then he said that's better for him to have killed the girl rather than letting her live injured because it'd COST HIM LESS (I think he quoted something like a 3,500 USD fine if she's dead vs a 16,000 USD fine if she's injured). AND THEN... when the reporter got in touch with him, he admitted that + Show Spoiler + he would pay the fine but not turn himself in, and he already bought a train ticket to escape to a remote province. Just thankful to live in a place where most certainly everyone would do something. don't be so sure , many people claim they would always help, but when push comes to shove there are plenty that actually freeze up or do nothing. can recall a number of incidents here too where bystanders in crisis situations did nothing resulting in death or the likes. and ofcourse also plenty where people did actually help. moral of the story : it's a human issue , not related to China as others seemed to have suggested in this thread. that video is absolutely shocking.

It's more than a human issue considering Chinese people are terrified of being good Samaritans thanks to ridiculous laws / precedents.

Probably to an extent yes, but in Holland we do have a version of the good samaritan law, you are expected to help, and it still happens. you're right that the precedent doesnt exactly help though and is a batshit crazy ruling.

What's nearly as disgusting as the video is some Chinese criticizing the woman who helped the child that she only did it to become famous.
