stop with the swj-ing dude. go outside, find a girl, tell her the phrase then ask her is she's offended. is she says "no", slap yourself then move on.
there is no way you can construct a language with a syntax that will be equal(in phrasing) for every stinking human on this planet.
this shit - "Hits like a truck", is very offensive. my <xxx> were hit by a truck and died. how can you be so inconsiderate!?. stop trivializing my pain.

One day it will be white men on the other side of all this crap and their tune will change and they all can only hope people are more understanding than they are now.
"Outlook not so good" when you look at how even the mentioning of their privilege results in hair on fire type reactions.

false equivalency.the phrase "hits like a truck" is not demeaning to trucks and actually has a positive connotation since it implies a truck hits hard.

The fact that people find them normal/okay *is* the problem with the system. Just because you and your friends are okay being derogatory does not mean it's okay to be derogatory.
Nop. Girls are weaker on average, so the phrase is accurate. No other justification needed. And it is just a fucking expression. Only some SJW like you get so butthurt about it. It is one thing to try and change discrimination in work/sports/wtv, another is trying to change the pointless.

I identify as a truck and I find it offensive since some of us don't want to be seen for our hard exterior and raw horsepower but for our soft and comfortable interiors.

I find the use of the words "truck", " but" and "raw" highly offensive!

maybe I misexplained it. ones tied to societal history and gender roles etc while the other is based on your own individual experience. if a lot of people felt the way you did about trucks. you might have something.
in other words the your individual experience of the truck would make it offensive to you but the phrase itself is free of the connotation without the experience that most people have had, as well as not reflecting anything about society other than how we perceive trucks as hitting hard.
I'm putting more of my thoughts on it in a spoiler cause its not super well thought out.
+ Show Spoiler +obviously one person finding something offensive doesn't make it offensive. however if a significant amount of people in a minority group (referring to rights as opposed to population in this point) find it offensive it seems different to me. although we still have to identify what a significant amount is. no one is saying your a horrible person for using the phrase just trying to get you to see how some people would have a problem with it. Even giving the fact that girls are generally weaker than boys I still don't see how that makes it okay to constantly emphasize the point with a phrase meant as an insult (although it can be used in a joking sense but it still is meant as negative). It's like saying someone's poor as a black guy. event though statistically African Americans make less money then other races in America doesn't make it less offensive or more acceptable. I could probably go further but I'm not thinking well atm still a false equivalency (at least as I see it)
of course you have a right to your opinion and I don't claim to know everything.
anyway we are probably derailing this thread pretty heavily so yeah it would probably be better to start a new thread if you want to continue arguing this

How offensive something is does not define how derogatory it is.
"Fuck you" is offensive, but not derogatory "Let's go Dutch" is inoffensive, but derogatory
Assuming "offensive" =\= derogatory is trying to sidestep te issue on an attempt to justify your fundamentalist behavior.

Does anyone use the dimmer for their dash lights? I guess it's for glare but I've never heard/seen anyone mention it as an issue?

Telling people what to say is not the goal. If the things you say make you sound like a fundamentalist then you should just own up to it.

He's not telling people what words to use he's just explaining the proper definitions of words as to not confuse terms.
and the dictionary defines derogatory as "tending to lessen the merit or reputation of a person or thing; disparaging; depreciatory:" I don't see how telling someone that a phrase is offensive qualifies as that. If you think that us telling you that a phrase is offensives somehow disparages you I don't know what to say.
at the very least it doesn't fit the british definition of the term "tending or intended to detract, disparage, or belittle; intentionally offensive"

This discussion is cool and all but I was really curious about stimulant use in the pro gaming scene. Does anyone know anything about that? I feel like adderall and the like would be popular.

Considering the age group, availability, and benefits, it would be a surprise to me to find out the usage wasn't significantly higher than the general population. I'd be surprised if at least a few players don't have their own prescriptions for them too.

I don't think my car even has that feature.

Depends on the company. When my 90 year old grandmother says it no one is appalled by her. But when my 14 year old cousin says fuck you in the same dinner table people are appalled. Still, just because my family was not offended by my grandmother saying something derogatory does not make the derivative statement harmless.

The dimmer for my dash lights also dims my interior lights so I use it when I need to leave my door open for an extended period of time to reduce battery usage.
