The Teamliquid Maze Thread
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/QuD9d.jpg)
Ive loved mazes since, well forever and have even gone to some real life corn mazes and indoor ones, (which are so fun.)
Basically what this thread will be is to post your own mazes or ones that you found online. You dont have to post the correct way to go, but it might be nice if its a larger maze and its spoilered. Lets try to keep this as picture friendly as the SFW pictures thread. Gogo!
ill start off with a small one in classic paint.
|
It totally does LOL i missed the far right :O
|
|
Where's that photo from op?? That's awesome.
I want to go to one of those hedge mazes, but most are in England.

Your paint maze was surprisingly simple because there were no real variations off the path. If you start at the end, go right and then up then you aren't faced with any more decisions. I guess I was just lucky getting those two right but it took me about 20 seconds.

Maybe links because a lot of these image sizes are wrong.

I hate mazes on paper, but i love mazes IRL. One time me and my brothers went to this one maze while we were on vacation in the US. Raced to see who finished first, you had to get to like 4 towers to stamp your card then get to the exit. This maze had bridges that arced over other portions of the maze, so kinda had 2 dimensions to it.
Was one of the funnest half-hours ever. (ya i ended up winning ^^)

One of the most difficult maps from a game I love: http://www.nmaps.net/9050
May seem a simple to solve maze, but to complete in-game is brain destroying...
|
Kickass maps! Though what I really wanna see is how they are SOLVED! (because I gave up ... ) Remember to put them in spoiler tags if you do, some might not want the pleasure spoiled
|
Oh my... that one looks like it would be quite the headache to solve @_@
|
I can't do a maze without it on paper in front of me to pencil in my route (and erase a bunch). I don't understand what good it would be to see the solution to the maze? It's not like you'll learn anything from seeing the solution. Keep trying until you figure out the solution yourself

when i first saw this i thought it was a thread about corn

Ya, that's why most good ones have towers or high points integrated into them. So you can see the general idea of where you should be going. Mazes where you absolutely can't see the layout at all can get annoying, as a lot of luck comes into play.

Haha, no way I'm adding solutions. As EscPlan9 mentioned, there really is no point :D here is another one:
![[image loading]](http://evansheline.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Einstein-Maze.jpg)

There are no dead ends in this maze. Just go around in circles.

I remember having a lot of fun going to hedge mazes as a kid.
The biggest one I went to that I can remember is the Wandiligong Maze near Bright: + Show Spoiler +
Can see it here on Google maps. This one was a lot of fun because you couldn't cheat like some of the smaller ones. The hedges were huge. It did have 2 towers in the center (you can see them in the photo) that let you see the whole layout of the maze. Getting to the center was a big enough challenge for a little kid though =]
The one I went to in Canberra looks like it doesn't exist any more according to Google Maps which is a little bit sad.
I couldn't even find any pictures of it =[

Holy shit you guys like mazes? I FUCKING LOVE MAZES.
I have a maze blog: http://mazeblog-tjg92.blogspot.com/
And a DeviantArt page with lots of hand drawn mazes: http://tjg92.deviantart.com/
I've been drawing mazes since I was really young, some of the ones on the DeviantArt page were drawn when I was 11 or so lol. You can see how I've improved.
|
Even looking at the mazes above and thinking about solving it gives me a headache
|
This thread is absolutely a-MAZE-ing.
It had to be said. But no, really, I had no idea mazes were such a keen interest for some people. Some of these mazes look so damn difficult, too! Entire circuitboards in my brain just shut down as soon as I look at them. And tjg92, wow. The fact that you drew those mazes by hand is just awesome. I want to commission you to do and entire wall of my house like that. Seriously how badass would that be?
As for IRL mazes, my wife and I go to this one every Halloween:
http://www.washingtonfarms.net/seasons/corn/index.htm
but I couldn't find an actual picture of it. It's pretty fun. I usually drink a little before hand, keep my right hand on the wall, and enjoy my stroll. Good times all around.
|
Wow. I just remembered all the holiday-themed mazes I did back in elementary school. Thanks for sharing that one.

If you want a game to play which centers around mazes check out Yume Nikki (warning this is a horror game, and can be a bit disturbing). Basically it's about exploring a dream world to find objects, but the dream world is so vast and has so many levels and so many different styles its like the greatest maze ever :3
Here is an example of one of the most explicitly maze-like levels: http://images.wikia.com/yumenikki/images/8/8e/Hell-maze-map.png

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you complete any maze by just picking a wall and hugging it?

On March 24 2011 16:54 HawaiianPig wrote: Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you complete any maze by just picking a wall and hugging it? Nope. There are a few design techniques you can use to stop that. For example, if the exit is in the center of the maze somewhere you can have the walls surrounding it not touch the walls that come from the entrance, causing people that try that method to wander around forever. Personally, though, I always just follow my instincts when I'm solving mazes and it works better for me than picking a wall to follow (and it's more fun).
|
![[image loading]](http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/5638/circularmaze.png) Took me 2 minutes to draw this.
Less than 1 minute to solve it however . Took me about 10 seconds.

I used to love doing paper mazes, but now they just strain my eyes and annoy me. I've been to a large number of hedge and corn mazes though and love em. The biggest in the world in england was great, took about 2 hours to solve, and then I decided to just wander it a bit more to find other places in it.
To make a good hedge maze it has to have 3D elements to it, otherwise you can use a simple left hand rule and solve it.
edit: it was the largest when I was there years and years ago, probably a bigger one now, I'll track down the name of it.
edit2: I'm fairly certain it's the one in the OP's picture, I remember the tower overlooking the spiral, and the way those bridges are constructed.

I'm not sure this is the same one, but a similar one was posted on reddit a while back, and in the thread I learned the "MSPaint trick" which works on any image where the maze walls are just one color and the maze is simply connected (no loops).

Just a very quick maze I drew (ran out of room ). I've always loved to draw mazes, and would usually decorate my test papers with them if I finished early :p
Some really cool ones in here!
edit: lol it's so easy xD
Also, I used to draw mazes like the one in the OP, with curves- but I decided that straight lines were cooler :p
edit2: alright, gonna spend tonight making a decent one!!

I live in Iowa, but for whatever reason, have never been to a corn maze except once when I was like 6. Needless to say, all I did was go on a hayrack ride. I am disappoint.
EDIT: Done some bitchin' mazes in Minecraft though. Glass mazes are hard, and one-way doors are just rude. No left-hand rule.

Yeah, I just think that a wall-sized maze pattern would look sweet, especially if as a bonus it were solvable and not just a neat pattern. You'd have to figure out a way to make the lines all nice and uniform, though. I imagine it would a true pain in the ass to actually execute.

I live in Iowa as well!! You really should do a corn maze! I'm pretty sure you can't be considered an official Iowan until you've done a corn maze lol. Around the Des Moines area the outlying suburbs have quite a few.

Crazy stuff! I wrote one of my A-Level tests today and just wanted to clear my mind with some stuff so I printed out this maze, and somehow got it on the first try (it had some rather clear passages, it mysteriously worked without a mistake) - and then this picture appeared! Very nice one

Wow, that is intense. We had to do these in one of my classes, one of the students claimed to have a 150 IQ and was a pro at these... He said he didn't have any more experience or interest in mazes than the rest of us but he did them extremely quickly.

I have probably have almost 100 mazes in a notebook that I drew during classes all through high school. What a delightful time waster for useless classes =D Best thing I ever did was use dark pen and graph paper. haha oh man. I think I even made photocopies in order to let people try them out so they wouldn't screw up an original.

When I was in middle school and elementary school I used to draw alot of mazes and put "mobs/monsters" at random places. So if you ever crossed a monster you'd have to fight it RPG-style(Final fantasy/Pokémon). Then you'd have to fight a boss after each maze, which I counted as a stage, + I made a shop inside each maze where my friends could buy items to upgrade their stuff, it was soooooooo fun.
Nostalgia feeling FTW.

Personally I don't really find an IQ of 150 to be all that impressive. In fact anyone who claims to have an IQ over 132-136 doesn't understand how IQ tests work. After your about 132-136 any higher that is mostly going to depend on your mood and the test. Once you hit that mark you could test anywhere from 132-190 depending on the variables mentioned.
As for that dude who had a high IQ it makes sense really. I find many people I know including myself solve 'difficult' mazes very quickly. All you need to do is blast through every possible route favoring those which seem most probable. The only real skill you need is the ability to go through the possible routes very fast. Not that difficult. Also you I find I need to be able to have the entire maze in my field of view or I can't do anything I'm just insta-stumped.

Personally I never take people seriously who feel the need to declare their IQ scores, first off I rarely believe them, but more to the point it's been my experience that anyone who needs to tell people about how high their IQ is is making up for the fact that their 'high IQ' has not garnered them any real achievements, in fact they often follow it up by explaining that their poor grades etc... are because they are too lazy. (but they make sure to let you know that it was a choice)
