That was TV4 news, iirc, in Sweden making an article about DH in general and the massive amount of crowd it gathered, not the actual games where broadcasted as a whole with commentators and such.

However, the people that are interested in this are way more likely to have a PC at home than a TV so Im not sure who their target audiance is. I prefer to watch it on my computer where I have more freedom compared to TV. The "oil money" thing is a bit overrated in Norways case. you see, the politicians are using the money so irresponsibly there is not going to be any money left within 10 years or so.... They invested half of the money saved up in the stock market, so yes i would rather have esports on TV rather than that my politicians gets a fatter salary if that is what you are wondering about. (the money goes mostly to administration we don't need)

how does that have anything to do with the topic?

The ESL bought the studio off NBC's 18h a day electronics and internet show "Giga" when they got shut down. NBC Giga showed e-sports live on TV but never in the form of constant tournament coverage. You could technically count that though. They even had a real "Giga e-sports" show.
God I miss Hannes and Etienne XD

Damn I wish I had STV here, nut I only have TV4 I think, just to see how it would go, would be funny to see, even though my swedish is pretty bad .
Atleast I dont think I have it - Is it a sport channel?

In Germany they always showed the GigaLiga on Giga, which was a german television station for games only. The tournaments were actually pretty huge, they showed Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament, Fifa, SC:BW and probably 2-3 more that i cant of right now.
GigaLiga had all the german top pros (ToT)Mondragon(,FisheYe[pG],methos[pG],GoOdy and many more plus ret. :D Was a big 32-player tournament with groups and playoff for top16.
I always loved to watch it, also because there were games basically every week and not just for one 2-3 day tournament.

ok, seem like I have it afterall 'Svensk TV1', so that's great. I will diffently be watching.

Nice time to start watch TV again.

Well then, lets collectively abandon that failboat of an OP and join this one? Awesome news. One of the few times I think the TV-part of Swedish public service is doing something right.

Conclusion: This is just great, afaik Sweden will now be the second country in the world to show E-sport on terrestrial TV. Go Sweden!
hm no..as mentioned GIGA (internet and gaming tv channel)showed e-sports in german TV years ago and ZDF(german state tv)broadcasted the IEM WC finals in LoL, SC2 and CS 1.6

Will the whole broadcast be live in collaboration with the online stream? I can't imagine that they will have 8 hours of StarCraft on a regular TV channel. Don't terrestrial TV channels have like 30 mins to 1 hour time slots?
|
What exactly is the size of this channel? What audience can we expect?

Nope, I added on a later reply that only some of the matches will be broadcasted on TV, there will still be the regular streams (Twitch.tv likely) and then the SVTplay show (Swedish televisions online show feature).

On April 20 2012 02:57 TanTzoR wrote: What exactly is the size of this channel? What audience can we expect? Well its Swedens National Television that will broadcast it, which of their channels the show will appear on is not being mentioned. Their biggest channels (SVT1 and SVT2) is most likely out of the picture.

Pretty awesome none the less. I hope you guys have a great broadcaster to advertise eSports like a true champion on the SVTplay show feature.

As he asked, what kind of audiences can we expect, are we going to see a ton of new people from this or are we just going to be a few people out of curiosity?
|
It's a bit misleading. Afaik this is going to be broadcasted on the TV channel's web page rather than on TV. Atleast that's what it sounded like in the link by op.
Edit. Yeah for sure, this is definitely what they say. It's not on national television. They still receive a huge amount of traffic (I mean my mom who's 60 check that page for reruns), but it's not like in Korea.
