I dont use the dry noodles ~__~ I go buy the "raw" ones, and if I'm not goign ot eat them righ taway, I freeze them.
Then I... cut - "hakusai" - chinese cabbage? - carrots - celery - onions - mushrooms - "moyashi" - bean sprouts (ok i dont cut this one) - some spinnach(sp wtf) - if available, "wakame" (preserved seaweed)
I boil these accordingly.
Then I will take sliced beef (like 1mm thick), and put them into a frying pan with some japanese sauce for beef.
Boil noodles as well.
Use the boiled water from the vegetables to thin out the soup, then add the noodles, then add the vegetables + meat on top of it. Add a hard boiled egg cut in 1/2. Grind Sesame seeds and sprinkle on top. Add white pepper.
Done.
takes like 15-20 mins.

Can someone clarify the health factor with ramen? What's in it that's so unhealthy?
I understand that it's not super nutritious on it's own, and that it's not good for you too eat only noodles of any kind, but ramen in particular seems to have a connotation of unhealthiness. If you get good ramen (not instant noodles) and prepare your own ingredients which you add to the noodles, is it really that bad for you?
The soup that comes with even the "raw" noodles I use is quite salty, and I'm sure it's not too healthy. I try to counter that by bombarding it with veggies.

When my family is lazy we just make this Chao tomato + Egg noodle.
Simple!
Boil water in pot A Beat 3 eggs, add green onions and salt Scramble eggs in pan B Add sliced tomato in Pan B and stew it abit to let the flavor mix well Add noodle to boiling pot A, add veggies accordingly Get some meat, sausages perferably Drain water from noodle, mix with the chao tomato and egg
done.

i dont know if anyone else does this, but what ive been doing recently is cooking the noodles with not very much water, and as they begin to finish i keep draining more and more water out of it until theres no water left. then i take it off the heat and add whatever sauce i want and mix it in, i think some reaction makes it so the sauce sticks to the noodles a lot better and doesnt just run through them into the soup.
its a nice variation to throw in now and then vs. the soupier ramen that i usually have.

1) Boil water, 2) unwrap Mr Noodle and place in boiling water 3) wait a bit....timing doesn't matter to much especially if you aren't asian. 4) drain water and put in that little soup packet 5) put in bowl and eat...with fork and or spoon (for easy spinning, thanks wysp)...no chop sticks allowed under any circumstances 6) title it with you name with some asian sounding words in there for effect.
Now tell your roommate (korean in this case) that you were making ramen and watch as he flips out in a big lecture of the history of ramen and how you have just defiled its legacy with this "white kid crap" you have just produced
eat and enjoy

I recommend using a spoon to aid in noodle spinning.

Haha I cook that too when I'm lazy, but with rice instead of noodles. Its like the default Chinese lazy dish.

omg that sounds awesome, where do you get the "raw" noodles? What do you call it in Japanese?
|
u put it in raw and let it half cook inside the soup
cheese is essential also
|
I'm talking about where he obtains the actual raw ramen (the kind you get in ramen shops I assume) and not the instant kind that come in packets and stay good forever.
|
Hmm so it comes with a packet of soup-mix. What's in that? Can you just use the noodles and make the soup yourself? Would this make it healthier? I know most ramen has cock-loads of soy sauce, but if I was making my own broth I could make it less salty, right?

Straight from wikiRamen and similar products are often criticized as being unhealthy or junk food. A single serving of instant noodles is high in carbohydrates but low in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Noodles are typically fried as part of the manufacturing process, resulting in high levels of saturated fat and/or trans fat. Additionally, if served in an instant broth, it typically contains the controversial ingredient monosodium glutamate (MSG) as well as a high amount of sodium, usually in excess of 60% of the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance.

That's why people say to add a lot of healthy food into the ramen. To actually make it nutritious! lol

I'll report back hopefully with good news :D Yeah, the more effort you put into your ramen, the healthier and better tasting it becomes. (well, I can't guarantee better tasting;; ) Try to get those raw or "wet" noodles, as they are healthier, I believe. Just throw in a lot of vegies and you won't have to worry about nutrition. Good luck ^^ And always eat ramen with chopsticks. ALWAYS!
