If I got an angry, violent, armed neighbour, i wont be runing with a gun around his yard... Because it has been an unstable zone since the Korean War. Really unstable zone, they are officially at war (but there's a cease fire). For all South Korea know North Korea could attack them at any moment, both sides are on alert at all times.

I don't claim to be an expert on N. Korea, but recently I saw a National Geographic documentary on Netflix about a reporter embedded with an eye doctor during a trip to N. Korea to attempt to help a few thousand citizens. I am honestly terrified of N. Korea. Their ideology is very scary, as it is almost...cultish. This incident (and the other one a couple of weeks ago) could be very serious. I'm also a bit curious as to what the US will do in response, as US forces are posted alongside S. Korean forces at the DMZ between N. and S. Korea. (I also bet the CIA is going apeshit right now.)

You need realistic background for these kind of exercises at is it very likely that if war occurs, they will battle there. Not very likely to fight NK in the shores of Phillipines. It's not exactly paintball sessions they do there.

Any other US war will mean instant death for the current government.

I generally assume that politicans (on both sides of any given situation) are talking out of their ass and lying through their teeth. The public never gets the full story about anything military related for good reasons, too. As for the joke attempt, I can't blame him too much. Regardless of the joke quality, some people deal with crisis via humor (not saying that particular poster was). Takes their mind off the danger. Whether the joke/entertainment is good or bad, if people are distracted from the grim reality for awhile it can help morale. I think (memory sketchy, not sure) during WWII the US had professional Baseball leagues continue. Gave the population some entertainment. Something to watch/talk about other than how much their friends, family, and loved ones are giving up/losing due to the war. Humor is just one of the base reactions that some humans have to tense situations. If it helps some people feel less stressed, is it really all that bad if someone makes a few corny jokes?

Honestly, I think nothing could be easier than drumming up popular support for probably one of the most reasonably justified potential wars on earth. It wouldn't be Iraq or Afghanistan, it would be more 'Europe First'. ie. An objectively evil country trying to destroy an ally that the US has sacrified thousands of soldiers for in the past, and naturally US soldiers stationed in South Korea won't just be standing around if full scale hostilities are initiated.

There is a severe difference between joking for coping with a stress situation and making distasteful jokes from at least 1000 km's away about people dying and the possibility of a war. One is justified, the other isn't. For a reason.
