For example, ramen is very convenient to eat with chopsticks in soup. Spaghetti probably would not be. You really dont live up to your username

If I'm understanding this correctly... HOLY SHIT Instant noodles is one of my favorite foods, does that makes me weird(er than DystopiaX)?

I'm guessing that Angel-hair spaghetti is going to be the closest western alternative. Still not quite as thin as ramen noodles.

girlfriend eats it raw and dips the noodle chunks into the flavor packet. it's bizarre.

They actually sell uncooked ramen for instant consumption: ppushuppushu. It's usually sweeter and more lightly fried than regular ramen.
It's pretty common... I ate it all the time in Pennsylvania when I was growing up.
EDIT: By the way, I'm ethnically Korean.

Maybe I'm just crazy but I boil them relatively long in a pan, then drain them, add the seasoning and a bit of indonesian ketjap manis, works brilliantly and you will have a much stronger flavor, in fact I find it hard to eat them with water because they are not salty or savory enough.

There are actually snacks like that in asian countries, where it's just a block of ramen and u sprinkle it with msg and eat it.

some times i will eat the block of noodles "raw." process usually goes something like break off chunk of noodle block, put in mouth, fill mouth with soda and let it sit for a few seconds before chewing

This thread reminded me I haven't had ramen since roughly nine months ago.
I'm sad now

Shake shake shake.
It's not bad.

Boil the noodles, discard the packet and the water.
Boil some very thinly sliced pork belly or salt pork in not a lot of water. (In some recipes you fry half of it in sesame oil). Skim off the foam. Keep some of this water, and add soy sauce, mirin, sake in a 2:1:1 or 2:1:2 ratio, add some sugar to taste (mix it first and sample it to figure out what you like.) Crack an egg in if you want, mix everything. Delicious.

I swear I'm going to make a cook blog about coke ramen(ramen with coca-cola instead of water).
Edit: I'm Asian, don't think I'm ignorant.

If it's just the instant noodle I throw the noodles in with the cold water in a pot and boil it. By the time it's boiling the noodles are practically cooked. Doesn't matter which way you cook it really. It still tastes like sadness.
EDIT: I should elaborate that it tastes like sadness to ME.

Are there any ways to avoid making it with too much sodium? Or is the only way just to not use the seasoning that comes with it? I'm going to start experimenting soon with some random stuff that I have.

I'm going to start experimenting soon with some random stuff that I have. I also try to limit my sodium intake, so when I am desperately hungry and have no choice but to make the instant cup ramen I usually just eat the noodles and skip the broth that remains and throw it out. The broth isn't very filling anyways so it doesn't really contribute to sating my hunger.
