I know that this is not likely to draw a lot of responses but I'm currently working on my PhD, which will be - generally speaking - about Anonymous: its origin, aims and how it actually changed over time. I'm most interested in it's internal structure. However, since Anonymous ain't a closed, centralized group or organization, I trying to look at it from a different way.

Therefore, I would love someone who is or has been working on or is/was affiliated with any kind of operation in the name of Anonymous. No email/ID has to be provided and even the slightest bit of information would be of good use. I'm not only asking this on the TL forum, but if you feel spoken to, contact me.

This post is funny, anybody can say they're anonymous and give you a load of bullshit. If I were you, I'd write my essay on something else. Don't waste your time with some one that probably states they're anonymous.

It's easy and perhaps fun when you're a kid, but one day you have to become a grownup and playing around in that shit isn't worth it anymore. The whole scene is rife with egomania.

What he says it's true. Script kiddies are everywhere now a days calling themselves "hackers" and it's quite irritating. I won't lie, I grew up using scripts, but that's what gets you caught. All those scripts have so many backdoors that they even know when you take a shit. "Adults" these days that use ION Cannon are more stupid that the kid that picked his boogers in your 12th grade class.

The only sense in which "using scripts" has something to do with "getting caught" is the sense in which "using scripts" is equivalent to not knowing what you're doing or what the risks are. You can know how to manually exploit a vulnerability and still be incredibly stupid.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

this is like the best story ive ever read lmao! (I dont read much tbf but still) Hacking world seems fucked up to say the least....Lots of Sociopaths and kids, seems like there is a big organization in the making somewhere but its very skeptical. All is fun anyway.

And ANYONE on the internet who says they wouldn't rat out any of there "fellow hackers" is an idiot because they would shit themselves from the second the Police officer is looking into there eyes. It always happens.

Thanks for the posts.

In general, less intelligent people are less subtle about how they act, meaning they are usually more prone to get arrested.

I'm not implying anything about wether Sabu is not intelligent or not, I'm merely agreeing with your point that Virus did indeed seem to be smarter...

How does the american justice system work? Is he in for a lot less time if he sells out his old friends?

Law enforcement very frequently offers reduced sentences or even complete immunity in exchange for information other desirable targets.

It's a common tactic in taking down criminal organizations, for example. They arrest one of the lower level criminals and threaten him with prison if he doesn't give up information about more important targets.

But I thought that would be common practice in most nations...

that's not unique in the american justice system. Often times , when criminals give important information, helping in stopping future crimes, saving lifes of hostages , getting other important criminals caught, etc. they do not have to face charges, or significantly lower charges.

By the way, this link is probably important, it's the FBI's own press release.

LOL, "MONSEGUR, 28, of New York, New York, pled guilty to three counts of computer hacking conspiracy, five counts of computer hacking, one count of computer hacking in furtherance of fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit access device fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and one count of aggravated identity theft. He faces a maximum sentence of 124 years and six months in prison."

Damn, 124 years... Of course he would rat everyone out that he knew...

pretty long but i've rarely seen anyone be that internet-owned.

I don't know who these dudes are(until this thread), or what all their lingo is about but it's pretty clear to me Sabu is being a mole. Nobody comes up to you out of the blue all "mah ngga!" "broscope mate dawg yo!" unless they want something from you.

lulsec, grr... they can mop themselfs up so not to sad =)
Anonymous as a social phenonomen will evolve as time goes, netivism(???) hopefully here to stay, it raises some awarness for topics netizens find important, a banner to rally under; quite often when it involves trying to push things that are for nation state concepts onto the internet, quite frankly NS stuff has nothing to do on the internet if it is to evolve into a the utmost tool to bring us all togheter as one singing kumba ya and shining the torch of transparency where the world of old would rather not =)

Just because you can now store where everyone was and is, what they like, what they fear who they talk to and who they love. It does not mean we should so spy upon our fellow man in a dystopia far worse then 1984

it's funny that they call him a rat and a snitch...

they live in the dark, sneaking around biting people's ankles, never doing any real damage, always holed up in their little nest, filled with glee every time they steal a bit of cheese from normal people...

the informant ain't the rat. the criminals are the rats.

I know how it works in a lot of nations, but I did not know how it worked in america, hence why I asked.
