I know it is a Japanese song, so might be not too mainstream, but I find that the rhythm, lyrics (look for English subs) and clip can be appreciated in different levels.
LBA 2 is an adventure game where you will have to solve a number of puzzles to save Twinsen's (the main character) planet from being destroyed. It's an old game and I was quite young back then, but it reminds me of how I could put so much fantasy into such a simple game.
Considering your only criteria is "world class" I doubt there will be any intelligent selections. 95% of selections will be of a person's favourtie song for the week.
Maybe 2 songs on the list can compare to the likes of Beethoven's 9th or Bob Dylan's Desolation Row or Miles Davis' All Blues or Van Morrison's Cyprus Avenue etc. These are all songs of unparalled quality that have recaptured hearts and minds generations after their composition and will retain their 'classic' status presumably as long as humans have ears. They are expressions of some of the most beautiful, intelligent and soulful pieces of music every composed.

My contribution:
Chances are almost no one will have heard of these guys but maybe someone will enjoy them. Pavement were this groovy indie band that carved a small niche into the scene at a time when it was dominated by Grunge and Alt-rock. None of them were great instrumentalists, the lead singer couldn't sing that well and they achieved no real success. But they had more charm than almost any band I've ever heard. They sound like quirky but sincere Calfornian History/Linguistics majors that got bored in Summer break and kicked around some shit:

Can't believe no one has mentioned Chuck Berry. It's an old song but its still such a great classic song. It's not as deep as some other great songs like Hurt, Imagine but its still one of the best joy inducing songs I know ;D
