriage is also legal in Vermont, and almost nobody complained (except the Governor at that time!) when that legislation was passed. But you head down south and you'll find high-school principals who are so against homosexuality that they will go so far as to cancel the prom rather than allow a lesbian student to bring her girlfriend to it, or ban clothing with rainbows on it.

The banner itself is not a gesture, but a symbol of TL's long-standing policy of supporting LGBT rights.

Congrats to both Always great to see more acceptance for all people, especially on the internet where really negative opinions often reign.

These people are actively trying to hurt a large segment of the population for literally no reason at all. Gay marriage being legal has no negative effect on the life of a straight person, yet there are people who get so butthurt at the thought of a gay couple being recognized as equally legitimate as a straight one. To me, standing in the way of something like gay marriage when you have absolutely nothing to lose if it goes through is nothing short of sadistic; you are taking pleasure in other people's alienation. I wish I was a big enough person to feel sorry for people like that, but at this time I simply am not.

"TL loves ESPORTS, equally"
I'm so confused. Since I don't see an official thread by TL staff, is this a political move to encourage non-heterosexuals (figured that would cover everyone that that rainbow represented, with only one phrase, lol), or is TL anticipating something pertaining to eSports? The flip am I missing here? O_o

This week is one of the big ones for cities doing pride parades and such, including NY which is where the TL HQ is, so that's why there's a different logo for a bit.

No doubt. But your decision to publicly express that view in an advertorial manner isn't the same as always. Whether you acknowledge it as so or not, this is a publicity stunt.
I just want to clarify to state I'm ALL FOR THIS. In fact, a publicity stunt done that also happens to help a group of people is a double positive. I just don't like it when people pretend that it's not a calculated move. I just sort of liken this to jumping the shark for TL.
It's more a feeling than anything.

Teamliquid has always had a zero-tolerance policy for any homophobia, which has been demonstrated time and time again by the mod actions taken on their forums, among other things. How could you say that they're only doing it for publicity when they've always been pro LGBT-rights?
That's like saying that everyone who speaks out against homophobia and bigotry is "only doing it to make themselves look good".

Nothing worth arguing about here. TL decided to make their stance on LGBT be known, and sadly we live in a world today where people in the LGBT community have to wonder whether or they will be accepted for who they feel they are attracted to. I think it's a supportive gesture on TL's part and only something positive can happen from it.
