This is a tragic event. Let's not derail the thread with a gun control debate. Posts from page 9 onward will be moderated for steering the discussion towards gun control. |

Except it does have something to do with it. He got the idea from the trailer where gangster shoot up a movie theater. And he died his hair red to and told authorities that he was the "Joker". The shooter picked this particular movie to have significance for his massacre.

This rumor is from the NYC Police Commissioner, and cannot be validated by anyone else. He has been known to exaggerate things for the media in the past.

I've never been able to stand these people, but i've always acknowledged their legal rights, but this is just ridiculous. Innocent people were shot for enjoying a form of media. There can be no justification for their protests here.
Why...like...WHY...
What the fuck...

Depression has nothing to do with such an act. Depressed people usually won't hurt anyone and are pretty sympathic, they are mostly only danger to themselves rather than other people. Loneliness though I believe to be a factor in some cases. Also these shotings couldn't have been done without motives by someone not completely inhumane. The person is mental sick simple as that.

Tell me how underpaid one has to be to not click on one link on the web. This story, about the shooting, is like wildfire...All they have to do is go type Aurora into Google.com.
I'm more mad at the PR firm they have which apparently they fired so w.e

So they can get people to do illegal things against the church and sew them. The church is basically a bunch of lawyers who uses legal loopholes to get money by pissing people off.

Typically the term "lonely" is used for someone who does not want to be alone, but is. Sociopaths and misanthropes both do very much want to be alone. Schizophrenics may or may not, because it is an illness with an amazing variety of possible behavioral outcomes.

Sad stuff, My friend was over drinking in a bar about a 2 min walk away from that.

Oh great.
Mark my words, thanks to this rumor and the labeling of it as "The Batman Massacre", this will become an urban legend that will never go away. Just check back in a year or two and some Concerned Parents Against Movies organization will be using it as an example of the horrible influence of violent films.

Yes, especially the kind that people have not watched yet.

He was not a PhD student, nor was he a medical student. He was withdrawing from a master's program in neuroscience (most such programs are 2 years -- if he began in 2011, then he would have dropped out after one year of [academic success!!]). Looks like he started preparing for this insanity when classes finished up in May. Random speculation: I wouldn't be surprised if his family never knew he was dropping out.

Look at Duke Nukem, or any other scapegoat in the video game arena, or hell, any other scapegoat in any other sector for that matter. This kind of behaviour will unfortunately always be present in the political (and faux-news commentary) arena. Perception in politics is everything.

yet the "public" is going to "demand" "action"

i saw transformers three in that theater o.o

Something like this shouldn't make people be fearful about ever attending a public event. Something like this can happen anywhere and it shouldn't make you live your life in fear. It's an unfortunate tragedy that happened to take place at a midnight premier.

Interesting legal note - it'll probably be considered legal malpractice if the prosecution does not seek the death penalty if he is determined competent to stand trial.

When people say "man this world is crazy" don't you all understand that "this world" includes all of us and our parents, and why do many people want the men dead, what if they are seriously mentally ill, and and are literally insane, not saying its not their fault but still its not like they know any better.
