DreamHack 2012 DreamHack EIZO Open Stockholm, Sverige - 21-22 april DreamHack Summer 2012, Jönköping, Sverige - 16-19 juni DreamHack EIZO Open, Valencia, Spanien - 21-23 september DreamHack EIZO Open, Bukarest, Rumänien - 27-28 oktober DreamHack Winter 2012, Jönköping, Sverige - 22-25 november
So a quick translation: DreamHack just announced that they will show their tournaments on the Swedish National TV channel.
The announcement doesn't say specifically what games will be shown, but one could guess for the biggest one (sc2).
They also say that they won't show all of the games, just the more relevant ones.
Conclusion: This is just great, afaik Sweden will now be the second country in the world to show E-sport on terrestrial TV. Go Sweden!
EDIT: If a moderator wishes to move this to SC2 general - please feel free to, just that it doesn't say for sure that it will be SC2 that will be broadcasted so I put it here.

Really good news there for swedes.
|
great news ! but isnt china the second or something? :D
|
Only in Sweden I guess.
|
Ye, China might be the second country, was actually thinking of Sweden being the second country to show Starcraft 2 on television, think that's legit.
|
Oh, so they move from having it only on SVT play (online) to also having it on their usual channels.
|
This is fantastic news! Well done Sweden!

ESL TV once was a real TV channel in Germany iirc. I never really watched it, but I think they did show some eSports before. Now it only exists online.
|
Great news! I guess it fits that sweden is one of the first in Europe
Btw, they also showed the IEM WC in german television on ZDF Kultur (Part of one of the two big state channels in germany). Only the grand finals afaik, but they even showed CS apart from SC2 and LOL (take casted the sc2 final).

unfortunately i cannot consider that a post. so you saying use the search function is completely pointless. my own post contradicts this but, perhaps posting on topic would be more helpful yes?

I thought I heard this before :x

Not that we really care what you consider to be a post or not but it, in fact, is a post. On Topic: don't have 2 threads for the same thing!

Dreamhack 2010 finals were sent on SVT 1, so it's not the first time.

Now some matches will be sent on real TV hours! (How I understood it) With a much broader audience and pretty much introducing e-sports to the whole swedish population.

Wow, finally something on Swedish television worth watching!
Serious though, I think this could be really cool depending on what they actually broadcast. That is, will they have their own commentators (in Swedish mind you) and schedule or will they simply broadcast the regular stream (which I hope they do). I seriously doubt SVT knows what makes a good esports event/coverage. I want this basically to be the stream broadcasted on TV, nothing more, nothing less.

I wish i was Swedish

Sweden had a fifa tournament on TV4Sport during 2009 I believe, for 100k SEK or something. That channel does not have the same viewerbase as SVT1 or SVT2 has, but we don't know for sure that it will be aired on one of the main channels yet.

I think this is good in the sense that it makes e-sport more mainstream. However, the people that are interested in this are way more likely to have a PC at home than a TV so Im not sure who their target audiance is. I prefer to watch it on my computer where I have more freedom compared to TV.

I searched the forums first, didn't find anything. So I created this thread. When I finished writing it I searched again and found the one you linked but thought it was poorly done so I kept mine in hopes that it would be the main one.
To explain a few things, to my knowledge there has never been any E-sport related matches broadcasted on Swedish television before.
Also, DreamHack has been showing E-sport on SVT's (Swedish national television) online feature, SVT play ever since 2009 though, now they will also send some of the matches on terrestrial TV.
