Depends completely what channel they will broadcast it on. SVT1 a sunday evening may very well have up to about 500k viewers. But its completely impossible for me to estimate viewers without knowing the channel.

Edit. Yeah for sure, this is definitely what they say. It's not on national television. They still receive a huge amount of traffic (I mean my mom who's 60 check that page for reruns), but it's not like in Korea.
You are wrong, the regular DreamHack show on SVTPlay (been going since 2009) will still occur, and some of the major matches will ALSO be played on terrestrial TV. Hellspawn (some kind of employee of DH) clearly stated on his twitter that there will be a show on terrestrial TV.

First ufc in sweden finally, and now this?! Sweden my #1 nordics~!

Wow, nice job Swedish people! Now just make the concept jump over to the UK for me and I'll love you all. Definately a nice step forward, probably inevitable eventually, but still awesome news.

i love sweden! IIII LOVE YOUUSS

I really hope they show the official broadcast with English casters. Casting in Swedish sound super weird and the broadcast quality on SVT play has in the past been sub par to say the least.
Otherwise great news, really looking forward to it! :D

I did a translation of the press release in another thread that got closed. So for those curious what it says:
The esports tournament in Starcraft II, DreamHack EIZO Open Stockholm, is arranged this weekend 21-22 of april in Annexet (t/n the arena for the event) and is the beginning for DreamHack's esports season 2012. The competition is also the beginning for a deepened collaboration between DreamHack and Sveriges Television (Swedish national television).
Sveriges Television has broadcast esports from DreamHack twice a year since winter 2009. During 2012 there will be more live broadcasts of esports than ever before. Sveriges Television will broadcast live from five of DreamHack's competiotions during the year, beginning this weekend. This is to be compared with two events during previous years.
The goal is to primarily broadcast on SVT Play (t/n the online service), but this year SVT and DreamHack will also broadcast esports live on the terrestrial network in one of SVT's channels during the year.
- The interest for livestreaming of esports is radpidly growing and we are very happy to be able to, in collaboration with SVT, offer more from DreamHack's competitions during the year. DreamHack prodcuces hundreds of hours of live broadcast esports every year and SVT will broadcast select parts of the best matches, says Tomas Hermansson, esports representative at DreamHack.
The first broadcast is this coming weekend, where SVT will broadcast the seven final games of the Starcraft II tournament from Annexet in Stockholm on SVT Play.
- SVT Play will be our exclusive media partner for the Swedish titles for the DreamHack EIZO Open tournament. They will also broadcast the most prestigious final matches in several international tournaments from our two big festivals DreamHack Summer and DreamHack Winter, says Fredrik Nyström, media representative at DreamHack.

Agree so much on this lol.
By the way do you guys think it'll be on SVT1 or SVT2? Not 24 right? TT Cause I haven't heard anything about what channel it's gonna be aired at and according to me it's a pretty big deal if it's the one or the other. What do you guys think?

They might show LoL only. It is probably the most popular game there.

Nice! A good step in the right direction, hopefully this will set a good example for the rest of the world, and others will follow suit as a result.

I can tell you for sure that LoL isn't the most popular game at DreamHack, atleast not tournament wise at previous DH's. In fact, I don't think they've even had a LoL tournament at DH, only HoN and maybe some smaller DotA2 tournament.
I think they have some kind of contract with HoN or some mutual sponsors or whatever, since they just announced a 60 000 $ Heroes of Newerth tournament to be played on DreamHack Summer.

OK, but the OP only states that some matches will be shown on SVTPlay, which is NOT national television. That's the web page that the 15 people in this country who don't know how to download use to watch reruns. If hellspawn's said that it'll be on terrestrial television as well, then fair enough.

This...is ...awesome. Hope it come's to the Sweedish/Danish TV3 at some point as well, so us Dane's can enjoy us some SC2 mainstream. :D. (I know all the arguments why it cant be on tv, but you could look at it like a comercial, it will spread the word about esports.) [Notice the "esports" not e-sports... ]

One small step for scII gamers...one giant leap for gamerkind. Or something slightly smaller like that ;D
Edit: read that its not on the tube, but on computer screens o.O
DoubleEdit: Whew, first edit redacted. Corrected below - broadcast on national tv. A great leap for gamerkind indeed.
also, anyone else notice that when you type in gamerkind it will sometimes auto spell to "gamer kind" instead?

This, as a Swede, makes me happy.
|
Sure hope they focus on SC2 and not LoL but when LoL regularly has 10 times the viewer numbers... Dunno man. Starcraft is about to be done.

SVT has since 2009 covered dream hack events on their online service/channel, but this year will be the first that they also broadcast on regular TV!

On sunday, the last seven matches of this weekends DreamHack Open Stockholm will be aired on SVTPlay (on the web) and svt.se/esport.
The pressrelease also says that DreamHack Summer will be the first DreamHack to be aired on terrestrial TV.
