This is one of the most heart-wrenching and disgusting things I have seen in my entire life.
What a poor, pitiful girl.

Damn, China's culture is just messed up. I've lived there for the first half of my life, and people are just rooted in this "dog-eat-dog" mentality. Like everyone out there is trying to get you. Because it is partly very true. Now, if such a large portion of the population works off this principle, then no one is willing to just "be nice" and get taken advantage of, so it becomes a nash equilibrium where everyone is just assuming the worst in others. You won't help anyone else unless he/she is family or will give you benefit in one way or another. Just disgusting. And my parents' mindset is like that, they're like, why give to charities, why spend so much time at church serving. If I was raised in China for all my life, I'll probably think along this same lines. Something is not right over there with how their society works.

Not even gonna bother clicking on that link. Not sure why anyone would want to view something so fucked up.

I've seen an update on this. Apparently the driver who ran over the girl actually called the parents afterwards and 'apologised', but wait for it... + Show Spoiler +
then he said that's better for him to have killed the girl rather than letting her live injured because it'd COST HIM LESS (I think he quoted something like a 3,500 USD fine if she's dead vs a 16,000 USD fine if she's injured).

AND THEN...

when the reporter got in touch with him, he admitted that + Show Spoiler +
he would pay the fine but not turn himself in, and he already bought a train ticket to escape to a remote province.
However, he turned himself in later.

EDIT: source (in chinese)

As a father, that was the most disgusting fucking thing I have ever seen in my entire life. If that were my child and I were to see those sick fucks not doing a God damn thing about my screaming seriously injured child, I have no idea what I would do to them but I can assure you it would be much more graphic than that video. I have tears streaming down my face and I'm so frustrated and feel so powerless it's ridiculous. Just fucking disgusting. Those bastards don't deserve the human flesh they have the priveledge of living in.

i think its funny how whenever an event like this happens, where a person dies/suffers because of the lack of value being put his/her life, people like to act all outraged at how terrible some people are or claim how some parts of the world are so savage and backward. funnily enough people are often reminded of the fact that millions of people suffer from tragedies such as disease, starvation and just general problems caused by the fact that human life isnt valued by as much as people want and yet still do jack about it (LOL sponsoring a child with world vision for $1 a day doesn't count, thats $30 dollars a month worth of resources, a negligle amount compared to what you could be contributing if you really cared). almost all of us are in no position to look down or be outraged at at the people that dont care or do nothing without being hypocrites, because we're all actually doing the same things ourselves.

don't be so sure , many people claim they would always help, but when push comes to shove there are plenty that actually freeze up or do nothing.

can recall a number of incidents here too where bystanders in crisis situations did nothing resulting in death or the likes.

and ofcourse also plenty where people did actually help.

moral of the story : it's a human issue , not related to China as others seemed to have suggested in this thread.

that video is absolutely shocking.

It's more than a human issue considering Chinese people are terrified of being good Samaritans thanks to ridiculous laws / precedents.

I can't quite articulate how I feel about this. It's really put a bad spin on my day My sympathy goes to the parents, I can't imagine what they're going through right now. I hope the driver is bought to justice. It's beyond me how he just drove off like that.

Probably to an extent yes, but in Holland we do have a version of the good samaritan law, you are expected to help, and it still happens.

you're right that the precedent doesnt exactly help though and is a batshit crazy ruling.

That video made me so sad : \
What's nearly as disgusting as the video is some Chinese criticizing the woman who helped the child that she only did it to become famous.
