+ Show Spoiler + Explanation + Show Spoiler + Heh yeh, took me a while to figure out a sales pitch for this one. Basically the song feels totally out of the modern world and way of thinking. A 12 minute song of harp playing, loose orchestration and singing with a voice someone described as a wheezing asthmatic child. The lyrics on this particular one (as far as I can understand them) revolve around her sister teaching her to understand the nightsky and stars. And somehow it all works and as a whole becomes a gorgeus song. In addition to pulling off the whole thing somehow, the song really impresses with the lyrical output. The way Newsom makes English sound like something endlessly poetic and filled with history and magic never ceases to amaze me. It's kind of like jumping into some old fairytale where everything is filled with adventure and wonder and no cynicism exists. Even if I don't end up listening to this regularly at all and it's easy to think the song as childish and irrelevant, I find it wonderful that a song (and album) like this exists. It feels like a complete escape from any mundane, negative and dull things going through your head every day.

OP, add this to the god damned list already; it's one of the most amazing pieces of music I've ever heard. Hell, just to prove my commitment, here's a link to my (five month old) top rated comment in the video (scroll down to the "linked comment"): http://www.youtube.com/comment?lc=hM6cyAancBL5TyBvniDwMGeh-vT6zoTBv_GbP5wzGdw That's right. I'm friends with the composer. Suck it, Team Liquid! On August 16 2011 18:51 henreiman wrote: Edit 3: "Guys, please explain why you are posting what you are. Like, what voices or concepts or stories we should be listening for. Hmm. Why do I like it? Luckily, I already wrote about it. In 2009. Excerpts: I'm sorry, but only those who wept with joy while listening to the new composition of Baba Yetu and all that entails qualify for humanity. Everyone else has to move to an island and go back to the dark ages, burning art and killing science while the rest of us keep working on advancing human civilization so that we can one day fire the whole bloody lot of you into the sun. With two previous versions of Baba Yetu to consider, each with their devotees, Christopher Tin did the sensible thing: he cheated. For the new version, he combined percussion elements from both previous incarnations while also adding something new, bypassing all those laws of propriety that say the track shouldn't be able to appeal to both camps, and then he goes one further and ACTUALLY IMPROVES THE FUCKING THING. I don't know what kind of person can listen to fucking Baba Yetu and think to himself, 'You know what this needs? More epic.' Finally, to those unfamiliar with world music, this is representative of world music in the same way that, say, Will Wright is a developer of video games. You can give Will Wright all the tools and ideas in the world, but he'll still use them to create a piece of interactive media that has you building something. If you want first person shooters, you'll have to go see Valve or Infinity Ward. Christopher's Calling All Dawns takes language, form, and music styles from all over the world and inserts them into what can be uncharitably called the album's template, and charitably called a work of beauty. Christopher keeping to his fundamental principles and own personal style while composing music in twelve different languages and localized music styles is what makes the smooth transitions on the album possible. It also means that if you like one track, you'll probably like most of them. So, buy it. Support the talented independent artist. It's an incentive for Christopher to make more music in the future of the sort that would make the manchild of Jesus Christ and Chuck Norris weep tears of joy. It's not just that the music is good -- it is a shining beacon of excellence in the endless sea of mediocrity, and this status should be rewarded. It's what I always aim for when I compose music, but never reach. Maybe that's the result of that "education" thing I keep hearing about. It's melodic, memorable, uplifting, well-crafted, well-written world music. Fanboy? Me?

Metal or in this case industrial actually isn't my thing, but I always liked Rammsteins music although they don't really fit into my normal music taste, so you should like em too :D (took this song of em, becaus I won 7 games in a row while listening to Rammstein and this one was the one that was running during the last epic battle)

Such an amazing song, I would say the only song that fill me with enough emotion that can makes me wanna shred some tears everytime I listen to it (Princess Mononoko) this is really good as well, probably mentioned in this thread before through ( Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence) It's funny how I don't really listen to instrument music but these two are my all time fav songs

Wouldn't know what to say about it, the first time I heard it I simply loved it. This is one of the most memorable songs of my youth. I remember always saying this was my favorite song as a young child, even though I didn't know what it was called back then. "Can we turn the volume up just a little higher?" describes this song perfectly. Still as amazing as ever Adding a third because I can't believe this is not in the list yet. One of the most recognisable tunes (to me at least)
