Although I can't complain. I just heard about a friend who is having -40 degree weather (the point where it doesn't matter if it's Fahrenheit or Celsius). His school's administration has warned everybody that standing outside for longer than five minutes will result in frostbite, but they still won't cancel classes.

just walked 1.5 hrs in blinding, razor sharp wind that literally scratched up my face and glasses rofl. also knee deep half the way, i looked like some drunken idiot stumbling my way home. i seriously felt like i worked out walking through that snow, almost waist deep at some points. nothing plowed at all. ended up finishing the walk in the middle of the road cuz it was the only area with non-quicksand height snow

I can't remember the last time it was this bad, usually we get some sleet and snow but it dries up almost immediately. This is ice gonna last for at least 2 days. Texas is going crazy, nobody knows how to drive in this weather.

Here in DFW, Texas. We have 1 sand truck and maybe 2 more for the Super Bowl. Needless to say, every road here has about 1 inch of ice on it and its not going anywhere. And its the hockey rink style of ice, not that powder. Make matters worse, you cannot walk anywhere in North Texas because everything is so spread out, there are no subways, no bus routes going or anything. The Super Bowl people are pretty pissed that noone is showing up to their parties.

Though luckily only ice-storms and rain this time, instead areas in the Midwest and New England are getting most out of the huge storm system. Most active part of winter is during January and February so its not surprising, we only had about 8 storms this time of year. Only a few of them were anything significant. Last winter we had about 4-5+ nor'easters, pretty nifty. edit: I reside in NYC, its not as bad here. Temperatures are fairly mild, we dont get much single or negative readings.

In all seriousness the UK would literally come to a chilly end if we got that much snow now, we used to get it when I was very very young (20 years ago) but now we get like 1cm of snow and the whole country freaks out... schools close even just with the threat of snow where I live..... its so lame how badly we deal with snow these days. But I guess everyone South of the border just isn't used to snow. At home, a foot or a foot and a half of snow and -50 windchill is a lot of snow and cold, but it won't shut down the society. =P Schools will stay open, busses just won't run.
