In my opinion there's no such thing as too old for video games. This may look like anectodal evidence but the other day I met a 60+ year old SWTOR player.
But yeah I agree that nowadays the quality of video games is declining so that may be a reason why people are getting bored.

I am 22, working 40h /week, having gf (on and off^^), doing other stuff at the week and still play A LOT. And watch tons of streams etc..

I still like it. Playing HoN mostly tho. When I am too mad at that game I play LoL or sc2 (rarely).

I often feel like things are way to fucked up for me, so I really enjoy playing games.

Too old? Never. But definitely not as much time as there used to be.

I miss the days where I could say "Well, I'm gonna play Fallout 3 this week" and that's what I'd do for pretty much the rest of the week. Just become totally immersed in a fun game and not have any other commitments to worry about.

Yup.
It's not just that games are dropping in quality and moving away from what I'm familiar with.
Not really a issue with free time either.
The basic framework of challenge/reward has simply been reused so many time it has become too transparent and predictable.
I still game but with only a couple of worthy titles per year it's just a matter of time before I find another hobby to replace it.

I don't think the quality is declining to the extent that people here state. It is more that the industry refuses to grow up. The stories, plot elements, risk/reward systems, communities, gameplay, etc. are all still heavily targeted towards the teenage to early 20s male. Once people outgrow that phase of their lives, is it any wonder that they find new games less and less appealing? The ones people still find appealing are the older games they played when they were still the target demographic.

I'm 27 and I don't play as much as I used to. Sure there's the whole less time, more responsibilities, yadda yadda. But it's not just that. First off, I can't stand repetitiveness anymore. I was a huge fan of Diablo I+II and WoW Vanilla. I deeply enjoyed the repetitive mechanics of those games, but today they're boring. Secondly, I don't have the patience to work myself into a game anymore. If the game isn't accessible (not easy, mind you, accessible!), I'll lose interest really fast. Most games are either shallow (Skyrim) or goddamn skinner boxes (Diablo 3).
The interesting thing is that if a game resonates with me well, I will have as much fun with it as I used to as a kid. I WANTED to finish Portal, Magicka, Legend of Grimrock or Machinarium. I had genuine fun with these games. That must mean I still like playing games, but enjoyable ones are so far and few inbetween :/.

At the moment, I play a lot of video games because of the holidays. I've got plenty of time now, and I don't feel guilty about it. When school starts again, however, the amount of time I spend playing video games will decrease drastically. I'm talking about a few hours a week instead of 5 hours a day.

It's not like I'm getting too old for it. I still enjoy video games a lot. It's just that priorities shift. Back when I was 15-16 I had zero responsibilities..

Cmon guys we are men - men can never feel being too old to play. Be it a videogame or whatever else This applies more for women, they usualy became more serious over time.

We've moved too far off from the OP's original questions but since I've already answered them I might as well continue the list of people saying they no longer have the time. I'm really tired.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

Dunno, has less to do with time but rather the reduced glamor of videogames for me. Used to love a lot of RPGs, but now they seem so oversimplified that it's not really fun playing (simple characters, story, theme, etc...). Additionally I used to be able to play cs 1.6 for an entire day with friends, but now I can't really play more than 30 mins of any fps before getting bored. Nowadays I've defered my videogame leisure time towards novels instead.

But I do still play some games weekly like Go :D. But not Sc2 anymore

I used to game a lot (mainly PC games) when I was young. Now I only game probably 2 hours maximum per week.

I don't use console gaming at all. I think console games are only for kids (no offence to people over 18 who play console games).

Soon enough, for those of you who have entered college or got a job, you will realize that gaming is not productive. Of course, watching TV is not productive too. You have to do more productive things (exercise, help your parents, spend time with your family and girlfriend/wife and kids). People who just game for 5 hours+ a day who are not progamers and are over 20 are just sad (this is just my opinion).

there is no such thing as too old for video games. they have no maximum age restrictions. as we age we have less free time, and maybe some people dont find video games fun anymore, but thats not getting too old, thats just changing taste. saying you are too old for video games is like saying you are too old to watch tv or read a book. they are a form of entertainment, everyone needs entertainment in one form or another

If your grades suffer in high school, you definitely dont want to play in College when your grades REALLY matter.

I can still play at 26, but it feels like I dont play as well as I did when I was younger.

After the age of 18-19, reaction times start to slow down little by little each year.. Which explains that. You're always at your sharpest & your.. "Peak" around the age of 17-18. Hence why most of the top pro players are around 18'ish year old.

when I get into a multiplayer game I really want to do my best at it 100%. i kind of obsess about it. I look up absolutely everything and look to get an edge in every aspect. I like to get to know my games very well. I like GunZ, Quake Live, and sc2. In all of these games I need to spend a lot of time with it to feel satisfied with my skills. getting older, I still like to play games, but I will never have the time like I used to. I need to make money and spend a lot of time thinking about getting an advantage in that over video games.
