The punishment for causing a woman to miscarry is a fine, not death like it is for murder. That is the literal law. Furthermore, life throughout the bible is based on breath (specifically taking air in through the nose). So interpretively speaking, life begins at first breath, so that's birth. The bible really doesn't consider it a life until it is born. Not that I particularly care what the bible says. You're quoting exclusively the Old Testament. The New Testament is part of the Bible, and in that we have a direct quote from Jesus (the proper interpreter and ultimate authority on the meaning of Scripture) saying: "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning." -Matthew 19:8 Jesus is clearly saying here that the law Moses gave us was not the final and ultimate law, or rather, that the laws have been misinterpreted. Further evidence: 1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. John 8:1-8 (emphasis my own) Clearly, Jesus is telling us that we, and all who preceded us, do not understand the truth of the law or it's meaning. Quoting the Old Testament is useless, as those are mere words, whereas Jesus is the Truth and the Law unto Himself. Of course, this is all according to the Bible, so don't think you can get around this by saying: "I don't believe in Jesus" or "I don't believe in the Bible." What you believe about Jesus and the Bible is irrelevant to the fact of what the Bible actually says or doesn't say. What you believe is entirely up to you, what the Bible "says" is a solid fact that cannot be argued. It is one way and not the other. The rules against abortion were determined by some pope or something somewhere. It's not from the bible. The Pope, according to Catholic doctrine, is the right and lawful authority to interpret the Bible. Besides, the interpretation that is commonly accepted is that the miraculous conception is proof that conception is the true beginning of life, not birth. Christ was Christ while in Mary's womb: 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Luke 1: 39-45 There is absolutely Biblical and Scriptural support for the anti-abortion position.

Shrug, you can plenty of scripture that supports abortion as well. I think you know as well as I do that it's at the very least "up to interpretation"? Throwing out the entire old testament seems pretty bullshit to me if you actually take religion seriously. The main problem however is the actual anti-abortion laws themselves. They endanger women's lives, result in massive overreaches by the government into medical practice, or they're completely ineffectual, wasting time and money just to appease some religious crazies. Take the mandatory ultrasound laws. These don't work. Women don't change their mind after the ultrasound. So we've mandated a completely pointless (and possibly humiliating) medical procedure just appease right-wing ideologues. Stupid. How about the Arizona laws that stops abortions past 20 weeks except for grave danger to the mother? But who determines the risks? Not the mother. What likelihood becomes dangerous? Women being gravely harmed by the law is not just a possibility, it's a probability. And so on and so on. There aren't good anti-abortion laws and there won't be.
