And while I agree N.Korea is one of the most fucked up places out there.. " Sure, the USA (and China and Japan for that matter) has done a lot of nasty stuff in the name of justice," Are you fucking serious? In the name of justice? They're not Batman or some shit. They're self interested states who have engaged in atrocities. You can argue a lot of states are worse, and I'll agree, but please understand that your moral high ground is not quite as high as you might think.

I still can't believe the first time I heard of the NK artillery is on a Starcraft forum... when I'm in the USAF with Seoul like a hour away from me.

You need realistic background for these kind of exercises at is it very likely that if war occurs, they will battle there. Not very likely to fight NK in the shores of Phillipines. It's not exactly paintball sessions they do there. source The North Korean fire came as the South's military conducted routine drills in waters off the island, which is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the North. South Korea's annual Hoguk military exercises were to last nine days and include as many as 70,000 South Korean military personnel, according to the Stratfor global intelligence company. "Our navy was conducting a maritime exercise near the western sea border today. North Korea has sent a letter of protest over the drill. We're examining a possible link between the protest and the artillery attack," presidential spokeswoman Kim said, according to Yonhap. "Marines were training in that area, including firing artillery, in the morning. But they were aiming south and southwest, not east or north," said a representative for the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff. "North Korea sent a telephone message at 8:20 a.m. to cease the drill. We did not stop the drill." They were 10 km away from borders, with 70000 people. They were asked to leave, but they did not. I understand that they have to conduct excersises on places where fights could occur, but is this not a little bit extreme?

I have friends there. 13B/Field Artillery US Army. Being a 155mm Cannon crew member myself, I can tell you that those people in the videos are VERY lucky, if still alive. The shrapnel alone from those 155mm rounds have around a 100m kill radius. Just wow.

At least in Sweden the army's famous for no one kn owing anything at any time and when someone does know it takes 24 years before the information gets anywhere. Maybe the same in the US. It's odd in any case.

As long as there won't be a serious war (which might put the players in risk) they'll stay there. This sounds dangerously close to justifying a first-strike bombing because South Korea was doing a military drill on their own land.

It really is quite ironic, considering the other predictions that came true. - Stalin's exact date of death - Chernobyl - Obama, a black president as no 44. (Quote: "20+ years ago Baba Vanga supposedly predicted that the 44th US president would be black and would be the last US president, because America will freeze up and spectacular economic crisis") - 9/11 (Vanga,1989: "....The American brethren will fall after being attacked by the steel birds. The wolves will be howling in a bush....") - Kursk Submarine incident 2001

It seems bit extreme, but it's the Island that is about 10 kilometers from the north (see Google Maps, very strange border), and the border, especially the sea border, is not accepted by both parties as far as I know, so it is a contested area. I can understand the purpose of showing presence there by SK, although it obviously doesn't cool down the situation.

We should vote for TL as the #1 News site. Sucks for S.K. Hopefully this doesn't go further I doubt it will. As for the state of mind that they NEED to do something? It probably won't happen, U.N. Security council is going into emergency session today at some time. -8:30am EST(US Time)
