Poll: I floss... (Vote): before brushing my teeth (Vote): after brushing my teeth (Vote): not
I was told to floss more by my dentist to reduce gum disease, should I do it before or after brushing my teeth? Should I go over each crack twice? I had no idea what was the best way to do it and I ended up Flossing, Brushing, Flossing, Brushing and finally Rinsing.

i do it afterwards because i immediately swish with listerine, and in my mind i feel as though since my gums are technically "looser" the listerine actually has a chance to maybe penetrate the gumline for added germ killing power, rather than just swash around all over the surface of my teeth.
As far as each crack, make sure you hit each side of the gumline... you dont need to pull the floss out from between the teeth to do this.. just insert it, go down on one side of the tooth, BENEATH the gumline, as far down as it will comfortably go (a couple of millimeteres, you would be surprised) , and then go back and forth with it real quick, then lift it enough to slide over your gumline and go down into the other side... then pull it completely from that tooth crack and proceed to the next.
I would also add, dont use those silly flossing tools.. You will usually get plaque or food particles or something on the floss from each tooth, or it will build up every few tooth.. essentially dirty used floss.. you dont want to go re-inserting that back into your next gum. So you should learn how to properly wrap several feet of floss around your fingers, so you can jump from one tooth to the next, and quickly wind fresh floss across your fingers so you can always hit each tooth with a fresh piece.

I brush, floss, and then brush again.

My mom's a dental assistant, and according to her you're supposed to floss before you brush. This is because the flossing gets all the crap that's stuck between your teeth to loosen up a bit, and then the brushing kind of sweeps it out entirely.
If you brush first, then you don't get any of the between-teeth stuff. Then when you floss after, you loosen it up a bit, but it's still sitting there (since you don't sweep it out with the brush!).
Yeah, I think that's the explanation..............

Your dentist is wrong. Another guy's mom (oral hygenist) says the other way, my oral hygenist says the other way, and so does my dentist.
Honestly, I don't think it matters all that much, but I think it'd be better for your teeth to have toothpaste left over than it would be to have plaque left all over them.

Yes, but it has to be a pretty long while.
