To be honest this is what I anticipated. I was thinking Clapton, Zep, Who, Doors, etc with some of the one hit wonders thrown in (Verve Pipe, Nightranger, etc). But hey, then I got thinking, there has to be some sort of message we can pull from this about our generation if most of these songs are dance/techno. And people are entitled to their own opinion. EDIT: world class song that isn't necessarily famous - Verve Pipe, The Freshmen. Mungo Jerry, In the Summertime. The Wallflowers, One Headlight. There are lots of lesser known amazing songs. Considering what you're looking for, your choice of a Creed song seems even stranger than I initially thought. Although, there's certainly come eclectic tastes in this thread. For me, this question is pretty easy. Song: "Sister Ray" - Band: The Velvet Underground - Album: White Light/White Heat This isn't my number 1 favorite song. That being said, if I could force everyone on earth to listen to one song, this would probably it. Find the whole album. To the contrary, I chose Creed for the same reasoning you chose (that is, if there was one song everyone should listen to...). I expected that every favorite Clapton, Hendrix, Zep, Who song of mine would eventually be posted (Tears in Heaven, All Along the Watchtower, Kashmir, Pinball Wizard if you were wondering). Right, it just never occurred to me that love for The Who and Creed could exist in the same person. But like I said, we have eclectic tastes here. Eh, I'm not a huge Creed fan at all. I just have an immense amount of respect for that song. I think I mentioned earlier, my playlist has an insane range of music on it. I have a large appreciation for everything from Clint Mansell to Kid Cudi to Classic Rock to 90s Rock ... even a decent amount of modern pop-ish songs.

Song changed my life back when it came out. It inspired me to change some things that went wrong in my life and without it I wouldn't be the same as I am today... Also I picked up playing guitar because of it (even though it's not really a hard song at all)

Well, no offense, but you made a thread called "A SONG EVERYONE SHOULD HEAR" and then prominently featured one of your favorite songs. Don't you think that's the teensiest bit narcissistic? And your goal of having a "comprehensive library of life-changing songs" (...) just the slightest bit over-ambitious?

+ Show Spoiler + Awolnation - Sail + Show Spoiler + Why I picked it: + Show Spoiler + The amount of passion and confusion and avoidance just resonates well with me. I grew up in a very avoidance-based society, driven by fear of confrontation and tv's amazing ability to create passive-observers (including myself). This song reminds me how unproductive a lot of my habits are and were, and why it's good to question your life as often as possible. Dub Fx - Love Someone + Show Spoiler + Why I picked it: + Show Spoiler + It's a song about love, progression, unity, and life. And every sound you hear was created by this man's voice. Pretty awesome. Incubus - Drive + Show Spoiler + Ludovico Einaudi - A Fuoco + Show Spoiler + Why I picked it: + Show Spoiler + Brings about some interesting and amazing emotions for me. He definitely understands how to talk through music. Also, his cd 'Una Mattina' is absolutely amazing. I definitely recommend it. =D John Lennon - Imagine + Show Spoiler + Yann Tiersen - Comptine d'un autre été: l'après midi + Show Spoiler +

People only post their favourite song and leave. The problem is everybody wants everybody else to hear their contribution, but they don't care about anyone else's. It makes sense. It's like this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=238372 The last few pages aren't the best example, but in general it's just people posting their desktops wanting to be 'done' but not doing anyone else's. That's not narcissistic. Can he not participate in the thread just because he started it?

I often track threads like these down to see if I can find any music I like I haven't heard before. I find it more entertaining and efficient than other ways of finding good music.
