Monitor overheating

My monitor has been overheating lately and my windows crashes quite often so I just wanted to ask for some advice here.
I've had this monitor for around 3 years, it's a pretty good 19" viewsonic flat screen monitor which cost me quite a lot of money. It has been working great until around a month ago when I noticed it was overheating. Usually it gets pretty hot after only an hour of being on and I'm not even doing anything intensive, just playing poker or surfing the net. After a couple of hours it usually gets to a point where it's almost boiling and if I put my hand on the top I can barely keep it on cause of the heat and I believe that shouldn't happen lol.
I've also noticed that I get a lot of the winxp blue screen crashes which say "bad_pool_call" and some other stuff and I have to restart my comp.
I use the 1024 resolution with 120hz refresh rate (which is supported by the monitor and I have been using it ever since I got it 3 years ago). My friend also has the same monitor and uses the same res and refresh rate and he doesn't have any problems so I don't think that's the problem. I tried lowering it to 100hz and 85hz but it still kept overheating.
So is my monitor fcked up or could it be something hardware related? I was thinking maybe it could be my power supply which is a bit low (350w) for my system but i dunno if it would affect my monitor...
So what should I do?
Any advice would be appriciated.

your power supply from your computer should not affect your monitor in any case. If it does, your problems go much much deeper, to your motherboard. I have never heared of a monitor overheating, but i guess anything is possible. I also the windows error reffers to an error regarding your video card. MAke sure your AGP card is on primary in bios. If u have messed arround with your video cards, that is most likely your problem. I doubt its the monitor, it might be your video card. A friend of mine had the same error, when he was trying to force 2 video cards for windows XP but since AGP was on 2nd windows will give you that error.
Hope that provides some.. help.

If you see alot of dust on or in your monitor, clean it out. It may be the power supply going bad -- applies to both monitor and computer.

there is no point in getting a new monitor if you dont know where the real problem lies. See what the problem really is then decide on a course of action. I would strongly suggest, u take this monitor to a friends house and test it on his computer, if it acts in the same way, u might consider getting a new one. If it doesnt, the problem is deeper and u should consider testing your video cards and mobo.

Well I dunno my mobo and vid card seem to be running fine, no overheating or any real problems I could see other than the blue screen crashing I mentioned before. I got a 6800 gt and it's not overclocked, the only thing I've actually modified was the refresh rate override in the video card options since I've heard there was a win xp bug that runs all the games at 60 hz refresh rate so I put it on 120hz just in case. It's also really hot in my room since I've got no ac and it's summer but the monitor should run perfectly fine in these kind of temps regardless.
I was thinking of trying it on another comp as someone suggested but that could take a few days so I'm trying to find some other solutions first.

EDIT - just a side note, although it's pretty hot in my room my comp has around 5 fans in it so it's pretty well ventilated.

3 years maybe = a lot of dust. get that can,of,higpressure, air thing and dust it around, mostly the top(hot air rises/cold air falls) maybe your contrast/brightness settings on your monitor.

just take the monitor to another computer, plug the sucker in and see if it warms up

It has nothing whatsoever to do with the computer. Clean out the dust. If that doesn't fix the problem, buy a new monitor. Cheap CRT monitors can be had for ~$60-$100, or decent LCDs for $150-$250.

So I can get the blue screen with the "bad_pool_call" because of the monitor overheating?
The biggest problem is this is not a cheap CRT monitor, it's a 600$ gaming monitor and most of the new models don't even match up to it, not to mention I don't have the money to replace it lol.
So getting a new monitor will be my last resort, I'm going try everything to fix it first.

If I remember correctly, bad_pool_call is a driver problem. I don't think it's something a monitor will cause. Why do you think your monitor overheating is causing this?

Well I don't know what is causing the problem, everything seems to work alright and I usually get the blue screen after like 3 or 4 hours of my comp being on and by then my monitor is almost boiling so I supposed it might be related.
I doubt my 6800gt can't handle a poker game for 3-4 hours lol, I'm using the 76.44 forceware drivers and I haven't really heard of any problems with them.

I got bad_pool_call because of bad drivers for my hauppauge WinTV card, it doesn't have to be your video card. Have you got the latest chipset drivers? Soundcard? SATA-controller?

Yea I just got winxp with a fresh format like a month ago so everything is mostly up to date.
